I believe they are permanently closed. It is ridiculous that underpar is still selling 2 for 1 vouchers for this course.

Good and Bad

I’ve played this course several times before. The cost was $99 which included a $10 food credit. And, BTW, the food was excellent! So here’s the good and the bad about the golf course.

THE GOOD: Great layout, fairways and greens were over-seeded and in very good condition. The greens were VERY fast and true. Bunkers were a little hard-packed, but doable.

THE BAD: We played on a Monday and the driving. Range was “closed for maintenance”. We weren’t told that, nor was there any kk d of discount as a result. The roughs, which are not over-seeded, we’re dry and packed down Bermuda grass; almost like hitting off hard-pan.

All-in-all, a nice course but a bit overpriced at $99.

DO NOT Play out of the sand traps

The owner of this course is killing a nice golf course due to the lack of maintenance on the sand traps. I have never played a course that has so many big rocks in the sand traps - ever. This has been like this for years and I bring it up every time I play here. I refuse to play out of the traps in order to protect my clubs and record a penalty stroke instead. I play here a lot as my friends live in the community but it is now getting to be beyond ridiculous. Heavy sand with club damaging rocks in them - BAD!!! I would recommend the course as it is a nice challenge but DO NOT hit out of the traps!

Hidden Gem

The Golf Club at La Quinta has always been a "go to course, so put it on your list and play it." The course is in great shape and the landscaping surrounding the entire course is being re-done - but it's all on the sides and does not impact play at all. The cleaner look is great and I can't wait until it's completed. The course plays very well and offers many challenges and opportunities. The staff is very friendly and Bistro 60 is great food regardless if you are playing or not - if fact it's a great locals restaurant.

Golf Club at La Quinta

Played the Blues (6495/70.9/124) in 3H in temps close to 120. Last round in the desert before heading back to somewhat cooler weather.

This layout meanders through homes and would be nearly impossible to walk in the heat as several tees are hundreds of yards from the last green. Good option for players of all skill levels, not overly tight and many holes do not require forced carries.

Solid course, but hard for me to comprehend that they hosted a couple of PGA Tour "Skins Games" a decade ago. Mostly flat with a few elevation changes, most holes are ringed by 2' tall bushes that are an almost certain lost ball.

Most of the Bermuda tees were maintained long and were lush. Some others were really beat up.

The Bermuda fairways were mowed high, which made the course play longer. Semi lush with good coverage throughout.

The mostly Bermuda rough looked benign at first glance. But it was tough to play out of, it constantly grabbed your club.

The sand traps were decently maintained with medium grain, darker sand that was mostly good to play from.

The Bermuda greens were very nice. Firm, medium fast and very smooth. No huge tiers or wildly breaking putts on any greens on this course.

Excellent customer service from all encountered. GC @ LQ closes @ 5pm. IMO, their normal rate is a little high, but still recommended if you can get a deal.

Played the Blues (6495/70.9/124) with Mendel on an Underpar voucher that included lunch/replay. We averaged a little over 3 1/2 H per round in clear, breezy conditions around 118.

Most of the Bermuda tees were lush. However, a few were chewed up with unfixed divots and they were maintained too high for my taste.

The Bermuda fairways were semi lush and had good coverage but mowed high. Few unfixed divots, but they made the course play long because you did not get alot of run out.

The mostly Bermuda rough was tough to play out of. Constantly grabbed your club. Main challenge is that it is a mixture of multiple grasses, especially crab grass.

The sand was medium grain, darker sand that was decently maintained. The fairway bunkers were firm and generally good to play from, although the lips are often severe if you are too close to the front. The greenside traps were a little too thin & hard packed for my taste.

The Bermuda greens were the star of the course. Firm and putted medium fast, smooth for Bermuda. They did not hold shots well, which needed to be taken into account on how far you carried full irons or pitch shots onto the green. No huge tiers or wildly breaking putts on any greens on this course.

Excellent customer service from all encountered. The lunch was excellent, highly recommend the restaurant. 18 solid but unspectacular holes of golf. Mostly flat with a few elevation changes, most holes are ringed by 2' tall bushes that are an almost certain lost ball. The course meanders through homes and would be a beast to walk, as several tees are hundreds of yards from the last green.

A negative is that the course closes at 5pm. They tell you upfront that carts must be returned by 5, which cuts down opportunities to play extra on an all you can play voucher. Good option for players of all skill levels, not overly tight and many holes do not require forced carries. Recommended, especially if you can get a deal.

Played the Blacks (6860/72.8/128) with Mike in 3 1/2 H in clear, WINDY conditions in the low 100's. Solid course, not great, but really good. Good option for players of all skill levels, not overly tight and many holes do not require forced carries. Overall, the conditions were good and the course was playing firm. The Bermuda tees were nice, lush and well maintained. Very few unfixed divots even on par 3's. The Bermuda fairways were usually nice to play from. Semi lush with had good coverage and few unfixed divots. The rough was mowed down on the entire course. Not overly penal, the main challenge is that it is a mixture of grasses, especially crab grass. Usually nice to chip from. The sand was medium grain, darker sand that was decently maintained. The greenside traps were mediocre, thin, hard packed with too many small rocks. The fairway bunkers were firm and generally good to play from, although the lips are often severe if you are too close to the front. The Bermuda greens were firm and putted medium fast. Smooth but they did not hold shots well. Really tough, especially in high winds. No huge tiers or wildly breaking putts on any greens on this course. Excellent customer service from all encountered. A negative is that the course closes at 5 pm, which limits twilight play. Recommended.

