Bear's is Best
One of my favorite courses in the Atlanta area did not fail to please again. We ended up "cart path only" due to heavy rain the previous evening. The fairways were spongy but the lies were still excellent. Greens were rolling nicely.
utterly disappointing!
We were very much looking forward to Bears best. It was recommended to us. We were told what an awesome course it was. Unfortunately, the condition of the course was fair and best. The driving range was a complete sandpit, and the greens were only moderately true. However, the staff was very friendly and you could see that 30 to 60 days from now, with appropriate maintenance, the course could be beautiful. Would not play again. We played four courses during our trip to the masters, and this was by far the bottom of the list.
Bears Best Disappointed
We paid $150 to play on the weekend and considering the course, $60 to $75 would have been a fair price range. There was nothing about the design of the course that stood out and the playing conditions were closer to a municipal course than a premium venue. We played 6 courses in the area and this was at the bottom of the list. The staff and pace of play was good but we will never return.
Hello, duffer917. Thank you for leaving us a review. We are sorry to hear your experience was anything short of 5 stars, but we hope you will give us another try in the future. Thank you for choosing Bear's Best Atlanta.
Not Worth The Money
Staff was outstanding, food was very good. Layout was very good. Green speeds were inconsistent. Very little grass around the greens - LOTS of bare, hard-packed sand lies you just grabbed putter for instead of playing the shot you normally would around the green. Definitely not worth the $104 price tag in my opinion.
Hello, Keith1756235. Thank you for leaving us a review. We are sorry to hear your experience was anything short of 5 stars, but we hope you will give us another try in the future. Thank you for choosing Bear's Best Atlanta.
Starter was rude
We played yesterday and the starter was the rudest starter I’ve ever come across. We had the first tee time of the day. We were told a single would be playing w our 2, which was fine. I picked up my buddy and we went to home 1 and waited for the 3rd guy. The starter came down and said we were suppose to check in with him and asked if we had “ever played golf before” and told us it was better to “ask for permission than forgiveness”. This was all because we drove the cart to hole 1 without his approval. We had no idea we were doing anything “wrong”! Apparently the starter doesn’t sit at hole 1 and gets irritated if you don’t track him down I guess.
I will never play this course again - the starter ruined the entire outing.
We appreciate your feedback and are disappointed in the experience that you encountered at Bear's Best. A great day of golfing should not be ruined by a poor experience like this. Feedback is a valuable training opportunity for us to improve our team and ensure that situations like this don't happen again. Please reach out to us at Bear's Best so that we can work to resolve this situation for you. I am sorry that this happened and look forward to speaking with you soon.
Don’t read old reviews
Don’t read old reviews. This place has gone downhill, yet continues to charge greens fees (and range ball purchases and $4 soda prices) as though it’s maintained as before. They place range stations where grass hasn’t grown back from previous sessions. Only one of two practice greens has targets. Carts are nice. Seats are cushy; a cooler has ice waiting for you; sand bottles are full; the ball and club washer have water (although my ball washer consistently missed part of each ball as though bristles needed replacing); and the GPS tells you a number of distances. The starter had me, a single, go one tee time early (interrupting my warm-up), because my group had an extra cart of non-playing parents and he said Bear’s Best doesn’t want three carts in a group. Upon reaching the first tee box two minutes early, I learned the starter let a twosome go ahead of us moments beforehand, causing our first shots to be delayed until the next tee time. The course drains poorly. There was .24 inches of rain the day before, and none for the four days before that. Yet the course required cart path only (which the pro shop did not inform me of upon check-in). Also, more than once, I saw a sprinkler going. The ranger didn’t mind, though, as he parked his cart on the grass while searching for balls in the woods and not picking up the trash he came across. Cart paths had a number of places where tree roots apparently have an upheaval and breaking of the concrete. But there isn’t a warning about bad places, as witnessed by my GPS telling me after running over a big hidden bump, “Bump in cart path.” Bear’s Best doesn’t provide pin placements. I called the clubhouse from the first fairway and they said so. There is just one water station on the course, which you pass two times. The beverage cart came to us only two times. The employee asked for a tip by inquiring how much change I wanted. The biggest disappointment with Bear’s Best is the quality of the greens. This track used to have the best greens of any course open to the public in the Atlanta area. Now, they are on par with the course I usually play, which has greens fees almost half the price.
Fun layout
Great course and in good shape for winter months. Starter was very friendly and lunch was very good . Will be back
Good Course but used to be better.
I don’t know how a golf course could have financial issues these days. You can’t get a tee time, there is so much player interest. They used to overseed this course with winter rye. It was amazing - green fairways in January. Also, the greens were always fast and true. They needed to be rolled. They used to have cart guys meeting you in the parking lot, to take your bags. Nope. Maybe it’s just February, but seems like they have slipped.
We appreciate your feedback and apologize for any inconvenience you experienced. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on our golf course.
Bad Day
Had a 1:30pm tee time Sunday afternoon. Paid $85, not informed that they were an hour behind due to a frost delay. Half the range was closed and the Emory golf team was practicing. No grass left on the range. Just seemed as if no one was running the show and no offer of a price reduction, even though we started at twilight. Just not a great experience and the course is not what it used to be, $85 seemed like a good price, but the experience was poor.
We apologize for the inconvenience experienced during your recent visit to our golf course. Thank you for sharing your feedback with us.
Strategic golf course
Although the course length was not very long, it was composed of holes that had to be approached very strategically.
It was a very fun course, and the course condition was good.
I think the green speed should have been a little faster. It was the Bears' best, but the green speed was a bit slower than other stadiums.
Thank you for your feedback. We appreciate your comments and will take them into consideration to improve our course for future visitors.
Good Winter Goof Conditions
Saw a hot deal and had to grab it to play Bears Best. Course is in good condition for winter golf. While grass is dormant overall it made for a great round. Greens are in good condition and running at a good speed, bunkers are full of sand and well taken care of, tee boxes while dormant still have some grass. They had fertilizer in all the right places and you can see they have put in some good work so that it will be in great condition for the Spring. Overall, course is in very nice winter condition and well worth a hot deal. I would fully expect it to be in tip top shape in a month or so when grass blooms!
Thank you for sharing your detailed review of our course. We appreciate your feedback and are glad to hear that you enjoyed your round. We look forward to providing you with an even better experience in the upcoming months as the course transitions into spring.
Bear’s Best is in great condition. Nice pace of play too!
Bear’s Best is in great condition. Nice pace of play too. Greens & fairways were very nice. Excellent food in the restaurant after our round.
Bears Best for sure
Great course, and was paired with another father and son who were amazing representatives of Bear's Best members. We will be coming back!
Fall Golf
The course was pretty open and we were allowed to tee off earlier than scheduled. The starter was friendly and easy going. The weather was beautiful and with the pace of play, my playing partner and I were able to get 36 holes in before darkness in November. The course looked like a lot of maintenance was being put in before winter and they take hold in Spring. Overall, a great day of golf.
Fantasic Fall Round!
The course and greens were perfect. I was so pleased with the layout and setup that we cant wait to return. Staff was super nice too!
We're sorry to hear the course didn't meet your expectations, but we appreciate your feedback and are actively working on improvements. Thank you for recognizing our friendly staff and the potential of our course.
