The Home Course
About
The Home Course in DuPont is considered one of the best public golf courses in Washington. Throughout the walkable layout, golfers will enjoy scenic views of the Puget Sound, the Olympic Mountains, and Mount Rainier. It's a long course at 7,424 yards from the back tees. The challenging greens play fast and true, and they are complemented by wide fairways with generous landing areas. There are several challenging holes where you'll face strategically placed bunkers and subtle, but tricky elevation changes. The golf course begins with a few open, parkland holes and then it gets more challenging. The seventh hole is one of the toughest, starting from an elevated tee to a green that is neatly tucked behind a lake. The final holes provide stunning mountain views for a memorable finish.

Beautiful day for golf
Expected aerated greens per the GN warning, but was pleasantly surprised to find they had postponed it to the following week. Course was in great shape.
Feeling a little SPACEY...
Big greens and lots of opportunities to miss off the tee and still be in good shape. This place is "scorable" and "spacey" :)
You will enjoy this walk if you decide to pack or push. All slopes are gradual and short. You get some solid views of the Olympics and Rainier is your back drop on many holes. Only by walking will you get an appreciation for the rolling fairways.
You get a little bit of everything here: challenging par 3's over waste areas or water, Par 4's that require accuracy opposed to length, Par 4's that let you bomb away, and very getable Par 5's.
Everything that makes a course fun, you can find at The Home Course.
I've played here twice and both times the course has been in great condition. In the summer, these fairways will ROLL.
THC has one of the best practice putting greens you will find. The practice chipping area and range are also well above average. Everything is grass (no mats) and well groomed.
To sum this up...
Greens: large, fast, & a great deal of small hills and undulations
Fairways: Large & forgiving
Enjoy.
So-so and so slow
Greens not smooth due to mixed grass; fairway turf too short and thin; 5-hour round despite a Marshall on duty. Lay-out is interesting and challenging with some great views.
loved it! wind and all
I loved the layout and true links style bunkering. greens are challenging but nice. not too fast when i played them. my playing partner said he liked it as much as chambers bay links, but chambers bay is on a different level as far as difficulty, scenery and overall "bigness", but it is a US open course after all. but i will return and it was really worth the long drive. oh and loved the wind!! after all its part of the game
Great track
Great course, especially if you are sick of playing in the woods.Room to hit the ball around, nice greens. The only thing that could have made this a better day was;if I hit the hole in one,on the third hole, instead of my partner!
Don't play in windy conditions
Very disappointing experience. I've played The Home Course several times, the last time about four years ago. I remember it as a beautiful, lush, and well-maintained course with an appealing layout, which provided a great round of memorable golf.
I was enthusiastic to return for a round when the exceptionally low rate for a tee time was offered. At that time (about a week before), the weather was forecast to be 78 degrees and 6 mile an hour winds — PERFECT! I'm a fair-weather golfer, so I was good to go.
Unfortunately, the weather changed dramatically in the two days before my round to rainy, very windy and cool (around 60 degrees). I made an appeal to both Golf Now (two days ahead) and directly to the course (the morning of) to see if I could switch the date, as rain, thunderstorms and windy conditions were in the forecast for the day of play. Neither were ready to make any exceptions, so I was stuck with the tee time, or would forfeit my (fortunately modest) payment.
It was also a 1-1/4 hour drive each way to the course and back home, so I didn't want to drive that far only to play in dubious weather and poor conditions and perhaps not get a full round in.
Once at the course, I was paired with three others who also booked the time (I was a single, so am always at risk of a questionable pairing). Unfortunately —and with no blame to either Golf Now or the course —, it became clear on the first hole of play that the others couldn't stop talking while I was addressing the ball at the tee, on the approach, or on the green, which made it impossible to concentrate and get into a rhythm. When I made an appeal to them for some normal etiquette about that (we're talking about 10 or 20 seconds of quiet — then they could talk all they wanted!), they wouldn't agree, which made things tense. So much for that.
