Stop mowing while we are golfing
This course is very nice but the people mowing were mowing the grass while we were trying to play the same hole they were mowing on. At one point I had to run up to my ball yelling at him not to mow over my ball. Then after that we played the back nine while this same guy was following us hole by hole and mowing every hole we were trying to play . We teed off at 7:40AM so we could have a nice day but this was completely ruined by trying to dodge the guy on the mower. Complained to the club house afterwards and all he said was sorry about that...thanks for nothing. We will not be coming back and we play a lot of golf. You lose.
My Favorite Course
Links type course with lots of elevation changes. Two holes(8&11)have forced carries over a quarry which runs thru the layout.Fairways and greens are generous size, but beware of fescue that runs thru the course.Play the proper tees and enjoy.Play the wrong tees and pay the price.Greens are getting faster and the course is in impeccable condition.I could play here seven days a week and never get bored.
this course delivers
Is being a hard course a bad thing? i dont think so. #1 this course is beautiful. #2 Is it hella challenging? yes. from the tips its 7,000 so if you are a dinker don't show up, go play some municipal course. This course demands respect and in order to that, bring a respectful game.
Condition & course laying out
Very nice course laying out specialy front nine and need course management.I really enjoyed playing like this.
One of Best Courses in Western Suburbs
Worth the drive, great challenging layout, well maintained.
Good conditions and value
Play here 8-10 times a year
Always in great condition
Solid test
Played in under 4 hours
(3:40)
Must play
Great course and great facilities
I love highlands of Elgin Course. It’s as good as some of the private courses I play.
Still wet
although temp was good, grounds were very wet, cart path only...everything else was good to excellent ...definitely will be back when dryer conditions prevail...
Bad 'ole Keith Foster designed the front 9 and his former assistant Art Schaupeter designed the back. The course only loses marks for poor walkability. I'm sure the routing was influenced by the desire to spread out the 4 quarry holes across the 18. The beautiful par 3 7th is the highlight of the quarry holes, but there are many memorable holes besides these. Centerline bunkers, fescue, and fairway bunkers make the tee shots more challenging than most approach shots and greens. Great value for the quality.
1st day open in 2019. Showing good early conditions
I love this course and I have never had a bad experience here outside of that induced upon myself by poor play or poor decision making.
This continued today. For mid March, the course is looking good and playing well. I can only imagine this will improve to phenomenal in the weeks to come. They protected the course with cart path only rules and we were still able to keep pace.
Though almost all grass was still brown, the fairways, greens and rough were surprisingly consistent and playable.
Signs of improvements in the works around the course and overall, we could not have asked for better conditions for our first round of 2019. I look forward to returning for many more!
I should add that we sat down for a drink and a bowl of chicken chili in the clubhouse afterward . It was delicious and a great way to wrap up a great round. Grumpy Goat is a great place to hang with a great view of the course and the staff is always friendly.
Thank you for taking the time to review us grumpy12. Your feedback is valuable, and we look forward to delivering you excellent service again soon. Highlands of Elgin thanks you!
