The Hills Course at Red Hawk
About
The Resort at Redhawk is known to golf travelers around the globe and is one of the highlights of the grand golf destination that is the High Sierra. Located in the town of Sparks, next door to Reno, the Hills Course is one of two 18-hole runs at Redhawk and draws raves for its challenging play and incredible scenery.
Designed by three-time U.S. Open champion Hale Irwin, the Hills Course offers players a Scottish links-style layout that has small and dastardly greens, dramatic elevation changes, deep bunkering and immaculate views of one of the most scenic golf destinations in the United States.
While the Hills Course is a must play in the Reno area and will challenge long hitters with a 127 slope rating, Irwin added another touch to the resort. A unique, 18-hole putting green will have players competing, all the while improving their putting game, helping to make Redhawk and the Hills Course a standout in the High Sierra.

good conditions for april
Course is always worth the money if you can play for a discount. $75 each rack is too much but $35-40 is about right with this course.
Course was nice but pace was sloooow!
Only one course was open so there may have been some spill over but the course was overbooked, and golfers were backed up. Lots of waiting at Tee boxes...
Sli e of Heaven
I have been trying to golf RedHawk for awhile and finally had an opportunity to. The weather held being it was a cloudy day, the course was in great shape, and the staff was friendly. The scenic views are amazing.
Every time I come to Reno I look forward to golfing at Redhawk.
Got a huge discount through Tee-Off, otherwise never play it. RedHawk is way to proud of there facility and the green fees they normally charge.
Course was in good shape for this early in the season.
Wild up and down ride thru the hills above Reno.
Fun course in good shape. Lots of interesting holes with lightning fast greens. Good amount of elevation change with very windy conditions makes for a good challenge.
Lovely Course
It's wide open and very nicely maintained. Greens were in wonderful shape. Lots of ups and downs and lots of fowl and fowl poop (which I don't mind as I love the birds). Will try the Lakes course sometime!
Good value and conditions-Very slow!
My first time playing Red Hawk. Anything under $100 for weekend play is quite reasonable. The greens were VERY fast, and the rest of the course was in great shape. The only issue we had was the pace was VERY slow. Groups were waiting until well after it was safe to hit to do so which really extended the day.
Food in clubhouse
After playing a round of 18 holes, we went to eat dinner at the grill. It was the worst food I’ve ever eaten in Reno, and definitely the worst I’ve ever had at a golf course. Two of our appetizers were inedible and entrees were mediocre. Such a great golf course and should definitely have better food than that. It was disgusting. Thanks for a great round.
My Favorite Go-To Course in Reno (Hills)
Another great experience playing this course. Course was in great shape, with the exception of a few rough spots on some of the greens. Love the lay-out, with the changes in elevation and view from the upper holes. Only negative/opportunity for improvement is that the carts do not have GPS.
Red Hawk
Have played course since it opened and it’s almost always in very good condition. Pace of play yesterday was as bad as I’ve experienced. Tournaments were scheduled along with regular play and it was over a 5 hour round.
Great course and variety of holes
This was the first time playing the Hills course and I put it miles over the Lake course. Hole variety, tee shot selection, approach distances, and greens difficulty all contribute to an entertaining and memorable round.
Most greens, fairways, and bunkers were in excellent condition, though there were a few greens that looked to have a fungal infection. Hoping the course can get those sorted before they get worse, but the pins were in a spot that kept most of the dead spots out of play anyway.
Pace of play was great, though I mostly attribute that to drizzle/rainy conditions that kept most of the public tee times off for the day. Unfortunately, we happened to play on a day they were doing what seemed to be a club championship, so pin locations were definitely tricky. Course knowledge is helpful here too, and I definitely recommend playing up at least one set of tees for your first time.
At the price and time we got on, this course is a great deal, though I wouldn't necessarily pay more than about $70 for 18 with cart regularly.
Good condition, don’t offer complimentary water.
Course in good condition except for bunkers. Fast greens. Water fountains don’t work and don’t offer complimentary water even with a heat advisory. It was 104 degrees.
Links Feel and Fun
The Hills course at Redhawk is a difficult but fair golf course. Tee shots are fairly straight forward, with the exception of the 10th hole which requires some course knowledge. Greens are fast and if you miss on the wrong side it is a challenging two-putt. Overall a fun course with some quirky and challenging designs. One compalint is; we were finishing 16 and told to return to the clubhouse. There was plenty of light/time for us to finish. Let them play!!!! Haha.
Nice day for golf. No waiting, pace of play was awesome. Staff was great just wish they would lower there prices.
