Get More Tullymore if you can
Fun golf course with 5 par 5’s and 5 par 3’s. It is very playable and with 5 sets of tees, it can challenge ANY PLAYER! It was quite wet the day I played it, so the greens were a bit slow for my liking, but they were VERY SMOOTH. I was unaware that this was part of a resort until I arrived here. The driving range is small, the putting green is a bit small, and there is not much of a chipping area to speak of. The layout is a Jim Engh design, and I generally don’t care for his work, but this course was an exception. Although, this course has some of his common design elements (wayward shots are funneled toward the target green or fairway) it’s not too prominent. You will have the opportunity to use every club in the bag, and the carts have GPS. If you are on your way traveling from central MI to northern MI, give this course a try, I think you will really enjoy it.
Never thought I would leave with a new course in my TOP 3 in Michigan VERY IMPRESSED!
I was blown away from start to finish, and what I mean by start is even the initial phone call I was treated with such kindness and respect! Without making this long and drawn out Tullymore knocks it out of the park. The best way I could describe it would be if "Pilgrim''s Run somehow got even nicer in every area and moved to Traverse City and that is how you feel as you play Tullymore, IT WAS GOOSEBUMPY! Enjoy and hit em straight because if you get sloppy it can be a long day but if you stay disciplined you can light it up a bit. Only complaint is the greens were basically unplayable because they aerated them and they were just caked in sand so putting was impossible. Would have been nice to know that however we were never told but I also am guessing why it was such a great deal! It didn't take away from my appreciation of this beauty, instead all it did was make me want to come back even faster to see how much better this place could potentially be! ENJOY!
Regards,
Coach O (Grand Rapids Mi)
Family outing
Great condition and course, friendly staff. Pace of play was great. Got 18 hole in under 4 hours.
Nice course
Nice course played from the whites im a higher handicap and never played this course before. Studio i found the layout nice And challenging for my skill level. Course was in decent condition grass was a little burnt but due to the courses not allowed to be staffed over the past few months im sure the course condition will improve overall id love to play again. And the clubhouse is awesome great merchandise as well
Great Guys Weekend Course
First time playing the course and we were not disappointed. Great course and conditions were excellent. Fun and challenging, would definitely go back.
Worth the Drive - Great Course
While moderately challenging to hit fairways most holes have a small preferred landing area that if you miss you may be blocked from the green. The real challenge is the approaches into greens. Most greens are narrow and well guarded by narrow and very deep bunkers. Tullymore is routed through wetland and woods. Tall reeds grow in the wetlands and make the course play more challenging by obstructing views and disturbing depth perception. Tullymore is located in Stanwood, MI and was halfway between Detriot and Traverse City. The course was in immaculate condition and played relatively firm and fast which is surprising for a course with wetlands.
Tullymore Golf Course - 16 buddies trip
The Courses- the courses at Tullymore (Tullymore and St Ives) were absolutely awesome! The course at Tullymore is very challenging, yet fair. The greens and fairways were in excellent condition, and lets be honest folks that's all that really matters. The course at Stives is more rolling hills and tree lined and that course was fun to play and prob 3 or 4 strokes easier than Tullymore. But overall both courses were in good shape.
With 16 guys we elected to reserve to cottages side by side to sleep the 16, and boy was that a perfect setup. Post round you can sit around drink, play cards, walk outside chip and putt, hit the pool or hot tub...it was just a great setup. Bathrooms were clean and functional, beds were clean, I mean as long as your not some country club snob the accommodations are more than good enough.
A ways to go
The course/Staff are outstanding.,but in order to be a world class resort many amenities are lacking. No tees/No bag tags/
No GPS. . The after hour amenities /Staff pale in comparison to what's offered by the golf course/Satf.
Tha people greeting you were not. Friendly or very helpful and the in room facility is tired. However very clean.
Tullymore Golf Club
The Good: Fabulous design from Jim Engh is "Pure Michigan" at its finest. Part of a slowly developing residential community (no houses!!), Tullymore slithers through woodlands and marshes in as peaceful of an arena to play golf you'll find. Superb course conditions and massive, difficult greens that putt pure. Superb Par 5's, great variety in Par 4's, and some nice Par 3's on the closing nine. The signature Engh bunkers are devilish and the sentinel trees are a unique touch. Beautiful Scottish clubhouse with upscale restaurant and bar. Excellent driving range and good putting green. Great staff and on-course hospitality. While steep at $160 during peak season, often has great deals and off-season rates that are absolute steal.
The Bad: Lack of GPS and abundance of yardage markers is an annoyance. Limited signage throughout the course can make your trek on the cart paths a little confusing. The back-to-back Par 3's on the front half are fairly unmemorable. Short game practice area is not accessible by the 1st tee.
The Verdict: Quite simply, a top 5 public golf course in Michigan (which is saying something!). Although it lacks the elevation change of some "up-north" Michigan courses, Tullymore has a visual appeal like no other course in the state. A truly unique, tranquil and fair golf experience for all skill levels. Outstanding!
Best Hole: There are so many great holes that many could be signature holes, but nothing compares to the Par 5 18th. Arguably one of the best closing holes in the Midwest.
Must Play
Great experience! From facilities to the course you will not disappointed. Designer is same as True North in Harbor Springs area. Just go.
Bucket List Course - Tough Track
Tullymore is definitely a bucket list course for any Michigan golfer. There is a reason it is in the Golf Digest top 100 public for so many years running. Conditions are pristine, facilities are top notch, and course is very memorable. In my time playing it i did find the layout of the entire course to be a bit wonky. 3 out of 4 holes on the front nine are par 3s, and the hole inbetween is a very very target golf par 4. There are at least 3 other target golf par 4s that i thought effected the playability and enjoyment i had. It was def a players course, very strategic. Course plays very difficult for the first time player. By the end of my rounds i was happy it was over, but also intrigued to play again as i felt i had a better idea of how to play the course. Would def recommend this course to anyone. Could possible be one of the cheapest rounds inside the Golf Digest Top 100 Public
Will be back
Tulleymore and St. Ives great courses and accmendations even better, great well trained staff.
Thank you Marty
Awesome course
The course was groomed and a pleasure to play. The staff was outstanding and accommodating. I would recommend this course to everyone who is a serious player and enjoys a well maintained venue.
Awesome course!
Course was in excellent condition as usual, pace of play on the Friday and Saturday I played was excellent (both rounds less than 4 hours). Clubhouse facilities were excellent and the staff, starters and rangers were friendly. Some might find it a bit pricey in prime season but worth it.
Awesome design
We played Tullymore GC on November 2nd. That time of year is iffy whether you will get good playing conditions. I was very pleased with the conditions! Greens were pretty fast and rolled smooth. Fairways were cut short and plenty forgiving from the tee. Five sets of tees makes it playable for everyone. This is Jerry Matthews best design by far. Fun course to play and I highly recommend it to all!
Really enjoyed views and wildlife.
$22 through golf now on 10/31/2013, great way to see this wonderful course for the first time. I will definitely pay more to see in its full bloom of summer. Fairwys great, rough fair to the player and greens challenging but roll very nice.
Great course.
We had a great time. We have played other courses in the area this time of year and found a lot of leaves on fairways and greens but not on the Tullymore. The course was very well maintained and I loved the greens.
