The super bargain
We booked our round thru Golfnow. The course was great and the weather could not be better.
A Must Play
Course should be one on your list to play......Great shape...friendly staff....good food.....
Challenging but fair
Course was in very good shape. Staff was friendly pace of play was excellent (Wed).
Great Challenging Cgood Course
I played the round with 2 other people. The pace was quite good except for the fact that we had a twosome in front of us who were clearly not capable to tee from the blue tees. That resulted in a wasted 40 min as we were waiting on almost every hole. Course is in great shape. Greens were extremely firm & fast & in good shape. Would love to play there again.
Great Layout and Course Conditions
The course itself was in great shape. Greens rolling very nicely. Fairways great as well. Carts seemed new-ish. Water available often.
Only negative was the attitude of both of the starter and the pro shop attendant. Both acted as if we as customers were a burden. And don't bother calling during the round to ask for a course marshal to come try to speed up play. First, we were laughed at as if we were exaggerating and then NO marshal was ever sent out.
I will definitely return as the course in a very convenient location and I actually prefer the layout to some of courses nearby, but hopefully the people working that day are in a better mood.
Challenging, in great condition, and great value
My club has just been airated so I played this at twilight last Friday for a whopping $40. Incredibly cheap. This course is not overly long - even from the tips - but it is still VERY difficult. Another reviewer complained about the greens being too hard - yes, they are firm. This is one of the great things about this course - the firm, pure greens. You need to hit it in the fairway to be able to hold the greens with an iron shot. That's how good golf courses are set up. The fairways are plenty wide enough to hit if you're playing well. They're also firm so you can hit less than driver and still get plenty of distance if driver accuracy is a problem for you.
I reiterate that the greens were really, really good. I think the firm conditions are part of the reason - fewer unrepaired pitch marks and other damage from inconsiderate golfers.
The pace of play was poor. The marshal simply apologized to us for the slow play ahead. I don't know why these public courses don't kick golfers off the course when they won't speed up. So you get a couple bad reviews from the jerks you don' t want to come back to your course while all the other reviews improve. Sounds like a win/win to me. Anyway, ALL the public courses around here take 5 hours to play - that's the main reason why I joined a private club.
I didn't hang out at the clubhouse this time around, but I've been here many times in the past and the clubhouse is very spacious and well-appointed. It's a great place to watch the end of the golf coverage on TV with a beer.
They are airating this week but when it's healed in a few weeks, I recommend you consider coming out. If you can't handle a 5 hour round, play 9 holes or go private. ;)
Oh, I indicated that I walked the course. Carts are mandatory (and necessary) but I only hopped on to a playing partner's cart to make the several long rides between greens and tees.
nice course
fairways and greens in good shape...pace of play left something to be desired...4 hrs and 25 minutes on a Monday afternoon.
Nice Course
I always wanted to play this course, but just couldn't make it happen. I was able to grab a deal for Sunday afternoon. The course was in great shape.
Gone Downhill in Past Few Years
Upon arrival, both the starter and person in the pro shop couldn't have been more unfriendly. Both acted as if doing their job and interacting with customers was interfering with their days. In fairness, there were different people when we finished our round and they were both considerably friendlier.
The pace of play was intolerable - over 5 hours! We truly waited on EVERY shot and we tee'd off early on a weekday. There were many groups on the course - at one point, there were four groups waiting on one hole. If the course is regularly that crowded, they need a marshal to keep play moving.
Good news - there were no pitch marks on the greens. Bad news - the greens were so hard, that it was impossible to make a pitch mark. The greens didn't hold any shots, so it wasn't possible to chip on and stay on the green. We're no the PGA - no reason to make the greens as hard as the US Open.
This course used to be really nice and one of my favorites...great condition, friendly staff. Unfortunately, this is no longer the case. The only thing that has remained the same is the high-priced green fee. I didn't mind paying it in the past because I got what I paid for. That is no longer the case.
On a positive note, there was some wonderful wildlife we got to see (while constantly waiting to hit).
Greens as hard as rock!
I was told this was a great course, but have walked away dissapointed. The starter and proshop person were ambivalent at best. Not cheerful or helpful. The course itself is nice enough but not in great condition. The greens were so hard you could not even make a pitch mark. Leave your divot tool at home. A good approach is rewarded with a bounce off the back. Needless to say putting was lightning fast. No wonder play is so slow. No marshal was ever seen. Sometimes there were 3 groups in one par 4. Lots of waiting. For the price of playing there, I will look elsewhere.
Highly recommended
Highly recommend this fine golf course, always in great condition, greens are perfect, staff is excellent, and it's my favorite DC/MD suburban course to play. Challenging enough and interesting layout. No hole is the same. Just a great place.
Excellent course condition.
This is a links style course that has few water hazards. The course is a fair layout.
Mont County course
Overall good experience...Would play again...Should have "Pace of Play" on weekends...tends to be slow...
Hampshire Greens
Great course for the price!!!! I was a little upset about going to the grill at 3:00pm and there was no hotdogs or hamburgers ready....really....the only poor thing about this course....great items in pro shop!
Good and enjoyed as usual
Play with a friend and both of us enjoied as usual. I think it's teh best course among 9 MCG course.
However, it need more attention on the green maintenance.
Hampshire Green
Played there 5/31 and 6/7 (both in the afternoon) . Course was in VERY GOOD condition. Both of them about 4 1/2 hrs. Club house staff was very friendly. BUT the starter was VERY RUDE - definitely big attitude problem. May be he thinks that everybody is on his payroll. I would have given the place 5 stars without that nuisance.
Hampshire Green for Beginners
This is a Beautiful course but, hard for beginners. I have played this course around 5 times and I love the course more and more every time. The par 5 at hole number two will make a beginner sweat bullets but, enjoy the view atop this monster!
Hampshire greens
I enjoy the course, which is in good condition. The rough is very difficult to play from which encourage you to stay away.
Very impressive golf course
Great Layout
About what you expect for a Montgomery County run course. Rough and fairways in great shape. The only issue was the yardage on the card didn't match the actual holes, especially on par 3's.
