Any day not at work and golf club in my hand is a great day.
The course was a little busy but had lots of fun
This is a great golf course. The last time I played it was in Feb 2020. The conditions then were unacceptable. Today the course is in much better shape. The greens are a little slow but very nice. The fairways are much improved. The tee boxes are a touch bare but appear to be coming back. I will play here again. The course is heading in the right direction.
thought i went to play golf, not go to the beach.
very interesting course. overly abundant amount of traps on every hole. really liked the layout with the traps and the slight hills. greens were rolling true.
. i will play this course again when i'm back in the area.
Built a house on the course and played for the first time. I’ve been concerned because of reviews here, but course is really good. It’s got good bones and work being done is evident. Greens are great. Front 9 needs some work. Has a Carolinas feel more so than a traditional Florida Course.
Great Layout, one of the best. Greens are very nice. Course needs attention, but understand with everything going on. Will be back, my favorite.
Excellent course layout, fairly unique for Central FL
We played on Saturday. Masks required in the clubhouse. Pace of play was good. Greens in great shape that have a nice pace and roll true. LOTS of bunkers. No rakes provided. Fairways pretty solid. Pin placements challenging. Overall, a great play for $23 and I would recommend to anyone who is looking for a change up from the normal, fairly flatter courses in the area.
I should have come here first to see what others said about the course. They charged me $9 to ride by myself. Do they know that Florida has 16,000 new cases everyday. The two annoying things were that 1) they had plenty of carts and the starter said we were the last tee time (10:00) for hours and 2) the snicker attitude from the "cart guy" when he told me this---- from a distance of 4 feet with no mask. I loved the course, TBH.
I enjoyed the pace and condition of the course looking forward to playing it again.
Bring your sand wedge!
Beautiful course with around 100 sand traps. Very hilly course for Florida and the greens are like rolling hills as well. Definitely challenging but fun to play. The rough areas are very rough...and are not mowed at all. If you can stay on the narrow fairways, then you will play well.
Bad business model
I love this course. Great layout, reasonably good conditions (there are better at this price point). We were horrified (that the correct word) to discover that you have to pay a premium for social distancing when Covid-19 is raging in Florida. The poor guy behind the desk was being lead by a gentleman behind a laptop at one of the tables in the restaurant. They quoted $9 each for the threesome if we wanted separate carts. We asked several times, don't you mean $9 for "one" cart? They insisted no, it would be $27 to get an extra cart for the 3some. We negotiated and got the cart for $9 and we split the cost between us. That's not the point. When asked about the ability to social distance the guy behind the laptop said he was giving us a choice - pay or ride together. So, our option was to take a chance to save $27 or $9 (whatever it is) or pony up more money.
Golf is a sport where you can commune with nature safely without worry about Covid. It is the last refuge other than staying at home sheltering in place.
I will not be playing this course again until the owners realize that the better business model is to make your customers happy and safe. Rather than go to lengths to anger them and make them unhappy they chose this course.
I wondered why this beautiful course was relatively empty.
Now I know why.
Starting to come Back
First time playing VH in a year and I must say the course has made a turn for the better based off the previous reviews. There are some aesthetic differences with the development ruining parts of the back 9 from a visual perspective, but the course itself played great. There are minor issues to address, but nothing a month or two of dedicated focus by the grounds crew couldn’t fix (crab grass in some fairways, a few iffy bare in place tee boxes, some minor drainage issues with our current heavy rainy season).
The greens were slow, but pure. Bunkers drained wonderfully. Adding the course it to my monthly rotation.
Course Needs Work
Tees boxes not in good shape, greens are slow and need work and around many of the sand traps and fairways need quite a bit of work. This could be a great course if it was better maintained. It has a very good layout and a nice finishing hole. Also maintenance staff working around you on their machines, in sand traps as you are approaching and never stop or try to move out of your way. We had to wait several times before we could hit.
Turning it around
New ownership seems to be having a positive impact on course conditions. The greens have improved immensely, but still fairly slow. Most of the fairways are looking a lot better than months past. Certain areas, especially on hole 5 and 18 still need a lot of work between what used to be split fairways. The one drawback to this course is pace of play. No marshal out on the course but they have one employee checking you in at bag drop and another employee acting as a starter. But really just checking your receipt. One thing I have to say. Older locals that play the course often act like they run the place. Trying to break up foursomes and play as a twosome on a busy day. THIS SLOWS DOWN THE PACE FOR EVERYONE and should be regulated by the starter. OVERALL I would recommend this course. It is a good value for $40 or less. One of the best layouts in central Florida.
