Great expectations, average experience
After all the hype I’ve heard about how great Black Gold is, I expected a first-class experience. What I got was no better than an average “muni”. Driving range was mats, not grass. Fairways were sometimes brown and always uneven. Greens were average, with many examples of damage from unrepaired ball marks. Green speed was a bit on the slow side.
Many of the fairways were closed to cart traffic. This necessitated carrying multiple clubs from the cart onto the fairway, then walking, sometimes uphill, back to the cart. Not a pleasant experience. Several holes had blind tee shots, something that penalizes first-time golfers.
Pace of play was a little slow, partly due to being grouped with a long hitter who required long waits for fairways and greens to clear.
All in all, I was very disappointed in Black Gold and am not likely to return, especially at their premium prices.
Getting wayyyy too expensive for the course
$120 is way too expensive for this course right now. IE has so many more well kept courses for like half the price. It’s basically my home course but I have to branch out bc in it’s current state (not counting the punched greens), it’s not worth $120 a round.
Diabolical Green Speeds
Green speeds are insanely fast right now. I’ve played this course before and have never played green speeds this fast. Fastest greens I ever played which made the round extremely difficult for an amateur like me. I consider myself a decent putter, Arccos has be putting on average like a 3 HDCP. 20’ putts with 1% slow you would have to hit 10’, it was insane. 3%-4% slopes were rolling back down hills. With such fast speeds, the subtle breaks consistently had playing partners putting the ball past holes by 10+’ and often times just off the green.
Pace was decent 4.2, would play here again cause the fast green speed isn’t the norm.
Entitled Asians
Round was going along fine until we drove up to the par 3 16th tee. We're a group of 4 Asians we're on the tee box who had jumped in front of us. They grinned the round to a halt
I tried to call the pro shop no answer
Well...there are a lot of hills on the course, which might explain the uneven fairways. It does happen from time to time where a course might not allow carts on certain holes. It is a beautiful course. Sounds like a little bit of whining to me.
