Salt Creek
This course is a links type course out in the canyons. Its dry country out at the end of town. Its fun to play because it has elevated tees and shots across canyons. I enjoy it because it lets you use all your clubs.
Dried up course
This course has a great layout but they never water it enough so there's barely any grass on the fairways. For the price you pay, there should be grass to play on. The putting greens were in good shape tho. This course has potential to be a really nice course if there was grass on the fairways and the sand traps had actual sand and not hard packed dirt. Sad to see this good of a course layout go to waste...
Pleasant surprise
I read earlier reviews but decided to play anyway and I’m happy I did. Yes the course was very dry. However the greens were great and the fairways were playable. Even bunkers were pretty good. Layout is great. So for the price I enjoyed it
Course was one of the worst
One of the worst courses I have played. The pictures are wholly inaccurate when it comes to current conditions. Aside from the greens which were not mowed, there was barely any green grass on the course. In fact, there was little grass on the course. With the course being so dry it was extremely penal because any loose shot bounded off the course. I could not, and would not, recommend this course to anyone of any level. There have to be better options.
Potential
I have played here at Salt Creek since this was called Auld. The course lay-out is so fun and challenging as long as you know each hole and fairway well. This golf course has the potential to be one of the best courses in San Diego if the fair ways were kept in good shape and condition all the time with more care. It is regrettable that some golfers dislike this course just by the difficulty and course condition or shape. I hope
the golf club managements will do something for the improvements.
Unique Course
This course is fun and unique. It’s as close as we get to links golf in San Diego. You can play a variety of shots into the greens so creativity is rewarded. The greens are usually smooth and quick with subtle breaks. The fairways are tight and firm the ball rolls out a lot so that has to be considered off the tee. Overall this is an excellent course.
Good Course
The course is coming back really quickly. A few dry areas but nothing bad, just adjust to it. This course will challenge you if you don't have a game plan. A lot of the fairways have to be played to the slope of the fairway, otherwise you will be looking for your ball in the rough. I like this course. Looks easy until you make a mistake. I had a good time.
Nice, relaxing round of golf.
Greens and fairways in good shape. Did run into a 5-some that sort of slowed the works up but otherwise pretty much smooth sailing throughout the course for a single after noontime on a Thursday. Greens are fast!.
Love it or hate it
Yes it is a dry course but its links style. I love it.
Worst overall golf experience of my life
Where do I begin? Last time I played here I said 'never again' but I came back anyway. The greens were playable, the rest of this cow pasture was not. Zero grass on any fairway which looked like they had just been thatched or verti-cut. Where's the water, as in when and where does this place water the fairways? 5 or 6 times I drove into the middle of the fairway, without fade or hook, and on each occasion the ball would roll sideways until it reached the snake-infested weed patches along the edges of the fairways, no grass anywhere to stop the ball. The 3' tall weeds along all the fairway edges is a disgrace. What a horrible experience including playing behind 3 very slow women, one of whom stole a brand new ProV1x of mine when I accidentally hit close to a green they were on by accident from 220 on a blind shot. I will NOT be back.
This course is overrated
The course was not in good condition. There was no water available at the holes, the jugs were empty. The course was confusing and not good directions around the course. The course seems to be poorly maintained.
Love this course.
The greens are still recovering but once they do Salt Creek has some of the best greens in SD. The layout is awesome. Challenging but also has holes that you need to take advantage of and score well on. Par fives are reachable but require perfect shots. One of my favorite courses.
Fun course
Salt Creek is a fun course with tight fairways and usually fast greens. They are adding actual sand to the bunkers so that will help overall. The lay out is challenging and is a links style course where you can play a variety of shots. I like playing this course often because the lay out is so different than the typical California golf course. I would recommend this course to any golfer while the course is challenging it offers plenty of opportunities to score
Greens condition "punch"
Overall the round was ok., we just didnt realize that the greens were recently punched. It was a bit of upsetting to expect the greens were punched and sands. We were expecting a course and greens that we played before in great shape. I would not reconmend to play until maybe next 7 weeks
