Windswept Dunes Golf Course
About
Windswept Dunes Golf Club tumbles across a dramatic landscape covered with white sand dunes accented by lush green fairways. The golf course appeals to players of all skill levels thanks to player-friendly features that are balanced by strategically placed hazards. Although each hole shares the characteristic of being lined with dunes, they each maintain a unique character. The rolling fairways are often wide and generous off the tee and the sand dunes, which stretch from tee too green, are only punishing of the most errant of shots. The approach shots though are as demanding as the tee shots are forgiving. There are numerous bunkers fiercely guarding the large, smooth greens. While the occasional water hazard comes into play, the bunkers are the most challenging element of Windswept Dunes Golf Club.

Awesome track!
Quick ride from Grayton Beach area. Total gem of a course. Pretty basic clubhouse, but staff was very accommodating. The golf course was in superb shape, greens rolled true, but not super fast. Theres plenty of undulation on these large greens and the surrounding run off areas will challenge every aspect of your short game. Tee shots seem visually intimidating, but are actually very forgiving once you see the width of the fairways. Loved the layout and the combination of challenge/ forgiveness. Overall, very pleased and I will be back!
Amazing Experience!
The most beautiful Course I have ever played on. You felt like you were the only one on the course on every hole. Scenic and Panoramic views on every hole. A hidden gem in the Destin, Florida area. Well worth the half hour drive out of Destin to play this course. The name of the course describes it perfectly!
Great Course - Must Play
Panama City Beach is my 2nd Home. So I play several courses in the PCB and Destin areas throughout the year. With no hesitation, I can say this is my favorite course. The course conditions are always great, the course is very challenging, and the staff is great. A must play for everyone from my perspective. I am a single digit handicapper and I absolutely love this place. A little remote but worth the drive. Give it a try - you will be back.
Gem in the panhandle
I played Windswept Dunes early Sunday morning. Course was in great a condition. Very nice layout and not overly crowded. It is a little ways from the beach but worth the drive. i will definitely play there again. This is a GEM. I suggest you play it before the secret gets out.
Home Course
I have played most of the courses around PCB and Destin and without a doubt this course is my favorite. I own a condo in PCB and there are courses that are closer but this course is worth the little longer drive. The course condition just continues to improve year after year. The staff is working hard to make it a preferred course to play and it shows. This has become my home course in PCB and really the only one I play after trying the rest. Do yourself a favor and give it a try. I think you will love it.
Hidden Gem
My wife and I played this hidden gem today. What a great experience!! Staff very friendly and helpful. Course in excellent shape, every bit as good as the course we played in Sandestin earlier in the week at 3 times the price. Greens were in great shape if a bit slow. Huge and well contoured. Fairways wide but bunkers strategically placed for the errant shot.We only saw one foursome and one single the whole afternoon. Finished our round in 3 1/2 hours. Going back tomorrow!

Widest fairways you will ever play in your life. Course was in decent shape except the greens were way slower than the other 6 courses we played in Florida. If you love to bomb it, this is your course. If you like fast greens, go somewhere else. I would only suggest this course if you are in need of a warmup or have time to kill before flying out of panama city.
Better be a good putter
After 12 years of being open you think they would be out of trailor house for pro shop snack bar
Big greens took fun out of putting
Greens did not roll very good for weather we had this winter in area
Big fairways so accurate drives are not necessary
Guy in pro shop could take a customer service class
Thought rates were a little high
Worth the Drive
I don't usually get too excited about residential community courses, but this course is so well tucked away among its dunes and pine trees that you rarely remember that you're in a neighborhood. The fairways are wide, but the rough is thick enough that you pay for keeping it off the short stuff. Greens rolled very pure. And at this price, it's a no-brainer.
Great experience
Must play for anyone in Destin/Panama Beach area. Big fairways and greens and well maintained. Great service. Don't expect a fancy clubhouse just a great golf experience.
Hidden Gem
Windswept Dunes is nothing short of a hidden gem. Played this course on Father's Day off of a recommendation from fellow golfers I joined up with around the area. Wow. Am I glad that I did! Amazing course. A little odd itself with the clubhouse being a simple trailer, but the course itself is nothing short of amazing. No off course amenities as far as snack carts or anything, so take a few waters with you. If going for just pure golf though, the layout, course conditions, and course itself are amazing. Play the correct yardage tees for your game as this course is all you'll want. A little out of the way for Destin stayers, but if around the area and don't mind the drive. Well worth the round.
Well worth the drive
Played this course while on vacation in PCB. Course was in perfect condition, wide fairways and very large greens. Don't waste your time and money at the local PCB courses, this course is head and shoulders above those. We can't wait to get back down there to play it again.
Best course on the emerald coast
This is a great risk/reward golf course. The longest course in FL according to the USGA. Not a lot of water on the course but they make up for it with sand. The fairways are wide and the greens are huge. What makes this course challenging is the length. I played the Ocean tees and even on 250 yard drives, I was hitting 5 irons into the greens. You have multiple options off the tee box as far as your line and how far you want to hit it. The greens are rolling and expect multiple breaks if you do not hit it close. This is a newer golf course so there is not a lot of development which I enjoy. I believe they are still waiting to build the permanent club house. Would not recommend walking as there are some distance between holes.
