Great layout, great value, great staff
We are members of a more expensive course just down the road from King's Deer, the difference in course conditions, staff friendliness, and value are vast, hats off to King's Deer.
Clubhouse staff could not be more friendly or helpful, very impressed.
Course - Bring more balls, links style will penalize errant tee shots. That said, every hole is unique and creatively designed. Great fairway/tee box conditions, nice rough first cut, 3"+ second cut requires accurate ball strike to get out. Tall grasses make up the rest of the course. Plenty of up and down, greens could be better but it is early in the season and they look to be well on their way.
Course full on a Saturday but play was well paced. All in all, excellent golf and excellent value
Had a great round course was in great shape. Very friendly staff.
Tried the course again.
Best to describe is best value anywhere! Pace on a Sunday morning was great.
Great Value Great Shape
Kings Deer doesn’t disappoint always in great shape. Pace is slow
But still usually under 4.5 hrs. It’s a tough track if you MISS fairways and I think many that play the Blues should be on the whites as even though only 6100 yards the Slope is a challenging 121....
Only issues is water in course should get refreshed as many were empty....
All in all another great day at Kings Deer
Course is in fantastic condition
Other than having an extremely slow group in front of us, I’ve got nothing else to say other than that the course is in great shape. Greens rolled true, they held quality golf shots. Played in the afternoon on Sunday. Can’t wait to go back. Happy to see this course in this condition!! Gotta play here!!
Worth playing
The course is good, challenging for a first play without any insider knowledge. Placement is key.
On course services were lacking at best
Tough Winter
I like this track which I have played multiple times. It is interesting and challenging. However, being on the Palmer Divide, it is very much subject to weather, both on a daily and seasonal basis. As of 5/9/2018, it is in abominable condition. Apparently lack of snow cover caused severe die-off on much of the course.
I and my partners debated on whether to play but decided that after an hour drive it was better than nothing. The course did what it could to put pins in locations with green grass. The greens had been punched and not cut so the stimp was ~5 and very bumpy. There was generally enough green in the fairways to allow a decent lie if you rolled it about some.
Takeaway-do not play here until you have talked to someone you trust who has played within a few days.
Perfect Fall Day Before Cold Front
Great day of golf at Kings Deer. Great staff, perfect range and good pace of play. Couple bottle necks as everyone else decided to play hooky for a round of golf.
This course was in great shape, very friendly staff. The main issues were recently aerated greens, but I was told about when I called and made the Tee time. The wind was like 20-25 mph sustained. Monument is a windy place and the course is in a valley. It's an excellent course though and it's a good challenge. Recommend maybe a good idea to play early as the wind picks up later in the day.
Good course, challenging for carries required, not long, nice views
This is a course that keeps popping up on the Golfnow.com hot deals, so we finally got there to try it out. It was challenging, fun, and worth a visit if you can get some carry on your tee shots. It's probably not a 100-150 yard hitter's course. It can be a little difficult to figure out where you want to hit on a few holes. GPS or yardage book is helpful for a newcomer. It's only 6711y (71.3/133) from the golds, 6168y (69.3/121) from the blues, 5596y (66.3/115) from whites, and 5054y (69.1/126) from reds, but it's not the yardage that defends the course, it's the long grass. Pick out good landmarks to find balls off the short grass, even in the short rough. There are no trees here, but wind will affect your play with the open terrain. You really want to hit the short grass. #3 is deservedly the #1 handicap hole, beware. The rolling terrain definitely isn't as apparent as your eye tells you, like on #18, much more uphill than it looks. #17 is a cool hole. The greens speed didn't match the practice green, but you'll figure it out. This will be a better experience if you're on or can accept challenges.
Challenging course
Good shape and wide open. Wind must be considered on every shot. Greens are tough due to undulating.
I'll be back
Impressed with the course, range, staff, condition. Only got 9 holes in, but I'll be back for sure.
Near perfect day
Course was in fantastic shape. Greens would have played perfect but with all of the rain they were pretty soft. Pace of play was good, 18 holes in less than four hours on a Saturday morning was very good. Would have like to see the sand and water buckets filled. Little things but would have been appreciated. Beverage cart came around regularly which was nice. All in all a good round. Challenging course, a lot of risk reward holes and enjoy the longer par 3's. Good job Kings Deer! Play here several times a year , make it a point to
Worth the Drive
We really enjoyed this links style golf course, especially after spending a week playing in the mountains. We played from the blue tees, which for a 10 handicap was just perfect.
Great challenging course
This is a great challenging course.
Fairways in great shape. Greens rolling good.
If you are in the area then definitely book a round here.
Fairways can be a little narrow so precision is key off the tee.
Great find
Great course, very easy to find. Plays very well, from any tee box. My 1st time playing Kings Deer, will gladly add it add my go to. Beautiful course.
geat shape
If you're around a 100 stroker like me this is tough course, bring lots of balls! Course itself is in great shape.
Wow...Lessons Learned
When I read the reviews on Golf Advisor and looked at the course online "After" i booked me Tee Time with Golf Now. I immediately thought, What did I get myself into. I am a beginner and have some fundamentals that need some serious working out i.e Slicing. This is not a forgiving courses. I stand corrected the Front nine is not forgiving. A lot of high vegetation hazards on some holes calling for a perfect shot. Which the gentlemen I was paired with did well. After my pride was taken in the front nine and the fear i may not have enough balls to finish 18 holes went away. The back nine was way more forgiving and even had opportunity for a few birdie putts. The course was gorgeous and groomed to perfection. The Greens played a lot slower than they looked, so don't be afraid to put a little more on it when putting. I was "NOT" a fan that cart didn't have the Club washer on it. My interaction with the staff was short, but professional and good customer service. Would I play here again? Yes, but not anytime soon. i Need some more practice else where..Or ill just play the back nine twice..Hahaha....ResPect
Very good and challenging course.
This course does have great features, rolling hills, great variety of hole designs, greens and fairways are in great shape , both are challenging, not many flat easy shots. Only bad part was not being able to drive cart on the fairway at all, understandable but really adds lots of walking and time consuming. 90 degree rule would be a good compromise.
