A risk and reward course if you hit your shots
Tons of elevation changes up and down. Played the whites which are only 5800 but still had to hit certain shots. The forced carry’s are reasonable and the fairways lush. The greens are a little slow but consistent and once you get use to them they roll true. There are two or three tricked holes where someone with local knowledge can help you aim your tee shots. The traps are pretty decent, were some rocks in a couple bunkers I found. I love the 18th hole the best! That 2nd or 3rd shot is a blast
Fabulous course
Outstanding scenery and beautiful views. The course is in great shape; our round was a little slow but understandable with the layout. Pro Shop staff was great as was the restaurant/bartender staff.
Tough course but beautiful
We paid a lot to play this course and there was no help from the staff at the bag drop coming in or leaving. The landscapers were on many of the holes and did not stop when we were hitting. It was a gorgeous course but I was very disappointed at the lack of personnel to assist us on such an expensive course.
Great Course tough conditions
We make it a point to play here each time we're in the Sedona area. Very challenging course, but not terribly long even from the back tees considering the altitude. Unfortunately this time, the course was in the worst shape we've seen. Winter kill on lots of the greens and as a result, most were still coming out of the winter season. Difficult to make putts when your balls bounces left to right and back all the way to the hole. I will note the speed of the greens are consistent. The challenge of this course should be the forced carries and the elevation change from tee to green, not the greens themselves. I would also note that the rough right now is probably as difficult as anything an amateur would want to play. Fairly long and sticky if you miss the fairway or the greens. Based on our past experience, the greens will be back sometime soon. This is a wonderful course and I would recommend playing it if you're in the area. The challenge of the course is one any good golfer would love.
SO SAD
WE DRIVE HERE FROM SURPRISE WHEN IT GETS HOT IN THE VALLEY. LOVE THE CHALLENGE OF THE COURSE. BUT “SO SAD” SEEING THE SHAPE IT IS IN NOW. GUESS THE COLD WEATHER HIT IT HARD THIS YEAR. WE WILL BE BACK
Great potential
Typical spring condition with greens and fairways that still hadn't fully grown in from being aerated. Lots of elevation changes following the natural topography making it an interesting and challenging layout. Looking forward to playing it again.
Winter took its toll on this course
Love the layout here but the winter was definitely tough on the course. Many tees and some fairways were in rough shape.
Stellar course even better staff!
This was hands down the most challenging course I have played. With that being said the whole experience started off with a great staff being beyond friendly and helpful. They help you understand the course and even provide a book that had details about each shot. They helped make sure my wife and I who was celebrating our anniversary wasn’t paired with the single player in front of us. They went above and beyond.
As for the course lots of elevation changes from tee boxes to fairways to the greens added a depth of challenge I have not faced. Hitting from tee boxes of desert landscape at first was nerve racking however, reading the book and making shots that are suggested helped ease that. The scenery is beautiful mountains, hills, and even snow caps off on the distance. Hole 18 is a beast with two turns a left then a right all dropping a lot in elevation it will eat you up if not careful! Would highly recommend to anyone wanting to step out of comfort wide open fairways and step into something that will make you question each and every shot.
Beach Sand
Not sure why they decided to just dump beach sand into their bunkers but it is impossible to play out of them. Being from Florida I’ve never had a desire to go to the beach and hit wedges. Luckily for me Stonegate allowed me that privilege. Not all of their bunkers are this way. Mostly the back on holes where they “improved” their bunkers. Bad decision.
Great Views
Great views at this course. Some nice extras like yardage books. Course was well kept. They booked too many players so it was hit and wait, hit and wait. Lots of elevation.
