Soldiers Creek Golf Club
About
The course at Soldiers Creek Golf Club was designed by Scott Clark, a former Golf Course Superintendent at The Grand Hotel in Point Clear Alabama and the current Superintendent at The Peninsula Golf Club in Gulf Shores Alabama. While this is Scott's first attempt in playing the role of a course architect, it also reveals his depth of experience in the golf course industry. The design goals of building a course that would be enjoyable for high handicappers as well as low handicappers was met in this design.
The course features wide player-friendly fairways. Also, water comes into play on only two holes which makes navigating this course easier for high handicappers. A large natural turf driving range and 10,000 square foot practice green is available as a warm-up or practice area.
Soldiers Creek Golf Club is owned by the Norman Woerner family. Norman is a member of the Woerner Turf family of sod producers. Woerner Turf is a world-wide leader in turf production. The company provides turf for many golf courses ranging from Augusta National to new courses in Hong Kong. They also supply the turf for the NFL Super Bowl and the NFL Pro Bowl in Hawaii.
Southern Turf Nurseries provided the Tif Eagle for Soldiers Creek Golf Club. This turf grass is considered by many to be the best-of-the-best turf for southern golf course greens. The fairways and roughs are Tif 419, a dense-growing emerald-colored grass that's perfect for plush fairways. The greens feature Tif Eagle, the newest and best-of-the-best southern turf grass for golf course greens. An increasingly popular choice for new golf courses and redesigns, this turf permits a closer cut, thus allowing for smoother, faster greens.
Located only several miles from Alabama's sun-kissed Gulf Coast, this new 18 hole championship course is part of the Woerner Preserve Resort. Our friendly staff welcomes you to play the newest course on the Gulf Coast. Yes, we are now open. Come spend some time with family or friends. Relax and enjoy a round of golf in this natural setting.

Challenging par 4’s for women
Women better come prepared to hit a great second shot to score well on this course. Always enjoyable to golf here
Easy but tight
it’s not a tough course unless you slice then it becomes difficult because the woods are so close to the right rough.
Terrible course
I play a lot of golf and I have to say that this course is not worth $53 that I paid. There is clover on the tee boxes in the fairways and around the greens. The fairways have dead spots on them, The greens have crap grass on them, The fairways also have worm holes on them as well. I will not be back.
The course was in overall good condition
After reading reviews about course was a little bit hesitant about playing there but after playing there course was in good condition and played very well. The greens were fine and fairways also would recommend course to others.
Value
We come to Gulf Shores every year for vacation, mostly to golf. This is a nice course with a great layout. Unfortunately, they don't keep the cours as nice as it once was, but it's also more affordable. So, you get what you pay for. We keep coming back to this course because it's more affordable. The course conditions depend on how much rain they get. Sometimes it's too much and it's soaked, other times it's too dry and it has bare spots. This trip, it has been dry, so there were alot of tee boxes that need water. The greens were ok, they have some weeds growing in, but did not impact the putting too much, but were a little slower than I like. Overall, it's a good bang for the buck. But if you want plush, you'll have to pay the $120+ greenfees at another location. If you want to play relaxed golf and not worry about too many people playing slow, this is your place.
I would recommend the place spend some $ and get coolers for the carts, the plastic bags don't keep your drinks cool long in the southern heat. And they won't let you bring your own cooler, even if you put their drinks in it. Buy the coolers, make people give you their driver's license or $20 deposit that's refunded when the cooler is returned.
Use to be a good course
Fairways were burnt. Greens have some kind of weed/grass growing on them. Impossible to putt a straight line.
Played here many times in the last 8 years but I won’t be back with current conditions
Just OK
Average $35-$45 course. Pace of play was great because no one was out playing it due to the heat fairways and tea boxes are in good shape. Can’t say the same for the greens a lot of weeds/dead spot/fertilizer material ball doesn’t roll well at all Clubhouse isn’t much to speak of.
Vacation Tour
Always enjoy Soldiers Creek. Play once a year on vacation. Value is the best part. A little disappointed this time in the condition of the greens. I understand weather, etc. Need to mow all areas and NOT leave all of the grass, limbs, etc rolled up along the edges. One might have been able to bale hay on some of the fairways. I struggle enough with my driver and certainly don't need to lose a ball in the fairways
Decent course for the money
Greens were long and hair- probably due to the hot weather. Good course layout. Some greens had bare spots. Clubhouse lady is very friendly and accommodating.
Ninth green minimally playable
Course in pretty good shape overall but ninth green with sand dumped everywhere. And these folks have an unusual relationship with GolfNow, because of which they ask you to show proof of prepayment to GolfNow before you can check in. Most all other courses are notified of prepayment.
Needs attention
Fairways are "ok", good luck on most greens, some had giant holes filled with mud and sand. The greens need a lot of help... Fairwairs need attention. Overall I'd play 18 again for $25 , but not worth more than that.
Overall Fun Time at Soldier's Creek
Overall, I enjoyed the course. The weather was hot but there is plenty of shade to take advantage of. The only issue was the condition of the greens. Too many greens had bare spots. Considering the number of golfers I saw on the course and the condition of other courses in the area, I expected better.
Great course for the value.
If you’re looking for a value course while at the beach this one is very nice. Staff was extremely friendly and professional. Course was in good shape throughout. I had a great time playing it. Only about 30 minutes away from Gulf Shores.
