1st time at Kinderhook
Middle of February and the course was in "winter condition". So, I didn't expect to be playing on a course that was in mid-season form. I was glad to find a course that was available at that time of year. We enjoyed the great staff, driving range, picturesque scenery and designer course layout. The greens and bent grass fairways still played good and we had a lot of fun. The winter fees were extremely affordable. Will look forward to playing this course when summer gets here! Thanks to Old Kinderhook!!!
Miscommunication
I was disappointed to learn that only 9 holes were open on the day I played the course. This was not disclosed by Golfnow and the course indicated this was communicated to Golfnow. I could tell that I was not the only person who encountered this situation.
The 9 holes I played were nice, but I was expecting to play the regulation 18.
Aerification Time
Just hit it at the wrong time. They were Aerifying the front nine so had to play the back nine twice.
Beautiful, challenging and friendly
Challenging course. Very friendly staff and beautiful course!
Great shape
Staff very helpful
Course was in excellent condition
Old Kinderhook Fall Golf
Played with a friend using Golfnow hot deal, which was an excellent value for this course.
Overall the course was in excellent condition. I found the greens to be very firm with approach shots and extremely fast when putting, almost to the point of being unfair.
We were paired with another twosome that played at a slower rate than we would have gone at (4 1/2 hrs.).
Overall, a very scenic, well maintained, and challenging course that I would recommend.
Fall Golf
Played Monday late morning, the course was in great shape. The greens were like glass. Well manicured and fast. The fairways were picture perfect , while the rough, well was as expected rough. Great place to play, great layout and challenging.
Beautiful Course
Need to stay in the fairway......... a lot of tall weedy areas past the rough!
Staff was helpful and extremely friendly
A buddy and I drove in from Kansas to play a couple rounds in the area, and we got a GolfNow deal to play at Old Kinderhook. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. Our tee time was 12:51 p.m., but they let us go off early because there were no groups waiting. We play most of the 18 by ourselves and had a great time!
Be warned, though. If you're not hitting it straight, you're in for a long day. Plenty of shots from elevated tees. The landing areas are fairly generous, but can be intimidating to the eye.
The tee boxes and fairways were immaculate, but the greens were a touch rough in some areas, probably from overuse during the summer. Some suffered from a lack of a breeze blowing through the valley.
We probably encountered the cart girl 4 or 5 times, which was plenty. Overall, it was a great experience, well worth the $55. I would NOT pay full price.
Great course
I really enjoy playing this course. Lots of challenging holes & lots of options.
Thank you for your comments. Hope to see you back soon.
Good course for $40. Not for $80
Course was great and at the $40 a round we played was a great value. At the regular prices the service was lacking for an elite course. Cart girl by once in 18 holes, no one to help us with cart before or after round. The starter and front desk man were both professional and helpful. The course is beautiful but it isn't run like a top rate club.
Your absolutely correct. The service you received is not common place at Old Kinderhook and will be addressed immediately. Thank you for comments and come back soon.
Great Layout, Frustrating Pace of Play
This isn't my first time playing at Old Kinderhook but it had been 8 years since I last played it. Overall the course is fantastic. The layout is really well done, the greens were in great shape and the different tee boxes really change the course from hard to easy depending on which you choose.
My biggest frustration today was the pace of play and this came from the tee sheet not being managed well. My wife and I are here on vacation, since she isn't a golfer I booked my tee time as a single. I understand that foursomes are always going to dominate the course but there is things that the course can do to make it work out well for everyone.
When I got to the course the guy behind the counter mentioned that there were 3 foursomes in front of me and a twosome behind me. I asked if he wanted me to join the twosome to make pace of play better. He said that wasn't necessary. (Honestly i would have preferred to play with the twosome as it would have helped slow me down.)
Well as you can imagine, I waited all day, most of the time I would sit and watch for 8-10 minutes as the group in front of my played. The group in front of me seemed to be very annoyed that i was playing so close to them but they didn't want me to go through since there were 2 foursomes in front of them.
At one point a marshall came by, after talking to the group in front of us, and said, "you understand there's no where for you to go right?" That seemed a little confrontational to me but he came by later and was very friendly, even chatted with us for a bit while we were waiting for the green to clear.
I understand that some of this stuff is unavoidable but in my opinion the course should have done one of two things.
1. Pair me with the twosome and that would allow us to play at a pace a little slower.
2. Tell the 3 foursomes to allow me through which would have then allowed me to be out in front of everyone as there were no other groups of earlier.
Overall, Old Kinderhook never disappoints as its a great track but I think there are some things with tee sheet management that would help everyone enjoy their round more.
Pace of play can be and should be handled at the counter when checking in. Pairing you up could have been the answer. I don't know all the circumstances surrounding who the other twosome was but it could have been that they did not want to be paired. In either case I am so sorry that your experience was not up to our standards. I hope that you will consider us again very soon.
Great greens.
The course is and always is in top notch shape.
Come play.
Thank you for the excellent feedback. Come back soon.
Worth the drive!
If you are visiting the lake area and can only play 1-2 rounds, OK should be on your short list. It's a massive, sprawling complex wih top-draw amenities, practice facility and food service. Fairways ar generous, but woe if you leave them. Well bunkered, the track is uniquely designed testing all aspects of your game. I've played golf at the lake for 25+ years and this course is a close second to the Club at Porto Cima.
Glad you had a good experience at Old Kinderhook. Hope to see you again very soon.