All in good shape, except the greens...

A buddy and I went out for memorial day weekend. We were initially impressed by the service and practice facility. When on the practice green I noticed the grass was not right and looked like it had some fungus or something overtaking the grass...

On the first Green I noticed the same fungus / lack of grass. The putting surface looked good until you were actually on it. The ball didn't check all day as these green conditions were the same on each hole. For a low handicap player who traveled to play, I was disappointed on the greens. Fairways and the rest of the course were great. The facility should notify players of this condition before the come out until it is fixed.

Solid Track

First thing I have to say about this place. Why golf carts must be back in by 5:00pm when you still have 2 hours of daylight is beyond me. Keep this in mind if you're playing in the afternoon or have a Underpar unlimited play voucher. Makes the voucher less of a value. With that said, have to say that the previous review was pretty much spot on. No "wow" factor hole here, just 18 holes of solid golf. The course is well maintained from tee to green. The putting surfaces looked like those of Chambers Bay, but think they rolled better. This is not the most difficult track you'll ever play. Water does come into play on several holes, but most plays were straight away shots with few real dog legs or elevation changes. The composition of the bunkers seemed a little more like good top soil than sand, and not too difficult to hit out of. The one exception was pin placement. On many holes, they were on the most difficult part of the putting surface. I had a Underpar voucher as well, so this was a great deal with the complimentary lunch, unlimited play, and bounce back voucher, although as I said, not quite the deal being carts have to be in by 5:00pm. The lunch food was good and appreciated that we only waited a couple minutes for sandwiches, fries, and drinks, so we could get back out and enjoy the course. All in all a fun track and would play again.

Golf Club @ La Quinta

Played the Blues (6495/70.9/124) in slightly over 4 hours with 140ver, Ruth & Steven. We used an Underpar voucher that included lunch/replay. The weather was clear, calm and in the mid 80's. After lunch, we replayed the Blacks (6860/72.8/128) with the same 4some in slightly less than 4H.

While it doesn't have the name or the difficulty associated with of some of it's PGA West neighbors, this is a nice course that has hosted the "Skins Game" numerous times. I liked the layout, no "wow" factor holes, just 18 solid holes of golf. Mostly flat with a few elevation changes, most holes are ringed by 2' tall bushes that are an almost certain lost ball. The course meanders through what for the area is probably middle class homes (in other words nice, but not mansions) and would be a beast to walk, as several tees are hundreds of yards from the last green.

The poa annua tees were nice, lush and very well maintained. Very few unfixed divots even on par 3's.

The mostly poa annua fairways were lush and had very good coverage. Few unfixed divots. Nice to play off of.

The rough was shaved down close almost the entire course. It appeared to be a mixture of multiple grasses. Not penal at all and very nice to chip from, it offered the options of low, medium or high shots on most chip/pitch shots.

The sand played better than it looked. Medium grain, darker sand that was moist. Only negative was that there were many smaller rocks in both the greenside and fairway bunkers.

We were dismayed to see them punching the greens ahead of us. However, they were small tines with no sanding, and they actually putted decently once we got to the greens they had performed maintenance on. I would suspect that in less than a week they will be back to normal, because the greens they had done the prior day were already putting above average.

The greens looked like overseeded Bermuda where the Bermuda was becoming prominent again. Medium speed and much smoother than one would expect considering they were punching them an hour before we played them. They held irons well and were softer than they initially appeared. No huge tiers or wildly breaking putts on any greens on this course.

The customer service was excellent from everyone encountered. It starts with attendants taking care of your clubs when you arrive until attendants take care of you when you leave. Marshall out patrolling, ensuring that POP was good. They tell you upfront that they expect a 4 hour round. The lack of rough makes that a reality here. The lunch (excellent!) & drinks included with the voucher was a good value, as were the complimentary range balls and waters provided on the cart. We ordered lunch between rounds and they delivered it to us on the course, which was a very nice touch.

The only negative in my mind was that the course actually closed down at 5pm? We were told we had to have the cart in before 5pm. When we finished 36 around 4:15, we could have gotten another 18 in? So beware if you are purchasing an AD voucher!

A really solid course, not great, but really good. Considering it had hosted "Skins Games", I expected it to be tougher. Good option for players of all skill levels, not overly tight and many holes do not require forced carries. Definitely recommended, especially if you can get a deal.

Enjoyable

Played here a while ago and enjoyed it. From the clubhouse to the driving range and beyond.

The course was quiet, in good shape and it was a relaxing day.

I found that I was excited to see what the next hole brought and it was challenging even for a low handicapper.

I would play this course again and would recommend it.

Was Surprised

Considering that it is mid-July I was very surprised at the condition of the course. This course is probably in the best shape in comparison to most of the course in the Palm Springs area. Went out as a single and was able to play 18-holes (with a few extra shots on several holes) and finished in less then 4-hours. Fairways were in great shape considering the time of year. Greens where quick but true. Will be going back the first chance I get. Just do one thing: You (and many of the courses in the Palm Springs area) need to level out your tee boxes.

Good course, good value

This is a good golf course--very user friendly with lots of tee box options. The greens right now are not very good--bumpy and slow--maybe because it's early in the season.

Beautiful conditions!

Only complaint is the course could've been marshaled a bit better. We played during the busiest golfing weekend of the year and it was pretty slow (close to 5 hours) with some VERY high handicappers in front of us playing from back tees that they should not have been allowed to play from.
