Enjoyed playing the course...somew interesting hole layouts.
Fairways were extremely dry thus balls hit in the center of the fairway bounced & ended up in the rough making shot placement a tough order.
Hidden Gem
I played on September 15th for the first time. I am embarrassed to say, I've lived in St. Louis for 20 plus years and didn't even know this place existed. While the course isn't long, it is super fun! The staff was great, the course was in great shape and my buddies and I had a wonderful time. I had to hit shots that you normally don't have to hit and it was really fun! I highly recommend this track!
WORST COURSE I'VE EVER PLAYED
Teeboxes were hard as a rock
Fairways were dead
Rough was brown and mostly dead and dirt
Staff let a 3 some tee off on 10 in front of us as we made the turn
Greens were smallest I have ever seen
Bootom line... I play 50-75 times a year and this course was terrible.
Putt-Putt sized greens
We thought we were mistaken when we saw a PAR 5 that was less than 400 yds. The fairways were burnt and bare, and the greens were postage stamp size. Without a GPS, it would be VERY DIFFICULT to navigate this course (few yardage markers) and poor course layout. Too many other courses in this area in this price range to waste another day here. No wonder we were 1 of two foursomes on the entire course. There's a first and last for everything.
DO YOU HEAR THE PSYCHO MUSIC PLAYING - DON'T GOLF HERE!!!
1) Course staff is more concerned with going home than their customers. We were not told until after making the turn at about 6:00 that we would have to have our carts in by sunset at 7:40. When we were in our carts getting ready to drive to the 17th tee the guy collecting carts drove out to tell us it was 7:28 and we would not be able to finish. Of course, we probably could have finished in those 12 minutes, or maybe a few more, I mean, who hasn't played golf for about 20-30 minutes after sunset. Obviously the course staff cares more about collecting your money and getting home to watch reruns of "The Simpsons" than they do their customer. Or who knows, maybe Big Foot comes out after dark and kidnaps golfers and he was just protecting us.
2) The course is Rinky-dink. Seriously, Hole #1 is a 390 yard par 5 (from the back tees)? Just make it a par 4 and let your short front 9 be a par 34.
3) Scenic vistas are breathtaking...because you are laughing so hard. If you like hillbilly golf, this is the place for you. This would include the beautiful mobile home not 25 feet from the #3 tee. Nice touch, I would rank it right up there with the scenic views at Pebble Beach. Also, can somebody please tell me where you are supposed to hit the ball on the back 9 (or the at least the back 7)? I don't mind blind tee shots, but when you hit the ball it would be nice if you knew where the fairway turned. I felt like I was playing Where's Waldo on half of the holes. Oh, and nice touch on the 11th and 15th where it doesn't make sense to follow the fairway to get to the green. That parallels nicely with the shortcuts you made in course design. Nice try with the land you have, but not a course for the serious golfer, or even an average golfer.
4) Did you run out of money when making the greens? The question is, how many greens can you have that are smaller than 20 x 30 FEET (not yards). I like the description of another golfer on Golf Now's website that went something like this. #8 is like trying to hit it on a round rock covered by a piece of carpet. And of course the 9th hole, a 250 yard par 4 to a green the size of my living room is great! After all, you ran out of room and had to cram a 9th hole in somewhere. Maybe you should have made that mobile home mobile and freed up some more room
5) Course Conditions were very poor. The greens had been aerated, ok, but did you have to do it with a team of draft horsed and an 1850's John Deere plow? We literally putted and the ball followed the furrow it had come to rest in. Worked great if you were in the right furrow, but of course, that was very seldom. I thought maybe you had planted seed corn in those rows, but most of the greens were too small for the combine.
6) It's overpriced! We got a rate of $19.50 at 4:00 on golf now (normal rate is like $35+), but there are plenty other courses you can play for about that rate at that time (including the one where you have to hit your red ball in the clown's mouth on the 18th and you don't get your ball back. Of course, I don't know, maybe the 18th at this course had a clown on it too!!!
7) Time to close! All right, I've had enough fun (and some good laughs at the course too). To sum it up, when you have a course like this, you should really take care of the people who come to play because some might actually come back (and bring other people with them). I should have gone with my gut and gone somewhere else when I drove in and only saw a hand full of cars on the parking lot on a beautiful cool Saturday August afternoon. Oh well, not many cars had come down that dirt and rock road to golf that day (and it is a dirt and rock road to get there); and, I can tell you one car that will never have to be washed again because it will not be going down that road ever again... mine! (Or my golfing friends)
Thank you Fairfield for a golf experience I hope to never have again!
