Weekday golf outing
The fairways and greens were in great condition, little to no dry spots. The water hazards were in very poor condition. Most of them were dried out/empty. The few that were filled looked like sewage. Not a big deal. Biggest complaint was the amount of blind shots, every other hole was a blind shot with no indication of where the green is. Overall fun round of golf!
Wide open
The course was open and never felt rushed or had to wait. Great value for the price
I'm sorry. Don't bother.
The greens were in super shape. Trying to find the fairway? Perhaps if you find hitting a 5 iron for your drive and again for your approach It's fine. On the back 9 yikes. Front 9 was much better.
Good but not great
The course was good/average overall. I played with
my brother. He thought the length of the holes was
a little short. I did not like the fact that several of the
holes did not have a fairway. The course layout was
good, although we spent some time trying to find the
next hole. I do not like water hazards. Still, I thought
the course could have had more/larger water hazards. The staff was friendly. I would play this
course in the future.
Terrible Course
The staff was friendly and the facility is nice for a small town course. This course itself is far below average. This course felt more like a field than a golf course. The cart path is pot holed gravel while the rough was bare, rocky and felt like we needed an atv to drive through. The fairways often felt like it was a disadvantage to hit into as it often didn't have sufficient grass and felt like hitting off bare dirt. The few bunkers on the course had large rocks scattered throughout or were full of water although it had not rained recently. The course layout was fairly repetitive with 13 dog legs.
The positives: The greens were small but in pretty good shape. They did have water throughout the course which helped on a hot July day. We were able to get some practice in.
Good for the rate
Course is very short even from the tips, but also has small greens and a few doglegs that make it play longer than the yardage.
Challenging course
Course is fairly short with open par 5's. Many holes have hills and dog legs which make up for not being long. Smaller greens. Course was in great shape though
watch for poison ivy!
Not a bad little course. Tight fairways and very nice greens. The big issue is the thick nasty rough areas covered in poison ivy. I lost a ton of balls because I couldnt look for them and risk the ivy.
Overall a good place to play
Overall a nice place to play, Could use another restroom on the back nine. Food is good, prices fair, service was excellent.
Beautiful course
Love this course. Greens are not big landing area so have to play precise shots.
Fun
Front nine kinda short but fun. Back much longer and very challenging.
Nice, fun course
Fairfield is always fun to play. It has some very difficult holes mixed in with some easy and average holes. You can play the course many different ways from almost all the holes (except the par 3's) and have fun or make it much more challenging. I only took my driver out once on the course and scored as well as I would have with it. It's a fun time and the staff is always friendly.
Review
It was in decent condition for early in the year. It is like two different courses. The front 9 has some trees and ponds. The back 9 is similar to a links style. Be prepared to hit to certain locations. Overall a decent place to play.
Fast greens
I love the overall condition of the course. If you like fast greens and a course in Illinois that isn't flat this is the course for you
Love the Front 9
We really enjoy playing the front 9; fun and not overly difficult. Can usually play front 9 in 90-120 min. The back 9 is another story-- quite a bit more difficult and several blind holes, making it tough if you haven't played it several times before.
Could be better
This is a decent course, but felt like it could have been a lot better. There were a lot of golfers on the course with the good weather, which is great, but the lack of both a marshal and structured start times made for a long and frustrating round. The course itself was well maintained and clean, but the drained water hazards took away some aesthetic value, especially at the 17th green.
greens were in good shape however the fairways and tee boxes need some attention.
Course is in generally good shape. Pace of play was very good. The motor carts were in good repair and clean. Staff was super friendly even though the price was ultra inexpensive.
Normally fast challenging greens.
I play this course alot and I am usually extremely happy with the staff and the conditions. On 09/30/13 the greens were long and quite bumpy. The conditions seem to be going backwards since they partnered with new course management company.
One of my favorite places to play in StL
Fairfield is in great condition, especially the greens, which hold and roll beautifully. Fairways in good condition considering the dry summer. Staff works very hard to maintain good play. Some really fun holes, esp. 2, 7, 11, 13. 18 gives you a big decision off the tee--you can hit anything from driver to 7-iron--so no round is ever over till it's over. Fairfield is consistent, a very solid value, and great fun to play.
