course has gone downhill
This was one of our favorite courses in the past but over last couple of seasons have seen a dramatic drop in both fairways & greens. Lot of dead & dried out fairways and although the greens have filled in somewhat still a ways to go. The only saving grace was the amazing low rate for a 6:54 AM tee time else is overpriced for the money charged. Hopefully they can bring it back to the great shape it use to be in.
Course is in need of significant ground restoration
Greens were not cut and very high. Several greens had areas of no grass and was dirt patches. Many fairways were bald (dirt) and no grass areas and weeds growing. Tee boxes were not cut. There were several fairways with standing water.
Sprinkler Systems
Too many leaks, too dry, Greens okay; Fairways, good to poor
Truly enjoyed
Pace of play was awesome which made for a truly relaxing and enjoyable golf game. I am planning on playing there again.
Very Nice!
I was pleasantly surprised at the course layout! Even from the tips the course played short! Of course the hard fairways contributed. And as shaggy looking as the greens appeared, they were still fairly fast! I'd say, 7/8 on the stimp? That's pretty fast for early spring Bermuda.
I liked the various degrees of dogleg holes and the longish par 3's. 2 extra clubs into the prevailing SE to NE winds!
The whole crew, pro shop, maintenance and ambassadors all went out of their way to say a simple "Howdy!"
Yes, I'd say I'll be back!
Course needs a lot of TLC
Great layout... many areas on fairways need better grooming as there a lot of patches that need grass. Most greens are terrible... patch, uneven, bumpy. If properly groomed this could be the best course in the area.
SPEND SOME MONEY.
leisure golf
We enjoyed our round at san Miguel. The only glaring issue was that the greens were in poor condition. The pace of play was great and the staff were very accommodating. We will play it again.
disappointed
I played the course when it was Grand Valley. The condition of the course has went downhill considerably with the new owners.
No TLC in Eloy
Course looked like the minimum effort was made in terms of care and mtce. Greens were an embarrassment. At one time this course was okay. The fees charged were outrageous for the condition of this course. For $15 it might be a marginal recommendation. The group I was with were paying $44. A joke.
Washrooms were disgusting. No AC in the dining area.
Love the course layout
I loved the course layout. Each hole has character to it. But the green are in bad shape.
would not play again
have played san migel before and honestly now I would rate it the worst course to play in southern Arizona. greens sucked, no grass lots of paint, fairways terrible shape. this course was a great place to play at one time but not today. play putt putt not samn migel
No TPC
This course is "get what you pay for" . I paid $20 and I got a $20 round. Not busy, not a bad layout, very average condition. Greens were not in good condition, but if your looking to go out for fun with the buddies, or just to swing a club, the price was right.
Poor Condition
This course was once one of the best courses in the area to play. The current condition of the course is poor at best.
Nice course
The course was in better shape than I had been told. The fairways were OK and the greens fair, but fast. Will play again if the price is right.
How businesses fail
Have golfed this over the past 12 years and was shocked at the poor conditions of the greens as they used to be better than Phoenix Resort Courses. Fairways are poor as the basics of growing turf are not there, proper irrigation system, management to see that all areas are looked after .Either this changes or it goes into bankruptcy very soon. It was a favorite for us Canadian Snowbirds. Good Luck
Painted Greens
A pretty course but the greens were sparsely grown in and painted green. Very difficult to get a true put.
The last time I played a course with painted greens it closed the following year.
Worht the drive feom Oro Valley
Just played San Miguel, midweek and went out as a single and played from the green tees , approx 6600 yards.
The course has a very good layout, lots of curving fairways so just gripping it and ripping it isn't always your best option. The fairways were decent and the greens were not the best but are coming back and despite their look they rolled true to the read and weren't an issue after the first hole and quite a few had some great character with the pin placements and undulations. The staff were very helpful and incredibly friendly. The manager/club pro was very friendly as were the few other golfers I ran across while playing my round. Despite the course still trying to get ba k into peak condition I will definately be returning to play again now that I know the layout and correct shot selections on the holes. All and all a very pleasurable round of golf. I look forward to playing a round with some of the regulars to really learn the ins and outs of some of the holes.
PS. The tee shot on 7 is probably one of the most intimidating shots I have ever made.. Play a round and you'll see what I mean...
Sad to see the decline
Have played this course on a regular basis for 8 to 10 years. Some years better than others. The condition of the course is at an all time low and staff either don't care to be there or shouldn't be there. Not a bad lay out and in past years friendly and glad to see you. Seeding didn't take, greens are painted to give the impression of there being grass to putt on. Will be surprised if the course is open next year unless major changes are made.
San Miguel
I love the layout and the staff is excellent. The reseeding just hasn't taken over yet like it should have. A few warm weeks should help a lot The greens are also rough but coming back
Course condidtion
I have played this course for years and it's one of my favorites. It is worth the drive from Tucson normally but last weekend the course was not in good shape. I hope they get it together and also stay open for the summer.