Greens were tough, "sand" was tougher
Greens were aerated recently and were bumpy and quick.
"Sand" traps weren't. Actually more like raked dirt and really tough to figure what to do from them. Should be considered ground under repair. Fortunately I only was in a couple.
Need to pave the cart path on the back nine and complete repairs/renovations on the back nine...
I like the course and the layout. Need to pave the cart path on the back nine and complete repairs/reno
Great for the price
Sand traps need a lot of work. Greens in good shape.
"Interesting Course..."
While the greens overall were in good shape as were most of the tee boxes..it was the areas around the fairways that needed work. Most fairways were in good condition..a few were a little rough. The only areas that were in really poor condition were the areas around the cart paths (some were more like goat paths...overgrown with weeds and such) and the need for shock absorbers on the carts because the path areas were in such bad shape. I used to play this course years ago and hadn't played it in about 5 years and I was saddend to see the grounds in disrepair. The lakes are almost gone and overgrown with vegitation (including small trees now.) I enjoy the challenge of this course, as 80% or more of the holes are not straight shots.
will not play it again
most important thing is,the course you do not no where to hit youre drive.you dont no wether the hole dog legs right or left or straight half the time we didnt know which flag was our green they need to put the course layout on the score card.the course is confusing if you never played the course before, so the course did not impress me.
Course has surprises on it and was a nice change of pace from the straight out and straight back that so many moderateky priced courses offer.
I found it challenging and a pleasant course. Staff was friendly and the course was in good condition. Liked that it isn't all just straight ahead shots and it took a little bit of thinking to get around on it. Bunkers need some work and they are doing that.
slow play
they had some kind of e-mail special and excessively overbooked. Had to wait just to get a cart.Pace of play excruciatingly slow.Note to golf courses: if you want repeat customers, give them a pleasant golf experience. Golfers talk to each other and give recommendations where to go and where not to go. Do not go here if you enjoy a 4 hour round
The lack of a Marshall on the course was huge- we had two guys in front of us- with only 1 bag- driving all over tee boxes, next to greens, etc.
The lack of a Marshall on the course was huge- we had two guys in front of us- with only 1 bag- driving all over tee boxes, next to greens, etc. They were slow, rude, and loud- they never should have been allowed on the course in that fashion. Their beer was overpriced- $3.25 a can- for a country course. The course very tight- was hit into several times, though I was in the middle of my own fairway. Won't go back.
great course
Love this course. As the front and back nines were built many years apart, they play quite differently. The front is a relatively easy grip and rip it warm up for a challeging shot makers back nine. Well maintained and freindly staff. Try it.
course has some good features
greens good, fairways good, cart paths bad. good for the money
Fun course
The course borderlines pristine, played the day after heavy rains and all but 3 fairways were open. Course staff friendly and helpful.
This is course inexpensive, but still is not worth it.
Yesterday I played this course for the first time with low expectations because of the reasonable prices even during prime tee times. It still did not meet my expectations. The greens were too small, every hole that was not a par 3 on the back side was a dog leg, the fairways and tee boxes were not maintained well at all, the carts were not wiped down, etc. Some of the holes were meant to be challenging but turned out to be just plain silly. #9, for example, could the green be any smaller and more sloped? I know the hole is a 250 yard par 4, but the green was an area rug sitting on a boulder. The staff was nice and the rates are fantastic, but I would rather go to the driving range.
where is the hole ?
The course is short (5900 yds) from the back tees. It seemed as though there is very few holes that you can tell where you are trying to hit the ball. Lots of layups because of doglegs, yet you have no idea of distances, because no signs or the scorecard doesn't really inform you. Would be easier to find now that I have played the course. With that, still played in less than 3 hours. Wouldn't pay more than 20 dollars to play this course.
This course is very well maintained. Wish the greens were a little faster.
Enjoyed playing this course very much, it was challenging enough with the narrow fairways and small greens.
Great Course
This is a great course if you catch a good deal on golfnow. It's not a long course but is well maintained and has some challenging holes especially on the back 9. One complaint I have is the one par 3 that has power lines running across the front of one of the tee boxes. I have twice hit them landing my ball in the water. This is very discouraging. However I'm sure they are just making the best use of their land, still a bummer. Also this course has some Small greens, but they are very well kept. All in all this is a nice course and can be played in 3 hours if time is a factor.
That was hilarious. I never had such a great belly laugh reading a course review. Thank you.
