Beautiful Resort
Great course and beautiful setting. In great shape. Layout was not the most creative, but the amazing vegetation and ocean hole make it worth playing.
Great Course, Beautiful Scenery
This course was in good shape and in a perfect setting. Moderately difficult, but reasonable. Beautiful setting on the north shore in Turtle Bay.
Player friendly course
Enjoyable round of golf on this Fazio design in Hawaii. Golf in Hawaii what else can you ask for?! My only gripe was that the golf carts do not have GPS and the greens were not cut down enough to be challenging. Overall, course was in great shape and very pleasant experience comma would recommend to anyone.
Twilight ONLY
The staff was very friendly and helpful. The range was small and we could only hit irons that day..The layout of the course is pretty simple not much water comes into play throughout the whole course and they really didn't have sand traps they were more like dirt traps (very hard dirt.) the back nine could use a lot of TLC and it does look as if they're working on it.Overall I'm glad I waited until the twilight rate and used golfnow, it would have bothered me to pay full price for this course. The locals that I spoke with said pay the extra and play the Palmer.
Great Deal!
This is my go-to course...not because of any redeeming features....but it fits my work schedule, which takes me to the Northshore several times a month. If I time it right I can get on the course at 3:00 pm. Long days of summer means I can just get in 18 holes.
The fairwys and greens are in good shape. The recent heavy rain really has the rough well developed. As previous reviewers have stated - you only have two views of the ocean on this course. #6/#7 and #11/#12. Most courses on Oahu have none....ocean views...go to a neighbor island. All of the greens were holding the ball well (not hard) but the wind in the afternoon is a huge factor. My only complaint is the lack of sand in the bunkers. Very hard clay-like surface.
Take advantage of the Turtle Bay "Golf Plus" program. This is my third year of membership - a great deal if you can play here a lot.
Bad Condition
This course is in terrible condition. They don't even have real tee boxes. The fairways don't have grass, the bunkers are concrete. Greens are in rough shape but they do place the pins to the better areas. If you are within 10 fee with ur approach you should be okay. Not worth the money.
I Expected More
Being from the Island, Turtle Bay has always been a place, which in my mind, that was supposed to be really nice. I was disappointed with the condition of the course. The greens on the front nine had many bare patches and the bunkers throughout the entire course had very little sand. My drive rolled out of one the fairway bunkers! Caught a break there, but the course got it back in the next green side bunker.
The layout is fun though. Par 3's are fun. Short par 5's.
Only paid $35 so not too bad. Wouldn't pay regular day rate though. The course needs some love.
Not a Resort Facility
This course has no ball wash facilities at any tee box.
The only drinking water on the course are one on each nine- dispensing hot/warm water. The sand traps lack sand and maintenance. Fairways on the front are patchy and burnt out and there are no marshals to maintain the pace of play.
Beautiful Course
Nice course, a little too pricey for a course that isn't that close to the Ocean. You see the Pacific on Only 3 of the holes. No ball washers, no refreshment carts, no marshall, we got lost twice. The staff was Awesome and we rented their clubs. Super helpful, but kinda lazy. The grass in the course was not ideal, super hard greens and sand was not giving. Lots of Hawaiian Crabtree grass in and off fairways. HOLE 17 IS AMAXING, LOOKS LIKE NORMANDY
Tough FRICKIN course and I would definitely go back...with a Discount coupon ofcourse!
The bunkers on the George Fazio course at Turtle Bay Resort need some TLC
Bunkers, by definition, are supposed to be hazards. But when those sand traps are virtually unplayable - as they were the day I played the George Fazio course at Turtle Bay Resort - that's a serious conditioning issue that needs immediate attention. Virtually every greenside bunker featured a thin layer of sand on top of a rock-hard bottom. Wedges would 'bounce' off of this hard pan, blading the ball across the green, often into the bunker on the other side. It wasn't just me. Every player in the group experienced this frustration. Finally about the 16th hole, I realized you had to bury your wedge deep into the hard stuff just to keep the ball on the green.
Beyond the bunkers, the Fazio is actually quite a fun 6,628-yard layout. Take advantage of the par 5s, several of which play short, because the par 3s are quite tough. The two par-3 tee shots on the front nine, No. 2 and No. 8, must carry water. And I have to rave about the 277-yard 14th hole, where I drove the green and made the eagle putt. If I can drive the green, it's doable for anybody. Take your shot.
