Winter conditions
The course is being worked on on multiple holes. A lot of mud and soggy fairway to contend with. There isn’t a clear answer as to where you can drive a cart and where you cannot (some areas are roped off).
I am certain this course will play differently during peak season, but currently I would wait for those issues to get better before attempting a round.
Kearney Hills Feb 2024
For the time of year, the course was in fabulous shape and the greens were true and it was very dry.
Not worth the money
Tee boxes are very rough and the fairway had not been cut in awhile. Not worth $40 to play on a weekend. Only thing that was good were the greens
Showing Some Age
We hadn't played here in a few years (since they quit using GolfNow). It was then one of our favorite "close to home," "subdivision" courses.
Although the amenities are vastly improved (swimming pool, restrooms, restaurant, etc.) the course is no longer getting the professional attention it needs: the fairways need mowing; the bunkers are hard and weedy; and the greens are beginning to dry out.
In addition, you now have to tee off over several yards of rough before getting to the fairway on a couple of holes.
Pace of play was hampered by a grandfather teaching a grandson the subtleties of the game, one of which was not allowing faster players to play through.
It's still a challenging course with many good points, just not the ones that will entice us to play there again.
Great Course for a Great Rate
I have played Canewood multiple times. Pace of Play is always great and it is a fun course!!
Great course with Great Rate
Course is in great condition! Some tee boxes aren’t the best as they are working hard on them but all easily playable. The pace of play was great compared to most weekend rounds in this part of KY.
Steady Decline
Played this course through the years since it opened in early nineties. This course has been on a steady decline in recent years. When Don Wilshire managed and supervised this course, it was in excellent shape. Now it's like playing in a mowed down field. Actually saw someone mowing fairways with regular zero turn mower. Greens are rock hard and do not hold. It's sad to see the course in this bad shape. Save your money and play some where else
Couple’s golf.
First time at Canewood, the staff were very friendly answering questions about the course and giving us tips on what tee boxes to play. The course has doglegs, elevation changes and tree lined fairways. Fairways are in good condition, greens are good with some shuttle breaks, only downside are the sand traps. If I’m every back in Georgetown again I’ll play there. Also the bar and restaurant are in an Historic home built By John Payne and the course is on the 500 acres he settled in the early 1800’s. Thanks again pro shop staff!
Diamond.
Challenging. Space. Great layout. Excellent guest services. Restaurant layout is immaculate. I love how you tee off over the road. They are improving the ladies tee boxes, overall just a phenomenal spot. Pay attention to the signs or you’ll end up finishing early. This just became one of my favorite courses in Kentucky.
Overgrown aerated and slow play
The Fairway was like rough. The rough was like US Open rough. The greens were aerated and sanded. No one said a thing when I checked in. To top things off, I bumped into six players and five carts playing in front of me
Give it a shot
Probably played at the wrong time of season. Tee boxes being reworked and several greens had some black crusty sheen on them. Get theses repaired, it's a neat , tough course. 6200 from near tips, many blind second shots. Like doglegs? They're here. Again finish repairs, really nice , uncrowded course. Try it!!
Good Experience
A few tee boxes and greens a little rough but, overall, can't beat the value. Layout can be deceivingly challenging and pace is usually pretty good. For the price, one of my favorite courses around. Recommend for the average hacker like me...
