Doesn’t Disappoint
Great course. Pace of play was good not great. Excellent shape greens were quick
Best track I’ve been on
The course was perfect green very fast great layout Bunkers a little hard packed but that’s minor
Fun course
Fun course to play. Pretty straight forward, no hidden dangers. 7,000 yards from the tips but only 127 slope (huh?), so it’s not too difficult - just long. Fun part was I had to hit clubs I normally don’t ever hit into greens. Course was in great shape, greens are large and beautifully maintained. Sand is too thin, dirt not sand.
Great experience on a fun to play course
From the initial arrival at Bag drop to the end of cart return, the staff was friendly, efficient and willing to help my day be fun. The practice facilities are very good and the quality of the carts are excellent. The pace of play was very good, we finished under 4 hours without any issues. The quality of the course was very good, the only thing from excellent was some of the bunkers were hard without some sand where others were very good. The design of the course was very good, very playable and definitely subject to low scores. Highly recommend for all players and the lower handicaps should be able to,challenge themselves playing from the tips.
Simply fun
Play a very good course that is well maintained. Play was not bad but a ranger is needed. Not too far from the city. Play and enjoy!!!!!
Enjoy This Course
Caught this one on a Hot Deal during the winter season. Had the usual fun round as when I play this during the summer. Staff from the pro shop to the starter are all super friendly and competent. The practice area is first rate, the fairways and greens are all in top shape, and the surrounding desert environment is very tranquil and relaxing. Feels like you have stepped away from life for few hours.
Condition of course and pace of play
The course was in excellent shape and we played our round in less than four hours!! It was a nice day.
Solid Course
The Course was in great condition - Greens, Fairways and Bunkers all near perfect condition. I've played the other course (cattail) and liked this layout a little better, there is one hole where you have the option to choose which fairway to go after - a wider fairway leaving a longer approach or the narrower fairway leaving a shorter approach. Everything about the experience from the staff to amenities to the golf was solid, only complaint would be that its overpriced a bit
Go Yotes
Greens rolled at an 8 on the stimp meter pretty good for just after the overseed.
I like the layout of Cattail over Devils claw but both are always in great shape.
Good experience.
Starter was nice, Pro shop staff friendly. Pulled up to unload clubs, nobody there. I unloaded clubs, bag guy ignored me because the cart girl showed up. Go figure. Guy that cleaned my clubs was nice and got his tip. Course had just opened from reseeding. Fairways were nice, greens medium speed but nice and good roll.. Course was green and beautiful. Pace was good. Paired with two guys that were very friendly. good experience.
great course
course was in great shape. Had a great time playing. Staff was outstanding
great course to play
had some water standing on few holes after the rain storm on Sunday but in great condition
we enjoyed playing and will come back on next trip to AZ
Excellent
Great Course, fantastic condition, shame about the people who throw their rubbish on the fairways and do not rake bunkers....Marshall's needed to keep pace of play and cleanliness up on such a good venue. Would not stop me coming back and certainly worth a visit...
Great Course but Often not worth the Price
The layouts on both courses are in front of you.......not much to em.....The Devils Claw has more appealing holes and sight lines in my opinion but both are not going to cause better players any grief.
The conditions although visually appealing are always a bit to soft.....especially the greens.....they are way too slow and need to be firmed up and rolled. Puts from myself and the players I was joined up with were bouncing all over the place. And I’ve had the same issue with the greens here before as well. I understand you got to keep it watered to keep it green, but the colour of the grass shouldn’t sacrifice playability.
The main negative I have for these courses is that they always ask for too much money for their green fees. During the off-season you can play courses like Verrado, Troon North, Wildfire, Ambiente, Etc for the same price......and those courses are another level.
I understand it’s part of the resort/casino so they jack up the rates but at the end of the day there are much better courses for around the same price.
Devil’s Claw on Labor Day
The course was in very condition for being this late in the summer. Pace of play was great as we finished just over 4 hours. We had lunch afterward and the food was very good and the prices were appropriate for the area.
Great outing
Course conditions were very good, especially for late summer. Nice practice facilities included . We play here a few times a year and are never disappointed. Summer rate made it even better . Played the round just over four hours, pretty good for a Sunday .
Great course
Devils claw was well maintained and beautiful!!! Hot summer day but survived by playing early. Great value at $40 summer price. Very high in prime season.
Average At Best
Devils Claw is a great layout however, this is the worst condition I've seen the course since I started playing it four years ago. Every hole has areas of dead (brown) grass in the fairway / around the greens which come into play and can / will play a huge factor on where the ball ends up. Course seems to be overwatered in some areas, including areas of dead (brown) grass. Greens were good, but putting slower than usual.
Summer golf for courses in Arizona can be brutal, but Whirlwind always seemed to have some of the best course conditions of any course around. Not this summer. Still, the course is playable, but temper your expectations.
