About
Red Tail Run Golf Club is situated on the south side of Decatur, Ill. The course stretches across open, gently rolling land where the bird that the club was named after, the Red Tail Hawk, circles freely overhead. Designed by PGA Hall of Famer Raymond Floyd, the golf course features large, undulating greens and wide, rolling fairways. Native prairie grasses also accent the landscape, adding to the layout's level of difficulty. At 5,651 yards, the golf course isn't terribly long but the openness of the landscape means that your round will be subject to the wind. Depending on how it's blowing, it can play much longer. Red Tail Run Golf Club has a mix of challenging and player-friendly holes, giving the course appeal for players of all skill levels. Red Tail Run also has a driving range available for warming up.

Course was in excellent condition today. Bunkers were great to play out of unfortunately was in them too many times. Greens were very receptive with a good shot.

Nice golf course
The staff are friendly and prompt service, clean and spacious bathroom. The golf course has a nice lay out, but I got lost looking for the #16 hole you have to go through the woods, so pay close attention.
Great course!!
The course was maintained very well! It is a great course for the average golfer, as well as the experienced golfer. It rained quite a bit the few days before we played, but besides a few damp spots it drained unbelievably well! Overall one of my favorite courses to play now!!

Quality challenging course! Won't find a nicer public course
Very challenging - Great
New Greenskeeper came several years ago and the course has improved greatly. Greens roll nicely but never seem to break as much as one would read. Play it from the Blue or Black and it's all you'd want in a course..........especially if the wind is blowing a little bit.
Great course
I love playing at Red Tail, love the design of the course and the playability of it.. Really wish the greens were a bit nicer, just to many ball repair marks.
Would love to see some pot bunkers placed in areas around the course to give it more of Scottish links look..

Great day for golf!
Arrived early for our tee time and they let us go ahead and start early as it was not crowded at all. The ranger came to find us for our cart number and signature and was very nice and polite. All the rangers were friendly. It was just my husband and I and it was a very enjoyable day of play. We didn't feel hurried. The grounds were very well kept. The only thing we didn't much care for were the tee boxes. The grass they have there is very soft and you need longer tees in order for it to be stable to set the ball on. It was a great value for the price!
Bugs
Take bug spray! Bugs flying into your ear during the middle of your backswing is very distracting.
Very easy to very difficult
Most of the holes are flat with wide fairways. The 4 holes created from the old par 3 are very difficult and completely different from the rest of the course . Pace of play is slow. Course is well maintained.
Much improved
When course was new it was a great layout but grass was thin. Man have things changed. Hear there is a new superintendent and the conditioning was excellent. Fast, true greens, plush fairways and thick rough. Highly recommended.

Check-in was smooth and we got out on the course without delay. Very impressed with th ease of making the reservation.
A challenge full of character
This was a great course. Perhaps most impressive was the way the course was managed. Pro shop attendants were polite and informative. $5 lunch buffet is a great idea - quick, tasty, and plentiful. The course was challenging and full of character. Will definitely be returning to this little jewel in Decatur.
Very good course layout
Great Hot Deal on this course and able to play in just about 3 1/2 hours! The fairways were well maintained and the greens were in good shape also.
Needs work.
recent green aeration with no notice to golfers. When you find out it is too late. Needs work. Staff was not very friendly toward using golfnow.
