Some of the toughess greens I have played all year due to the undulations and different tiers-shot placement at a premium.
The starter was great! They had a tournament go out just ahead of our tee time and he had us start on hole 8 to get ahead of the tournament so we could play right along (he didn't have to do that). The course was fun to play.
Great greens, employees a bit rude
The course offers a fair test tee to green. Around the greens this is one of the toughest courses around. The greens run about 12 on the stimp and are very ungelated making up and downs and two putts from anywhere difficult. The staff can be rude sometimes almost like they don't want you to be there.
Level, moderate course
Greens, tee boxes and fairways are all in very good shape. The course does not have any water hazards, which, in my opinion makes it an easier course.
if you can play for $30 or less give it a shot
The course maintained well but every hole was a straight shot. The only thing that had really any difficulty were the greens which happened to be the best part of the entire course.
Good conditions, fast greens
Descent for the price I paid, but rack rate excessive for a fairly easy course. Good conditions but little challenge.
well maintained course.
The course is well maintained. The fairways, tees and greens were in excellent shape especially considering the heat and dryness this summer. I highly recommend this course.
Fun course
This course is fun and challenging. Fairways wide open but greens are tough. Sand rarely comes into play. Full price is a bit excessive but discounted rates are easy to find and hot deals are a real value. Low handicappers might think the course is too easy but intermediate golfers will definitely have some fun. My gender is male.
Not worth the money
This course isn’t bad to play and the conditions were decent. Of course, the summer in St. Louis this year has seen lots of rain so most courses are in great shape. There is some construction going on in some of the areas but it did not interfere with our playing. We moved at a good pace, however, the Marshall came up to us more than once to push us along so we felt rushed and it wasn’t that we were going too slow. Also, “The Landings” is located directly behind Spirit of St. Louis airport so you have to deal with the occasional jet plane taking off and landing. The amenities were dumpy at best. The “clubhouse” is more of a shack and the “banquet hall” is really just a big room with windows that needs serious updating. I can’t believe anyone would want to get married here. Lastly, the course is way off the main road and in plain view, very flat and would do better with more trees. There is also no water on the course whatsoever (geese and jet planes do not get along I was told). All-in-all, the course was not bad but certainly not worth paying $50.00 on a weekend. There are much better courses around town that are cheaper so I’ll take my chances elsewhere. Glad I played there but I am no rush to go back anytime soon.
The course was very well maintained and the pace of play was just right.
We did, however have a bad experience with this golf trip. When we got to the golf course, they did not have our reservation from Golf Now. We got to the course one hour early because we were going to use the driving range. I called Golf Now, but the phone call and getting it straightened out with the course was a 45 minute experience. They did work us in to play and the issue was resolved. Just a little apprehensive of this happening again.
Attention Needed!
Tucked away behind the Chesterfield Airport and the St. Louis Premium Outlet Mall, you'll find this course. Clubhouse is decent and staff is friendly. As for the course, cart paths are horrible and bumpy. Tee boxes are cluttered with debris and weeds. Fairways are ok. Greens are cut low and are pretty fast. You'll notice several members of the maintenance crew all working but cutting grass that has nothing to do with the field of play. New tee boxes are being built. Course is messy. Overpriced. I had not been there in several years and after 9 holes, I remembered why. It's just not a "must play" course when the St. Louis/Illinois metro area offers many more options.
Watch out when you book
I booked a tee time for my and a friend for his birthday. We went to pay, thinking the cost was $31 per person. The cashier asked me if I was 57 (I am not) and I started laughing. She charged me $47 saying I had booked the senior rate. I am sure I did this but another worker in the clubhouse said that happens and you have to be careful. I had to pay an extra $36 to golf and I would not have. So when I say watch out when you book, I mean watch out so you don't get upcharged when you arrive. If they have this happen over and over, then they should change their GolfNow reservation page to make it more obvious.
well maintained
I like the challenging, fast greens. Course requires one to be heads-up with some of its tightness and features.
Greens in great condition
Course is in very good shape however many of the holes lack character. Nice links layout.
Speedy greens!
Course in great shape and loved the speedy greens. People - please fix your divots! Will help keep the course in good playing condition. Not much water but watch out for that tall grass and deep rough!
Links Style course in good condition
This course is well maintained and the greens are fast. Some improvements are needed with cart paths, however. There is evidence alterations are underway to improve drainage along the right hand side of No. 15, around No. 16 tee box and along the right hand side of No. 16 fairway. The rough is tall grass which will consume your ball.
Generous fairways, smooth greens
I've played here several times this year and it's a nice enough course. If it was $10-$15 cheaper, I'd play here all the time. It's not quite as nice as they think. A little pricey.
good course
very good course with challenging hole locations and difficult greens.
If you like challenging greens this course is made for you. The condition of the tee boxes, fairways, and greens were very good but ...
The greens were very fast. That coupled with the hole locations made it a true challenge to get the ball into the cup within 2 putts. Although I am not a great putter, the large majority of putts were 3. This was the first time we had played this course and we were playing with someone who played the course regularly. He indicated that he had never experienced such difficult hole placements. Maybe it was just an off day for the person who determined hole locations as all seemed to at the peak of a ridge on every hole.
Interesting layout with fast greens
Spirit was a fine course to play at. I got to the course after work and found that a high school team was almost done so I assumed that I would be able to finish 18 with no problem. When I went in the clubhouse to pay, instead of being greeted, I was immediately told that I had to be done by a certain time, somewhat souring my experience from the onset. When I started playing (1 person riding), I flew through the first 5 holes but was immediately halted on 6 and the waiting game started. I ended up finishing 18, but just barely because they turned the sprinklers on while I was on the 18th green. Overall an enjoyable experience.
