Our afternoon @ the Dunes
Yesterday was the LAST DAY THE COURSE EXISTED !!!
It will be closed permanently and that was told us by the man @ the proshop.
Last day and so: everything was bad.......
Maybe you should call them or make contact because it is still offered on your website!
Best regards
Gerdo
Still my favorite !!!
The Dunes is a lot like Bardmoor in St Petersburg ... a great old golf course that needs a lot of work ... however ... I did say a GREAT OLD GOLF COURSE .. GREAT is GREAT no matter how much maintenance is required .. if it wasn"t GREAT nobody would care but it is GREAT .. World Woods is the Gold Standard and The Dunes the Silver Standard .. get it ? ... you play World Woods for $50 and The Dunes for $16 .. both sensational courses but The Dunes is not as well maintained .. but The Dunes is still a better value for my money .. GO and then write me back .. The Dunes is great , cheap and a former SUPERSTAR .. anyone who "bad mouths" this golf course needs to keep playing Chi Chi Rodriguez .. best under $20 golf course in Florida ... my budget says "WONDERFUL" !!!!
Great layout
The course layout was great but the conditions were terrible. The course hasn't had any maintainace
for a long time. I would not recommend this course
to anyone.
Great Layout
Played this course maybe 10 years ago, the condition of the fairways and greens indicate they are lacking the funds to keep it up. Layout is great all that is needed is for an investor to purchase it..
It was only 3 groups of golfers that we saw and that was when we finished the 1st 9 holes, so course is wide open.
Again this is the reason there should be a Florida rate only so that the courses continue to have funding year round.
Unplayable
I've never done a a golf course review before, but I feel compel to let you know that this course is in such poor conditions, it is not worth the time, not to mention the green fee. i've played this course when conditions were better, and is a very challenging and fun to play, It is very unfortunate that management has let it get this bad.
Disappointed. Getting bad again
Played a month or so ago and the greens were nice on the front but the back had three greens that were tore up. Now the whole back nine greens are eaten up. The fairways are always rough but playing Lift, clean, place you can manage. The tee boxes are getting worse as well. I was second group off at 8 am and I only saw one maintenance worker which means they don't appear to be doing anything to fix the problem. I only paid $28 but I'd rather pay $40 and play World Woods as there summer rates are getting lower. It pains me to write this review because I've been playing this course since 89 and I love the layout and serenity. I must ask: SERENITY NOW, SERENITY NOW!!
courteous ground crew
Grounds crew was very courteous. Shut down equipment when ever anyone was near.
Excellent layout, poor condition.
This course has great potential but is suffering from serious neglect. The greens were in especially poor condition. I love the course but if the condition continues to deteriorate it will become unplayable. Needs an infusion of money and attention. Wish it weren't so.
condition has deteriated
Recent outbreak of "dollar spots" on greens coupled with poor fairways make this course enjoyable at this time. Layout and beauty of course remain excellent.
A Wee Bit More of the Green!
Have played The Dunes many times (+25) over my 25 years here in the Tampa Bay area. It is one of my favorite course layouts, only a few homes on the property and you never see other players while your on your own hole. Rates have always been reasonable -especially in the winter- and the staff is great. Because of the financial pressures of the past few years their upkeep on the fairways has sufferred and that is the only bad thing.
Good value overall.
The course is back in decent shape. Range is nice, greens are good and tee boxes are good. The fairways are pretty rough and a few greens on the back are ate up. Overall, it is worth the money and the drive.
get what you pay for
The greens rolled out best in the area. Not shag carpet like courses in the area. Fairways were not over seeded and extremely thin plus rough riding. Course layout was good. Good choice this time of year every couple years. Fairways may be decent later in April?
Challenging layout
Great course layout, very challenging
Grass in fairways not very good this time
Of year. Greens were in good condition
And just Sadistic to Putt on, the most
Elavatuon change on the greens that I have
Played in this area I reaaly enjoy this course And will have to play it again.
do not play
no grass on fairways hard aS a rock very buggey got eaten up the people that work there in the club house are very unpleasant and rude would not play again
Where is the grass?
The golf course has an excellent layout with many difficult and interesting holes. However there is hardly any grass on the fairways. For most of your shots from the fairways you need to move your ball to find something green to hit from, and if or the most part it is a weed. Watering only seems to happen on the greens and a two foot apron around the greens.
It would be a great course with the fairways in even in average condition.
Bring a mat or a roll of sod and you will enjoy your game.
Dunes
Excellent layout. Great views of hole from T Box. Condition of grass on greens and fairways poor. Large greens with very good approach shot challenges. Sand everywhere......
A wonderful layout
Management told me about their ongoing rehabilitation of this course and said the fairways were still a bit thin but the greens were nice. I must say, I didn't find any problems with the fairways, most of the time I had a good lie. The layout was really incredible and it's what will make me come back, along with the value. I look forward to see how this course will look in the spring and summer as the grass greens up and thickens. I see a ton of potential here and I highly recommend it. There were multiple sets of tees. The tee box I played from had a sign that said it was recommended only for players with a 6-10 handicap, which made most people move up one tee box, which I thought was a good idea. The only complaint I have is the pace of play. I was in a twosome, it took 4 1/2 hours because there was at least one group of 5 ahead of us and we were told by the marshal that the group ahead of them was playing slow and had been told to speed up. They never sped up. Hopefully, next time we won't get stuck behind slow groups or groups of 5. But I will definitely be back!
Long ball Jim
This is a GREAT Course
Evertbody must play it.....
Nice Layout, still needs work
This is a course under new management. It was closed for a time which always takes a couple seasons to recover from. Fairways are sparse but the Winter has been cold so have to wait and see. The greens are quick and quite smooth. A few of the greens need some partial work but are playable. Overall the course is such a nice layout that it is unfortunate to not be closer to population centers where it would get more play.
Sal
Nice layout good routing , but no grass. Greens are speedy with a lot of slope. Waste areas on almost every hole, can be very challenging. Overall well worth the ride.
I beg to differ - I played Bardmoor recently and it is marvelous. Dunes has No Fairways, No greens, and no tee boxes with a splendid layout miles from nowhere. This used to be great and is now less than poor.
