Challenging, scenic course
I’ll preface all of this by saying that I decided to play from the tips today, a first for me. At 7145, with a 74.2 rating (133 slope) from there, this was, on paper the most difficult round I have played. It turns out that when you go 220-240 off the tee (with a 3 wood) a 7145 yrd course can be a bit long. The reality is that I played many of the par 4’s “as par 5’s” because the greens were just a bit out of range for me, even when I put a couple of good strokes together.
That said, I really enjoyed The Ledges. The course was in fantastic condition and the only thing that really qualified as regrettable was that the toughest hole – a 600 yrd(!) par 5 –was under construction and was playing as a 150 yrd par 3. In talking to the staff, they said this was because the hole was playing too tough “I’d see guys coming in with par, bogey, double bogey, bogey, par, *ten* … over and over again and we knew we had to simplify the hole for playability.” Seems legit.
Almost every review I read about the course said the back nine was breathtaking (check, and double check). What I found interesting was the number of reviews that found the front pedestrian (some even said boring). This did not reconcile with my experience at all. While the front is certainly a different experience, it still plays to some great golf. A bit more open and “links’y” the front still demands some well-placed balls off the tee. With mounds and waste areas surrounding the fairways I think there is plenty of cost for errant shots. I’ll admit that some of this impression may have been derived from playing all the way back for the first time, but that only goes so far. To me this entire course is worth playing.
I liked that the course plays around within the edges of the red rock canyons without getting gimmicky. There is one hole that is absolutely “target golf” I hit 7i (175yds) then GW (114yds) to get on the deck of the downhill hole. However, any angst that might be generated from that is – in my opinion - quickly overcome by the beauty of the hole itself. Everything else on the course plays as good solid golf.
Pace of play was snappy to say the least on a Monday morning. I finished my round in 2:51 (I was in a cart today), and was played through by a guy hitting two balls (but taking zero pictures). I was second out, behind a single that started about 20 minutes before me, so I wouldn’t expect this pace regularly, but it’s good to know quick rounds are out there if you arrive at the right time.
The staff was simply exceptional. Friendly, engaging, and – to a one – legitimately interested in my trip, the courses I’ve been playing, etc. Even the grounds crew seemed to just be generally happy to be there. My wife had an issue with her cart on the first hole (I was walking ahead) and when I turned around Richard from the clubhouse was (literally) running down the fairway to help her out. I really enjoyed The Ledges and would go back again to play the course; however, more definitively, I WILL go back again because of the service.
Foregotten
11 am tee time that teed off at 12:34 pm, disappointing. Arrived early and was told there was a frost delay, only 20 min delay. An hour later was told "you're up soon", 30 min later I asked if they forgot about us and they said we already went off... What? The guy in the pro shop didn't care if we played or not, no apology, nothing. Why should he care... We were visiting and we already paid! This was the worst golf experience I have ever had and I have been playing golf for many years.
overpriced
other than a few holes on the back this course is overrated and to expensive- there are other courses in the area that are a better value and offer a better overall experience
Could Play Every Day
The Ledges Golf Club in St George Utah is the kind of golf course I could play every day. It's very fair and you won't lose a ton of golf balls, but it's also got some really good character and presents enough challenge to test your game.
The front nine feels very links like and moves over a fairly flat piece of land. The holes are getable, but the greens present enough of a challenge that you have to be careful. You need to be on the right side of slopes in order to avoid three putting.
The back nine is a bit more dramatic with significant elevation change, and stunning views. After an opening par 3, you cross the road and play 11 through 17 in some rugged country. I absolutely loved this stretch of golf.
The Ledges was in great condition, tee to green. It's clear that the club prides itself in the total experience. If you're in St George, I highly recommend finding time to play The Ledges Golf Club.
Beautifully maintained, but boring.
The course was in wonderful shape. The staff was friendly and helpful. However, until you get to hole #15, the course is just boring. Other than distance, there is very little to distinguish one hole from another. Things change on holes 15 & 16. They will get your attention. Holes 17 & 18 are OK, but don’t keep up the standard set by 15 & 16.
Very Nice Course
The course is very open, and a couple of the holes have absolutely gorgeous views of the red rock desert that surrounds St. George. I did have a problem with the cart GPS being inaccurate at plus or minus 10-13 yards. I ended up using the GPS on my phone app. Course knowledge is helpful on several of the holes with doglegs. Some weeds in the fairways, but not too bad. Overall, this was a very nice course and I have no trouble with recommending it highly.
Near perfect
Currently have one hole that’s under construction with a makeshift par three in the middle of the fairway and one green that is split under construction outside of that perfect golf course wonderful amenities friendly staff consistently find ourselves going back to the ledges
Great day
The course was very nice and the condition was good with the exception of a couple of holes that had temp green and temp tee box. We did enjoy our day and the facilities are nice as well. The staff was outstanding
Very nice scenic gc,still under construction, one hole had no green. Every nice fairways & greens.
Love this course
Course is in great shape. Pace of play could have been better. Greens are perfect!
Exceptional Greens
Had played several courses in the area and this course with exceptional greens was by far the best experience. Quick and as smooth of a putting surface as you could ask for. Definitely will play again.
Elevation golf
If you love scenery and elevation changes this is the must play course