We played on and I did my best to tolerate it, but felt uncomfortable for most of the remainder of the round (at the end of the round, one of the other players revealed to me that he had only been playing for a year or two and didn't realize that it was proper etiquette to keep quiet when someone was preparing to make a swing). Anyway...
Never felt comfortable or concentrated because of the conflict and consequently didn't play very well (too much in my head!). And while it fortunately never did rain during the round (though it did just before), the winds were a BIG factor — around 25mph for at least 8 holes and a bit less for the others. I'd hit a drive straight out, and the wind would take the ball 50 yards right or left! Not much fun.
Also, the condition of the course was not as impressive as I remembered from past visits. Also worth noting is that it is not an easy walking course, as there are several holes that have very long distances to walk to the next tee (though that was not an issue for me, as I had a riding cart).
The net result: I probably won't be returning any time soon to play there again. If I'm going to drive that far for a round, I'll likely opt for Gold Mountain, which is only a 5-minute longer drive from my home and I KNOW I'll have a great time there.
This whole experience could have easily have been flipped to a positive one if Golf Now and/or the course could have made a one-time exception for a reasonable request. You have one chance to impress a customer, or risk losing their business ahead. Customer service is EVERYTHING! Anyway, live and learn...
This was a great course to play.Wide fairways the course was in excellent condition. The greens were perfect for putting not to slow not to fast.I would recommend this for all golfers.
Great Course, Slow PLay
This is a terrific course, well designed, gorgeous views and pretty well maintained. The greens were slow and scrubby on the day we played, but the course was in great shape otherwise.
Unfortunately, the pace of play was very slow, we were stuck behind a foursome who had a spectator in tow and they were really slow; not only was the group ahead's pace of play slow, they were taking photographs on most of the greens after putting (the views are gorgeous, but this was ridiculous). There was a marshal on the course who claimed he had asked this group to speed up, but really he should have had them either pick up and advance or let us play through. I know everyone complains about slow play, but by 11 or 12, they'd fallen so far behind that the group ahead of them had already finished (6 holes behind!).
Lastly, the cost was a bit steep, the round itself was $54, which is reasonable, but the cart was $16 per person ($32 total) - it's a great course, but that's excessive during the week.
Great Course
One of my favorite courses in the Northwest. Beautiful views and always in great condition.
I would recommend this course to anyone who comes to the area or anyone who hasn't played it.
Played challenging combo tees in wind
I like playing the Home Course when I can and enjoy the challenging layout. I played the combo tees for the first time at 6308 yards. I was in two bunkers on #3 and #5 and stayed out of the water on #7 and #14. The contour on many of the greens makes putting difficult but I thought the greens were extremely slow. Hitting out of the two bunkers was difficult also as the sand in the bottom of the bunkers has really thinned from the winter weather and may need some TLC so players don't clang their sand wedge on small rocks on the bottom of the bunker.
M
Course condition is excellent even with all the rain. Greens were in great shape.
Great course layout
Open courses are great. A little windy at times but, overall fun course to play.
wind is part of the game
Fun Course
Fun Course, playing in March is difficult, the greens were extremely slow, fairways were fine... I can only imagine how much more I would enjoy this course if you didn't have to blast a 15 ft putt like it was 30 feet
I'll be back
Great deal
I heard great things about this course but did not had a chance to play until now.
I enjoyed every minute of it.
looking forward to play again.
Fun round.... different
Very cold and windy day... but dry. The wind made it fun for a first time round here. Not too many tricks but the course was in decent shape for sure.
Wide open fairways and great views
My long driving sons enjoyed the wide open fairways where they could unleash their drivers with good results. Seemed like you could see for miles, great views. Guys in front of us were slow and it rained on us but all in all good day.
That is ridiculas, 6 holes out of place? I would have played thru whether they likeed it or not. A few drives over their heads would have done the trick. and marshalls who are scared of telling golfers to speed up or pick up should be relieved of their duties
