Old Corkscrew Golf Club

About
Carved from forests of towering oaks and pines, Old Corkscrew Golf Club exhibits all of the superior characteristics that define Nicklaus Signature courses. The absence of houses around the golf course adds to the secluded and peaceful feel that is provided by the dense thickets of trees that surround it. Jack Nicklaus himself was a prominent presence throughout every phase of the course's construction, incorporating well balanced holes that vary in direction, look, and feel. Proper club selection will be greatly rewarded on this golf course. The fast-paced, undulating greens sit up to 20 feet above the lush, rolling fairways, which can create some tricky pin placements if you're not careful. Old Corkscrew Golf Club's fairways are rather generous, but they are framed by carefully sculpted bunkers. Several large ponds come into play on nearly every hole and there are also numerous sand traps strategically placed along the greensides.

Old Corkscrew
When we visit the area golfing always play Old Corkscrew as it’s a fabulous layout and possibly one of the most difficult but enjoyable courses to play. Played off the blue tees which is around 6,400 yards and it was more than playable. Tees and fairways were in excellent condition. However, the greens unfortunately not to the standard you’d expect from Old Corkscrew or other similar nearby courses. The greens have been subjected to some type of disease which has caused many of them to be patched. Not all greens are affected but those are being protected so when the others have recovered they will be okay. Overall it didn’t affect our enjoyment but we know the greens will recover soon. When back we’ll play Old Corkscrew again.
Maintenance crews and watering
I understand the course is currently undergoing changes due to a lack of prior maintenance, which we were aware of at the time of booking. Since I’m not much of a putter, the condition of the greens didn’t impact my experience significantly. However, we frequently had to wait on the grounds crew to finish maintenance at the tee boxes, mow the fairways and greens, and in several cases, wait for sprinklers to stop running—this was around 11:30 in the afternoon.
This is a fantastic course that I’ve enjoyed many times in the past. That said, the grounds crew should be more mindful of players and show greater respect for the flow of the game.
Great layout. Bad greens
The course has a great layout but the greens were in horrific shape. Many greens had sod patches on them where grass had died and they were very slow. If you are going to charge that kind of money to play a golf course it needs to be in good condition. I would blame a lot on the draught but I played 3 other courses in the area this week, all less expensive, and they were in great condition.
Review for April 25th
I played this course last year at end of May, course was in much better shape then. That being said, it’s the end of the season and it’s been very dry past month. The staff was also upfront in advising a few greens were struggling with the fungus issues (hence the discounted fee).
Overall the course is very scenic and fun to play. It does seem that the maintenance is struggling on several areas which appears to have changed since I played last year.
Staff was extremely pleasant and helpful for anything needed. Some help from Mother Nature and some improved maintenance will get it back to where it belongs.
Greens
Greens were in horrible shape. To charge that kind of money for the condition they are in is nuts. I love the place fun. But you can’t charge that with these greens
Not the Same
Unfortunately, Old Cork Screw is not what I remember. I have not played it for 3 years. terrible condition through out. Looks like an over played Muni.
Terrible greens
I was shocked how bad the greens were, not worth the money they’re trying to charge. Local muni’s are in better shape. Diasporas I usually enjoy playing here.
Old corkscrew
Unfortunately the course condition were very poor as they apparently had a fungus that attacked the greens and some of the tees. We were not aware of this issue before teeing off which I feel they should have told us.
Old greens and screwed
You never told us the greens were still damaged from Hurricane Milton. Fairways wear not plush as a Jack Nicklaus course should be and the greens were the worst I’ve played on in Southwest Florida. Bare spots, no grass, and little “speed” bumps all over the greens. They are redoing everything next year, but in meantime you got us screwed on Old Corkscrew.
We called you after, you did nothing. It was a waste of time.
Everything good except the greens
I would shut this course down and the greens completely re done. No where in their website does it say anything about not being able to put or record a handicap score.
What a shame
I played Old Corkscrew and should have asked for a refund. While the layout, the staff, the pace of play were just fine, the greens were abysmal. 5 greens were totally unplayable. 4 greens were adequate (yet the pace of the greens was miserably slow) and 9 greens were almost acceptable for a muni course.
Before we began the starter stated that one or two greens were in tough shape but by the time we played our 4 hole, we found 4 greens in bad shape. Our entire group wondered how could a course this well maintained from tee to green be saddled with greens with large patches of sand, holes and replaced sod.
As per the advertising at the facility, the course is going to go"private" in 2026. I cannot think of one person I know would join a club with this type of greens.
What a shame.
Greens were very bad shape
Seven greens were basically sand, poor conditions on greens due to I believe fungus.
We should have been informed of this.

Thank you for playing Old Corkscrew. We understand your disappointment. Our grounds crew and superintendent are hard at work daily to improve the greens. We have lowered our price (originally $275 this time of year) to make it more fair. We thank you for your patience and hope to see you soon.
Thank you for playing Old Corkscrew. We understand your frustration. Unfortunately we were hit by a fungus on some of our greens last year. Our grounds crew is hard at work to improve the greens. Old Corkscrew will close for a couple of months next year to renovate before going private. In the meantime the crew is hard at work daily to fix the greens. We thank you for your patience and hope to see you soon.
