Maintained well, Teebox rotated to give multiple looks at the course
This track will give you a headache,, And a serious butt kicking.. If you stay within your skill set and keep the ball in play you will score on this course..
Excellent track
We played Friday in the heat and the greens were still rolling perfect. Excellent course and would highly recommend this course
Great course when under $50
Its a great course if you can avoid full price. The best county course in Montgomery County.
great course
great conditions well maintained cordial staff fun to play
Fantastic municipal course
For a municipal course, this place greatly exceeded my expectations. The facility itself is somewhat small but it's clean and does the job. Service was friendly and easy-going.
Driving range: OK. Mats were used in the stalls. Not much to look at.
Putting green: Great. "Whoa!" was my first reaction; this was a good first impression. Slick greens, rolled true to the course.
Tee boxes: Good. Basic but well groomed and maintained.
Fairways: Great. Generous width and well maintained.
Rough: Tough. Very lush. I lost several balls because it was so thick and the balls just buried themselves.
Greens: Great. Tough, undulating greens but very well groomed.
Sand: OK. Easy to escape but some bunkers had nests of wasps in them.
Carts: Great. Electrically powered. Rain covers would have been nice but the day was sunny so no big deal.
Some of the rides between the green to the next hole were REALLY LONG, say 1-2 minutes at full speed. I definitely recommend getting a cart.
above average layout
was not prepared for $74 holiday rate; way too much for county course
good condition, tough pins.
did not see any rangers though and we had some slow players in front, jumped past them at the turn.
Greens roll true and are in great shape
Well maintained and it was in great shape. It was reasonably priced for a DC area course
June 21, 2013, course in best shape ever
I've been playing Hampshire Greens since its inception, and last Friday was the BEST shape this course has ever been..I strongly suggest playing now over the AT&T tournament weekend.
Great greens, lush fairways.
A must play
Coming from Northern VA, this course is a bit further out from the Metro area than I would normally play but it came highly recommended from a friend, and after playing it I would have to agree. The course is in great shape and has a challenge for everyone with multiple tee boxes. Played on a Sunday afternoon and the course was full, so the pace of play wasn't the fastest, but not the slowest either. Houses are present on the course, but not intrusive like some others, and no blind tee shots (always a plus). Not sure what the normal greens fees are, but I got a pretty good deal thru Golfnow, and would probably take that long ride again for a similar deal.
In pretty good shape but pace was slow
Course conditions surprisingly good considering all the rain from the day before; greens were fast & bunkers were dry & raked.
Only complaint was round took around 5 hours to complete.
The course is in great condition and fun to play in.
The course is in great condition and fun to play in.
A challenging course!
Played HG on Friday afternoon 5/17/2013. Course was in great shape! This track places a premium on accurate drives and approach shots to the greens. A good test for the accomplished golfer, but probably not too much fun for a beginner due to the forced carries and elevated greens on some holes. Great value for twilight rate of $29.95!
Ehhhh- worth it for under $50 on a weekend
I heard great things about this course from a few golf buddies, so when I saw the $44 deal I couldn't pass it up. Hindsight, I'm glad I played it, but should have chosen one of the other deals.
First off- the blonde kid who was working the bar was terrible. Not going to waste your time going into details, but waiting 10 minutes at the turn for 6 canned beverages is a joke. And then to tell me "you can't tip on credit card, only cash," was just laughable.
Secondly- my round lasted 5 hours and that's only because we skipped a hole to drive around the slowest group ever. None of us are going pro here- to take 10 practice swings, line up putts from every which angle and attempt to find every ball that went in the woods is unnecessary. I guess that was more of a vent about them than the course, but a ranger would be helpful.
Third- the course was in decent shape, fairways and greens were good, but the rough was much deeper than it should be. Even if you knew exactly where you hit the ball, you would have a hard time finding it. It's Spring and the courses I've played during the past week or two have all had pretty long rough, but not like this. Also, the first par 5 is a joke- not well kept and very challenging = not so enjoyable. All of the par 3s are fun and ace-able. Almost every green is well-protected. Sand is inconsistent between bunkers. When playing on a windy day, this place will eat you up (which it did to me). The aforementioned 570 yard par 5 had a constant wall of wind blowing straight into you. Lots of blind tee shots, which can be frustrating on your first time playing a course.
So, long and short of it is the course itself was pretty good, but all the other factors about it kind of turned the experience upside down.
Always a good experience
Always very well maintained, & often in pristine condition. This is a challenging, shot-makers course that puts a premium on accuracy from the tee. Customer service here is always top-notch & friendly.
great course but slow play
course in great shape the green were great and med. speed very enjoyable. play the first 9 in 2 hour got to the back and three group on tenth hole went back around the front for 2 more
Great course, great GolfNow price. A real favorite.
If you haven't played Hampshire Greens yet, you're making a mistake. This course is one of the finest publicly owned courses I've ever played, anywhere. The layout is awesome. There's a good mix of direction, and there is a ton of elevation change.
The course is generally forgiving off the tee - you won't lose too many balls to the trees, but the rough is pretty dense if you do miss the fairways. Your second shots will require much more accuracy, though. Bunkers are well maintained, and play true. Some of them are quite deep though, so make sure you bring your sand game, if it's one of those days where you find the beach alot. The greens are still recovering from aeration right now, but they're slick and have a fair amount of undulation. And, they're huge. One of our group had a number of 60-80 ft putts.
This course is very picturesque - it really is hard to believe this is a county-owned course. It's in pretty good shape right now.
This is one of the few courses that I don't mind paying the full price for. (Although, with GolfNow you don't always have to.)
Disappointed
Disappointed. Had to argue with pro shop over range balls. Golf Now says range balls included, pro shop attendant said they were not. I had to show prow shop attendant on his own computer (He did not know how to use it. I guess he was implying i was lying.).
Also, no one said greens had just been air-rated or that one entire hole was being air-rated while we were playing (several machines and multiple grounds staff). Waist of time playing that hole. Guess they didn't want to say anything that may hurt business.
Great track, not overly hard but makes you think.
Great track, course was in great condition for the time of the year. Sand traps were impressive! Greens were recently punched but still rolled true. In a week or 2 this course should really look good!
Were the greens still undergoing aeration or were they back to normal?
