18 Beautiful Holes
Coyote Moon is an excellent golf course. I play Coyote Moon this time of year when they offer an early season special for NCGA members. I would never pay full price.
Bring your camera because each hole is special. It doesn't favor one type of golfer over the other, but it does help if the straight hitter since it's tree-lined.
Like other have mentioned, there is no driving range, but they do have warm-up stations.
I love Coyote Moon and try to play it once a year.
Coyote Crawl, disappointed
The pace of play here is pretty bad. Our round took just over 5 hours and we waited literally on every tee box as we watched the group in front of us wait for the group in front of them. And we waited on every fairway to hit our approach shot. The cart girl told me that the day before, rounds were pushing 6 hours. And the card attendant intimated that they tend to have piece of play issues here. For what they're charging for green fees here, they need to do a better job managing pace of play. It's simply is not enjoyable standing around on a golf course and waiting and waiting.
As for the practice facilities, they have no range but a very small area with some cheesy nets tied to trees and two worn out mats. Again, for what they're charging for green fees here, they can do better. The practice green was nice and well maintained though.
As for course conditions, overall they were good. A few too many tee boxes though had a lot of wear on them and a few of the greens had some minor issues. Again, for what they're charging for green fees here, they can do better.
As for the course, there are a lot of elevation changes and undulating fairways. Flat lies are a little more the exception and not the rule. And shot selection is critical on a lot of holes. Use the wrong club and you'll be spending a lot of time in the woods looking for your ball. You won't be using your driver a whole lot here. The layout can be quirky at times, especially a few holes on the back nine. And our group was talking about the 18th being a less than satisfying finishing hole.
Honestly, I was expecting a better experience here, especially for what they're charging. I've played much nicer courses and had much better experiences for a lot less money. Until they drop their green fees or improve pace of play, I won't go back.
Great resort course
Beautiful course in beautiful setting. Not to be missed. Hole 13 is breathtaking. Very fair course with no trick holes. Stay on fairway and you will be rewarded. Nice puttable greens.
Stunning course/great condition/awful pace of play
I played Coyote Moon for the first time yesterday and this course was incredible. The setting was amazing and the course was in amazing shape. Truly one of the best courses I have been too. Unfortunately the pace of play was one of the worst I have seen. It took about 4 hours to play 13 holes. I wasn't even able to finish my round because I had to catch my flight. They did not have an employee even trying to keep the pace at a respectable level which was disappointing given the course was not cheap. No golf course of this level should allow a round to take 6 hours. If they can fix this issue this course would be elite.
Good condition!!
Good condition, good greens!! Challenging course!!
This is the one to play in Truckee
Grays Crossimg and Old Greenwood are nearby but this is the one to play.
Staff were friendly and course was beautiful and fun to play. This one will make my play again list.
Great course, but no range, and very slow pace
This is a beautiful golf course, challenging yet fair and fun to play. The issues are that there is no marshall or ranger to move slow groups along and pace of play suffers because of it, as our round (2pm tee time) took over five hours to complete. It is also kind of disappointing for the prices charged, that there is no driving range to warm up pre-round, just a couple of mats with a net, which was crowded and there was a substantial wait to get one of the two mats to hit from. Anyhow, amazing golf course, but for the money, the lack of driving range and turtle pace of play was disappointing.
Amazing
Great course, bring some extra balls. The only downfall, traps are a little janky
Loved The Layout
Loved this course and loved the fact that you were out in the wilderness and there were ZERO houses on the course! It may have helped that we were the first tee time, but we saw deer on almost every hole the entire day. Conditions were fantastic and it's a beautiful place. Don't get there early to hit range balls as there is no range.
Expensive Round
First time at Coyote Moon. Greens were extremely slow due to groundskeepers watering the greens during the ENTIRE round. Very frustrating. Some fairways were very thin and bare spots very noticeable. This is a course where "course knowledge" is incredibly important and unfortunately, management doesn't provide much in-round assistance. Other than that, course was nice. Also, no driving range (2 small netted hitting boxes in the woods are all that is available) makes the round more frustrating.
Willy Coyote Moon
Great course and great staff make for a great golf day. Then when your driving along you get to see a lot of the local wildlife.
