Red Tail Run Golf Club
About
Red Tail Run Golf Club is situated on the south side of Decatur, Ill. The course stretches across open, gently rolling land where the bird that the club was named after, the Red Tail Hawk, circles freely overhead. Designed by PGA Hall of Famer Raymond Floyd, the golf course features large, undulating greens and wide, rolling fairways. Native prairie grasses also accent the landscape, adding to the layout's level of difficulty. At 5,651 yards, the golf course isn't terribly long but the openness of the landscape means that your round will be subject to the wind. Depending on how it's blowing, it can play much longer. Red Tail Run Golf Club has a mix of challenging and player-friendly holes, giving the course appeal for players of all skill levels. Red Tail Run also has a driving range available for warming up.

Nice course
Nice course layout, wide fairways but you don’t want to miss them or you will lose balls., greens in good shape, large and numerous sand traps, quite a few doglegs. Overall very enjoyable mix of difficulty levels.
Well Maintained! Excellent Shape!
This was a wonderful surprise for a
Municipal course. Well maintained and manicured.
Red Tail continues to over book golf now tee times. You show up and have a fivesome. The staff are not very friendly, and have never been for years. They told me that they were booked heavy and that I would have to wait until 12:20 tee time to go. Watched for a half hour saw one couple go, and then we have a fivesome, although the other two went ahead and played behind us, it turned out ok.
a true golfers course by Ray Floyd
this is a challenging course especially from the tips from which I played. course is set up where you must carry your drives or be looking at large oak trees. so choosing right tee box on this course will make or break you. 2 of the par threes are pro level at over 230 yards each and uphill. again play the right tees. course was in great shape, staff friendly and price right. will be back to play this gem.
Toughest par 3 around
You get a little bit of everything on this course ,linksstyle and woodsy back nine. Number 17 par 3 is a challenge about 185 yds, up hill and almost always into the wind plays more like 200 with long sloping green. Usually 20 to 30 mph winds all day long.
A fun course!
I really like this course and enjoy playing it. The double green ... #13 and #16 is a great feature! The front nine is very much "Links style", while the back nine has lots of trees and water. I always enjoy this course and recommend to everyone!
A beautiful walk spoiled.
Add this golf course to your bucket list. Open fairways, but challenging finishes. Beautiful countryside course. The front nine are “dry”, but the back nine has a few water hazards. The sand traps and fairway bunkers will challenge you. The course is in great condition, even in Mid- November. The fast food bar, pro shop, restrooms and staff were great. The golf carts, tee box equipment, etc. was well maintained. For a care-free golfing experience on a moderately challenging course, put Red Tail on you list.
Always a great course
Greens r great fairways great. Always n great shape. A little pricey for Decatur
Great Layout
Greens were fast and true. Fairways outstanding. Rough was pretty tough but fair and fairways wide. Nobody on course. Played entire course in a little over 2 hours. Always enjoy playing this course.
Amazing
Course condition always perfect a ton of old and new golfers that are wonderful to meet and play with and always great seeing Turtle and his staff hard at work and willing to help you out with whatever your case is they always go above and beyond always love returning to Red Tail.
Great Course!!
Red Tail is a great golf course. There are many different types of challenging holes among the woods.
Holes 15 and 17 are very interesting to finish your round. It is easy to lose a ball in the high grass but easy to hit out of it if you find it.
We had a great time and a lot of fun.We plan on going back soon!
Challenging course in great shape
This course is a top course in central Illinois. Very challenging, but a fair course. Great shape
the layout of the course was great
the layout of the course was great. fairways in great condition , the tall grasses prove to be challenging. overall really liked it will be back.
Making Very Good Progress
Greens were very smooth. Fairways used to be very sparse but are filling in nicely.
Better than most
My golf group have now played all 3 of the public courses in Decatur in the last 12 months. This is the newest and the best of the 3. The clubhouse is nice and the staff very hospitable.
The course is in great shape and was as challenging as we had been told. The Golf Now rates made it affordable for us to play and we will probably return.
If you haven't played the Decatur courses you owe it to yourself to play them.
