Reviews
Delightful round of golf
Played on a relatively cool morning and the course was nearly empty in the morning, which made for a round of 18 under 3.5 hours.
Great Place!!
Stone Tree is one of the best courses in the Bay Area - great layout, friendly staff, challenging but fair course.
Solid course Conditions and excellent bar and food
Solid course. Good conditions. Front 6 is fairly straight forward and then the rest gets very challenging. I know the marshall has to do their job but don't press us if we aren't slowing down the group behind us. The group behind us was a hole behind and he's telling us were too slow. C'mon man! I paid $120 for this course. I'm not going to rush but I won't slow down the group behind us as well. Overall, very happy with this course.
Great course with a fair price
This is without a doubt the nicest public course in Marin. Short, but well laid out with significant terrain variation. Definitely worth the price.
Best Public Course in the North Bay!
Definitely the best course in the North Bay. Course conditions are second to none and the layout has a great variety of flatter holes and in the hills. Service is top notch and the staff is very friendly. This course is my choice when playing in Marin/Sonoma.
Stiff test of golf
This is a beautiful course but it is very difficult especially if the wind is blowing.
Good test of golf
A well designed course but not for the casual golfer. A good mix of flat and hilly holes, and wide straight fairways and doglegs
Great Shape!
First time here. Beautiful shape considering the drought very well maintained, but pace of play was slow...2 fivesomes in front of me! One of the best close to the city. Really, really nice course
Stone tree
Good overall course!
The only thing it was missing really was a good bar. There was no one at the bar when we went in before our round to order from. We were starving the starter was nice enough to place an order from us and bring it out to us. Great Service on his end to hold up the rest of the place. We will be back.
Course was fantastic
The course was in great condition. Very challenging and a must play when in Marin
Nice Course.
Played for the first time and came back 2 days later. Nice layout close to SF. For me this course really gets it's character starting on 7. Will come back when visiting.
Beautiful course with difficult thin fairways
great course and very great condition. The speed of play in the afternoon (2:00 PM) was amazing. finished my round in 3.5hrs! great layout and very fun and challenging. Greens had been punched a week prior but the layout on the greens was great and difficult. Can't wait to come play here again
You have to try it!
Very challenging course that is extremely well maintained. The 9th hole requires a lot of skill. You may think you can drive over the water, I would challenge you to consider the wind looming in those hills! If you are lucky, your tee shot will rest at the end of the fairway where the dogleg right begins. Don't let the green fool you, it is long and narrow with multiple levels and a challenging placement is common! Avoid going left! The entire experience is 5 stars. A must play in this area.
Best Constructed and Maintained Public Course in Marin
There is no other public course in Marin close--though there are many other courses I enjoy playing just as much. Construction of the course was state-of-the art (imported sand base, etc.) and the maintenance rivals private courses. Despite the drought, the course is pristine. Hence the not inexpensive greens fees. It's a very fun play with plenty of tee boxes to accommodate all levels. It's a difficult course, to be sure, but a few of the more penalizing aspects were eliminated a few years ago in a mini-remodel. I've never played a Johnny Miller course I didn't enjoy, and this is no exception. The facility is upscale from top to bottom and everybody associated with the property is very friendly. Highly recommended.
One downside. They have tried for many years to add a driving range, but it isn't going to happen. The hitting stations (into a net) will have to suffice.
The greens are speedy.
The course is the trickiest I've ever played in the bay area but a lot of fun to play. Great staff. Pricy but its a good course. The greens are very fast.
Loved It
Beautiful course with scenic surroundings. We had a wonderful round and a great day. The staff was very friendly.
.
GPS needed
I really enjoyed the course, however it was my first time playing and had no course knowledge. I would have given this course 5 stars, however the carts do not provide any gps and for people who have never played the course makes it that much more difficult. My only recommendation. Would be to make it more player friendly by adding gps.
Price of course: I paid 85$, and I believe that is pricey for this course. I have played plenty of other course that are just as nice if not nicer and paid much less. This price was also a good deal according to golfnow, I believe it's overpriced.
A Dozen Should Do The Trick!!
What a fabulous way to test your skills, even if I were a single digit handicap, I would still play it forward. Tricky, Tricky, layout...Many of the holes are visually deceptive, even from 180 yards. Don't be fooled, it may look like an easy 5 iron, but a hard 4 might get you on the front edge.. ...Good for you, if on in regulation, leave all your wedges in the bag, and bring 3 putters. In addition, to 3 sleeves of balls. One would think for $85.00 PP, the course wouldn't be too busy on a weekday. WRONG, looks like everyone thought the same as me, for the $85.00 Golfnow deal, it was a steal. This course does take awhile to play, you'll see when you get there. Have Fun!!
good course, good girl!
course was in good shape and well-maintained. a little bit challenging. a lot of ups and downs. a little bit narrow fairways. the female staff outside was really friendly. complimentary cooler, two bottles of water and a few tees were really good.
Nice course - gets tougher as you go...
Played for the first time - first 5 or 6 holes are fairly standard - but from there on it gets increasingly difficult. Some long carries to reach fairways, some narrow fairways and quite a bit of water, especially around the middle of the card. Greens were excellent and true - the fairways also well maintained. Got a little slow a times, playing as a single but nowhere to go through...