Great shape
Played this course two consecutive days because of the great conditions and best price for a course of this quality for miles around.
Florida panhandle hidden gem
Have now played Windswept Dunes four times in the last three years. Each time I enjoy it more. Course conditions excellent, staff friendly, prices best in the area. Well worth the tweety minute commute from 30A lodgings. This course is better than Kelly Plantation, Regatta Bay, the sandestin courses, all put together! Good range, no crowds, excellent greens, great pace of play--all that a vacationing golfer could want!
Off The Beaten Path
There are several very good courses in the Florida Panhandle area, but there are few better than Windswept Dunes. I chose this course over several others with great reviews, including the Camp Creek course which is rated as one of the top 30 courses in Florida (no small feat in a state with over 1,200 golf courses). It's a bit of a hike from the beach, sitting above Choctawatchee Bay in Freeport, but once you get there, you'll know why you came. A small modest parking lot and double wide trailer (so many courses have those - the promise of the grand clubhouse falls short...) clubhouse belie the course you're about to play. The driving range is nice and along the way to the first hole. I got to the first tee and was joined by a gentleman who actually works at the course - he was playing on his off day - so I got GREAT advice and a lot of information. HERE IS YOUR FIRST WARNING - Choose the right tees. There are 6 tee boxes to choose from - choose wisely or you'll have a LONG day. And I really mean LONG as this Doug O'Rourke design is one of if not THE longest course in Florida maxing out at 7752 yards from the Championship tees. I made the huge mistake of trying the course from the Tournament tees which is one forward from the back - at 7295 yards that's too much course for my skill level. But it was still a fun try. Second warning - don't even imagine walking this course. You may only play it at say 5700 yards but the course measures 7700 yards so you still would have to walk that extra 2000 yards... and there are several tees which are a hike from the previous green. The course is not overly hilly, but there is enough movement to the land that coupled with the long yardage, it's not a walkers course.
The course winds through high dunes, some as high as nearly 20 feet, in the piney hills of Northwest Florida. It's far enough off the path that they don't get a ton of play even though the course is gorgeous. A couple of guys who had played Camp Creek (which is pretty private but does allow occasional outside play) said Windswept Dunes was completely the equal of Camp Creek, and at a tremendously better price point. I paid about $70 on a Monday to play there and it's worth that, maybe more.
The course opens with a long par 4 with bunkers down the side - get used to that because there are bunkers on or along basically every hole on the course. It's a tough start with the number 5 handicap hole. They beat you up pretty good with the first 3 holes all being in the top 9 hardest on the course, but then relent on the next 3 holes. There are a few houses around the course, but the planned development of the subdivision stalled so there are roads to nowhere. The houses don't encroach on the course for the most part, so that's not an issue. And it's a broad shouldered course - there is room to miss in many places, but recovery isn't always easy... The back 9 felt a little easier than the front - it's about 167 yards shorter than the front. The fairways and greens were immaculate the day I played. The staff was welcoming and friendly. My partner was the best - I learned much about the course and he played it very well.
The signature hole is difficult to pinpoint. There isn't any one "wow" hole on the course as they are all really solid holes in their own right. The par 5 8th hole is picturesque and challenging, as is the par 4 15th, a cut as much as you dare to dogleg left par 4.
If you ever venture to the Florida Panhandle area this course is an absolute MUST play. There are quite a few of those in the Destin/Panama City area, but there are none quite on this level.
Great Course in Destin Area
Been going to Destin for vacation last 5 years and played several nice courses. This one definitely ranks up there, eventhough its a little bit of a drive and in the middle of nowhere. Barely had cell phone reception
The course itself was awesome. Plenty of tee boxes for all levels. Fairways are beautiful and some of them are pretty wide so easy to hit. But beware of the greens....they roll very nice but these are the biggest and undulated greens I have ever seen. You can easily 3-putt on every single hole if you don't pay attention to pin placement.
One of the best.
Worth the drive. Excellent conditions. Didn't found a bad spot any where.
A Must Play and Worth the Drive from anywhere
I took a risk, because I don't normally pay more than $40 for a round of golf, but with the twilight rate starting at noon of $52 I went ahead. Best money ever spent on a round of golf. I loved this golf course, and give it my highest rating. There is no clubhouse, as they are operating out of a converted mobile home, but from a pure golf experience this is as good as it gets. If this course were close to anything on planet earth they'd be able to charge three times as much. If you are even within an hours drive of this course you must do yourself the favor of making the drive. You won't regret it. Also, you need a cart for this course as there is great distances between every hole. Definitely can't walk this one.
Nice course!
A bit out in the middle of nowhere, but a nice track. Wide fairways. Greens were pretty fast the day I played. It was also fairly empty, so no real idea about the usual pace of play, but i did it in under 3 hours.
