Kestrel Ridge Golf Club
About
Kestrel Ridge Golf Club in Columbus offers a fun getaway that is a just a quick drive from both Madison and Milwaukee. At just over 6,000 yards, it is a manageable length that beginners can approach with confidence. The terrain is mostly flat but there are some subtle undulations that can cause some tricky lies. The golf course, for the most part, is wide-open, though, a few mature trees border some of the fairways. A number of sparkling ponds dot the course, coming into play on a few holes. Kestrel Ridge Golf Club finishes with its signature hole, which claims to be the hardest two-shot par 4 to be found anywhere. This hole demands accuracy with a two-tiered fairway, sloped from left to right, that leads to a small landing area but after that you are then faced with a treacherous carry over a large rock ravine.

Good Place to work on irons
This course is not very long, but does present some challenges. The weather was great and the course was in good condition. It was slow to play because no groups got paired up. I came as a single and had to play behind a 4 some and 3 two somes. I had a single behind me as well, but I just paired up with him after 6 holes so I as not waiting so long. Overall it is a nice course to play.
excellent and fun round of golf
Super fun course to play. Very good experience. We will be back!!!!!
Soggy Ground - GREAT Course
It was our first time there, and overall had a great time. It had rained the entire week before, so the course was a swamp. Wading through the soggy grass and mud (around the cart paths) wasn't pleasant, but the holes were laid out very well and were challenging. The service we received was some of the best we've had at a golf course. We'll go again !
Not worth full price, yet
I was able to play 18 holes with a cart for $18, thanks to golfnow. Regular price is $37, but the course is not worth that. None of the bunkers had actual sand; they were all fairly compacted dirt. Hole variety was fair, but with few hills and not very many trees, it got a little uninteresting at times. Once more of the trees mature, they finish the work on the cart paths, and they put real sand in the bunkers, this will be a fine course.
Course is in the process of adding paved paths.
Course is in the process of adding paved paths, so it had a lot of dirt piles and unseeded areas to navigate.
Course was nice.
Liked the course, but there was a lot of dust on the cart paths due to them making new cart paths and they were still in the process of grading dirt.
KRGC
Great course, great staff, course always in good shape.
This course offers you a great experience
I like the new cart paths. I enjoyed playing the front nine. The back nine was a little more challenging but I still had fun. The service and the food was great .
Fun course to play
The greens were faster than I expected. There are still spots in the fairway that water sits when it rains that need to be taken care of. There are some things that could be done to make it a more attractive course. The course is not as wide open as it appears. There are some holes that are very tight for the tee shot and some that challenge you to go for it. Number 18 is as good a hole as any around as it is very deceptive.
Suprising Course
I was a little skeptical originally about playing this course, considering it's far off the beaten path in Columbus, WI (about a 20 min. drive from Madison), but I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the greens, fairways, and friendliness of the staff.
Overall, the course is extremely open with little to no trees to worry about. The course compensates for the lack of trees with good bunker placement and the changing width of really well maintained fairways, which really made you think about shot selection and distance.
With a par 70 course, there are going to be plenty of Par 4's, and this is no different with Kestrel Ridge. Most of the Par 4's here, spanning distances between 320 to 390 yards, (except for one Par 4 that was about 270 yards), keep you honest with the classic decision about laying up or trying to drive it within 80 - 100 yards of the green. The Par 5's were on the shorter side and Par 3's were all around 140 to 175 yards with a challenging amount of well placed bunkers.
Greens were extremely fast, which is probably due to the lack of rain and very dry conditions of the course, but the quality and maintenance of the greens really impressed me.
The cart paths were very bumpy and the overall scenery on the course was more on the boring side, but don't let that keep you from enjoying this great course. I would definitely recommend this course to players of all levels and skill types.
Nice course in a pleasant rural environment.
This is a very pleasant course if you like open spaces with few trees (as I do). It offers decent challenges with only one potentially "punishing" hole (#18). Scratch players might not find it up to their liking, but good average players will enjoy it. We were not pushed or slowed down by other players. The staff was friendly, and the rates were very favorable. We played after heavy rains had flooded the course a few days earlier, but the course was still in good shape. Only one hole was shortened due to water damage around the tee box. I drive about an hour to play this course several times a year and will continue to do so in the future.
Just Enough of a Challenge
There were no woods to contend with, but there was still enough water and bunkers to force straight shots. There are no par 5's on the back nine, but the 4's were long enough.
Course is flat, but has many hazards which make it somewhat tight. A good value.
Kestrel Ridge is a fun course to play, and was pleasantly surprised at the conditions of the fairways and greens. The course is a solid value, as it is priced lower than most courses in the area. Atmosphere is laid back. Personnel are very friendly. The course is not crowded, so pace of play was excellent. Practice facilities are excellent too.
Great Value
There are a few rough spots, but overall the fairways and greens were in very good shape. It is just far enough from the east edge of Madison, Wi (about 20 miles) that the rates are very low compared to the courses closer to Madison.
