I shoulda checked before scheduling.
After committing to play, I find that it is "cart path only" when I arrive at the course. This course is quite hilly and involves a lot of uphill and downhill walking even if you hit the fairway every time.
Some holes could've easily accommodated cart travel. Other holes had moist areas -- those holes could be "cart path only." So the two of us, 82 and 87 year old guys got quite a workout. But the kicker is that, evidently, that cart path only rule only applies to those of us who are not property owners. The threesome behind us were using self-owned carts and were NOT adhering to "cart path only." The takeaway? -- check beforehand as to the course conditions. I didn't. BTW.....the course is NOT walkable.
GREENS HAVE BEEN PUNCH!!!
All in all it was it nice round with good weather. Although it would have been nice to of had a heads up that the greens had been punched 7 days ago. Might try it again in a few weeks after greens heal up.
I recommend calling the clubhouse and asking about the greens b4 you pay to play in the next 2 weeks, cause they wont bring it up to ya in conversation
Beautiful!
Every tee shot is worthy of a post card. Had the course to myself. Perfect day.
Id recommend a bright colored ball in the fall. Lost lots of balls off the edge of the fairway.
Great fall colors Great variety of holes
We enjoyed our round. We played there in 2021. It was fun to know where to hit it! We will be back !!
Stonehaven
The course is very challenging & not a place for beginners to play., The changes in elevation were amazing. This is not a course you can walk. Golf cart only.. There were many blind tee shots so you need to play the course with someone who knows the layout. The greens were a bit firm so you could not go for pins. I look forward to playing the course again. I got a great rate for the round on the Golf Now web site.
Rained on first 9
Rained 7 out of 9 holes then let up and quit on 11 but the course played well even soaked. Would like to play again.
Disappointed
Very beautiful course in very good condition! The views and course layout is excellent as well. But for $100 plus for a round of golf, I was disappointed to find out when I got there, due to a falling out between ownerships of the golf course and the resort, there is not a clubhouse. Additionally, the course could not sell anything so we played 18 holes in the heat with one bottle of water which they did provide before we started. During the round the course of play was not supervised or managed very well. First nine holes was played in 2 hours but waited on every shot coming in and the final 9 holes took over 3 hours 15 minutes to complete. In fairness, play was partially affected by cart path only rule due to the heavy rains the previous days. But over 3 hours for 9 holes is just too slow.
Would definitely play again if they get business issues solved, provide clear instructions to location of course, a clubhouse, place to get something to eat or drink, etc. Until then I wouldn’t recommend.
Great day for golf
The course was in really good condition for winter conditions. The weather was really nice but it was cart path only. That was the only thing that I didn’t like about the round.
A very enjoyable track
I enjoy sound reviews that are relevant to the quality of the conditions on the golf course.
I’ll do my best.
Course-
Spectacular topography flows comfortably through 18 holes, there are no holes begging to fit within the design.
Green Complexes are stellar, very healthy, usually fast but November Golf means November green speed, shaggy tee boxes and fairways.
Understood going in, rating it in November, Solid 9/10.
I have never cared about staff, restaurant menu, pace of play, etc. Give the best available conditions whenever possible.
Well designed mountain course
This course was well designed with great views and challenging play. Some turf maintenance issues are developing on tees, fairways and greens. Glad to see green aeration was recently done. Unfortunate that many players are Not fixing their ball marks and divots..but would play again.
mountain course
I have played this course numerous times and it becomes a little easier each time, because of the fact that there are numerous blind tee shots. It can be a little frustrating when you play it the first time due to the blind tee shots. It would be helpful if they had GPS on the carts, but they don't!
One of my favorites!
First time playing the course since the year it opened. Never thought that there would be another course here that could compare with the Cobb, which has always been a favorite of mine. Stonehaven and Cobb are very different courses but both are extremely good. Conditions could not have been better. The layout is challenging but not as tight as it first appears. Stonehaven is a definite do not miss when in the area. Paired with the Cobb and it would be an awesome 2 day trip.
Good time had by all
Played 18 holes and if I never play another course, I would be happy the rest of my days. Course in excellent condition from tee though green. Layout is challenging, but fair. Course is suitable for all levels of play. Some of our scratch golfers played from the tips and had all they could handle, our higher handicap guys played from the senior tees and everyone had a great time. Multiple elevation changes, large greens and very scenic, with deer everywhere.
Pretty good views
The holes are interesting and the conditions were very good. The elevation changes are pretty interesting and greens very puttable. This is still just a old school country club and resort players must see members coming out from everywhere in their cute carts. This is a $50-70 course. The pro shop guy was much better today, a very nice change from the day before. The bugs are terrible, even covered in bug spray!
An Amazing Mountain Course
I was able to book a round on this beautiful, mountain golf course through GolfNow for the incredible low rate of $30pp. This course normally charges $65-70.
Even though it had snowed 3-4" in the days leading up to our reservation the course was in superb condition. Plush, green fairways with quick paced greens made for a very challenging round for our foursome. There were only a few holes that remained a bit muddy so, unfortunately, play was ruled as Cart Path Only. This was my only gripe of the day- if they would just declare certain holes CPO instead of the entire course we could've completed our round in around 4 hours, instead of the 5 it took.
The pro shop and grill staff were very helpful and polite and the food was fantastic. We enjoyed 3-4 games of free billiards while snacking on delicious fish & chips. Even the adult beverages were reasonably priced.
This is hands down the finest course I've played in WV (and possibly overall), and I will be returning every time I visit my dad to get a round or two in. (I still haven't played the Old White course at the Greenbrier Hotel, but I hope to remedy that soon). I can't recommend this course highly enough. Beautiful course conditions, stunning views and an awesome, friendly staff make Glade Springs a real treasure. Do yourself a favor and play a round here- you won't leave disappointed.
