MM
The greens were aerated but in the decent shape and for $10 you cannot beat that.
Challenging
Really fun course. The front 9 is being punched so we played the back twice. Glad to see they care enough to pay the price for upkeep.
hit it straight
you get different looks on variety of holes... good time
Salt Creek
this is a course that is laid out in the canyons so it is fun to play if you like elevated tees and across canyon tees. I enjoy it because its not just long and flat like a regular course.
They sold hot deal tee times in the middle of big tournament
I noticed my Hot deal tee time was in middle of big group tournament , which flow so slow and many players were even drunken. There was any controlling rangers on the course. I had to give up
after 9 holes taking 3 hours. And no water available on the course in hot weather.
It was a terrible experience.
Great day
The course is really coming around. There are issues with the traps and some rough but play ground under repair. This course will beat you up if you play sloppy, but take your time and manage the course and it's well worth the day. This will be all fives when the rough spots are made well again.
One of San Diego County's most fun courses to play
Salt Creek is one of the few courses on our region with a links style feel. Fast undulating fairways, large greens (in great condition right now), and trouble to both sides if you are errant. The course plays shorter than its length due to the run in fairways, and three of the par 5's are reachable from the appropriate tees for your game. Just a real golf experience, and very fun, with lots of memorable holes.
Salt Creek Review
Course had challenging holes. Scorecard had very helpful hints on how to play each hole, but would have bought a yardage book if it was available as it would have made some approach shots less of a guess. Greens were nice rolled to around a 10 or 11. Definitely wouldn't recommend walking this course as it's hilly and a fair distance between green to the next tee box on more than a few holes.
Water the course!
I live very close to this course and would play it much more often if the course conditions were even close to making the course fairly playable. There is really no grass on most fairways and with the undulations in the fairways, a ball that hits the middle of the fairway can sometimes run completely off the fairway and into weeds. The greens are in OK shape. Most bunkers have NO sand in them and just have hard pan and rocks in them. I specifically think #16 is unplayable due to there being no grass on the fairway to keep the ball from running completely out of play. In some cases, it can be like hitting off of concrete from the middle of the fairway.
good value
Salt Creek is a good value. The bunkers are unplayable but the fairways and greens are in very good shape. Pace was good for a mid day Saturday. There aren't really any off course amenities but the employees are nice. However, I must admit this is the only course I have ever played where a few golfers play loud music from their golf carts. I play Salt Creek a few times a year, and this was the third time I've experienced the "boom box" thing at this course. The first two times the players offered to turn it down, the jerk yesterday could care less. That being said, I've met a lot of nice people at Salt Creek and enjoy playing there. Next time though I will bring earplugs. It's the one thing I hadn't carried in my golf bag.
