Yikes!
Played Saltleaf, The "REVISED" Raptor Bay yesterday. Point of reference- Raptor Bay was an Audubon site. The environmental beauty, wildlife, and enjoyable golf course were astounding.
The new course has decimated the natural beauty , contour, and visual appeal of Raptor Bay. Despite the marketing, we saw 3 birds- 2 of which were crows.
The course is dull. There are no sand traps. The greens are fast and true, But won't hold an approach shot. On the day we played, 15 mph winds, the pins were tucked in places that one could not access. Monotonous chips to elevated pins.
I understand that this is "new". It will take years for this course to look better, but the look will not improve the quality of the course. Very obvious that they are hoping that the impending high rise/ high cost development next door will generate a group of golfers willing to pay exorbitant fees to play a mediocre track.
Departing messages-(1) the destruction of the natural beauty and environmentally protected area is unconscionable. (2) I'm not unwilling to pay for quality golf. This is the priciest ticked in SW Fl, . Yikes!!
Salt Leaf: Good Course/ Priced too High
Was impressed with the new layout as I had previously played Raptor Bay and found out to my surprise that this layout was totally different.
Gave the course 5 stars as everything exceeded my expectations. Not very forgiving if you miss the fairways. Greens are excellent.
Priced too high to get me back unless they run some specials
Say no to Ray
I was very disappointed in the new Salt Leaf design by Ray Floyd. The course has no real character except stacked sod hills on the sides of a few fairways. The course has the most non discernible par threes, mostly just mounded greens. He could have used some of the stacked sod look around the greens. Not a bunker on the course. The 4th hole a par four is the worst, it has a 20 yard wide landing area unless you fly the ball 240 yards. The course has many parallel fairways, looks like they saved all the extra land for Realestate sales. The courses practice facility has only a small netted range with matts and no chipping area. Good luck if you are selling memberships.
Signed disappointing
Great Pro Shop
There was no one in front or behind us. Often felt like we were the only ones there. Found out later they don’t have a warning horn for lightening. It’s a play at your own risk! We often heard thunder in the distance. Plenty of opportunities for food and water. The dining inside was lovely. My husband’s birthday so I bought him a hat.
Outstanding experience!!
1st time playing Saltleaf Preserve. The course is in excellent shape and is very enjoyable to play no matter what your handicap is. Great layout from start to finish not to mention you pass by the snack and beverage hut which was a big plus for our crew. Great food after our round in the clubhouse bar. Staff is great and we will definitely be back.
New Resort Course
course is essentially brand new, but great condition overall. no issues with pace, staff was very friendly and helpful. played the short course after my round, which was fun! i would go back!
Excellent conditions, beautiful surroundings
Very friendly staff. Excellent course conditions (perhaps the best conditioned greens I have ever played in my life). Fun risk/reward with drivable greens, dog legs. I found the green complexes a bit boring. Predominantly flat, really no bunkers around the greens.
Disappointing
A previous fan of Raptor Bay, but found Salt Leaf to be a major disappointment - no range, boring back nine, play interrupted by sprinklers mid round. A very poor value proposition, I doubt there will be a lot of repeat play at current rates. Sorry to be negative, but as noted, a major disappointment. On a positive note the playing surfaces were very good for a new facility.
Awesome course!
Immaculate new layout! Was challenging, yet playable. Love the sod walls!! Pace was great, 4some played in under 3:50!!!
Get Course SWFL
This was the first time I've played this course. I loved raptor bay but this new course is absolutely amazing.
Elite Course
Can’t say enough good things about this course. The conditions and greens were perfect. Staff was fantastic and the pace of play was great. Worth every penny.
Would recommend
Course was in great shape love the new layout from raptor bay. Would recommend. You also get a hat and cup with your round.
