Colorado National Golf Club
About
The golf course at the Colorado National Golf Club is an 18-hole, public course that is situated just 20 minutes north of Denver. Jay Morrish designed the formerly known as Vista Ridge golf course with a traditional links-style layout. The course covers 7,676 yards of golf from its longest tees and plays to a par of 72. Rolling fairways lined with native grasses and large, undulating greens make the golf course interesting, while beautiful views of snow-topped mountains provide pleasant scenery. The course has many bunkers as well as water hazards. Colorado National Golf Club also features five sets of tee boxes for golfers to work on a number of different handicaps.

Great Course
Live in the area and saw the course on a bike ride… wanted to get out and experience it for my self! Glad I did- excellent course. They have some holes under construction but it did not impact our play!
Good Public Course
First time at course. Great layout, Areas appear to need attention, sand bunkers need help. Soggy areas but apparently rain has been a factor lately. Will play it again.
Not bad
Enjoyed the course!! Pace of play could’ve been better had the group in front of us played from the appropriate tee box.
Good Course But Has Many Issues
I’ve played Colorado National several times. Your experience is greatly enhanced if you get to play this course on a clear, sunny day. Where you can see the backdrops of the snow-capped mountains on many holes. Unfortunately, we played on a cloudy, rainy day. They are always doing some major work on the golf course. They were redesigning the bunkers on hole 1 and the fairway bunkers on hole 18. This course is the home course for the University of Colorado – Boulder.
LIKES:
I think the course has good design - all the holes are different. The greens are mostly poa annua grass. They putt smoothly and had good speed.
The course did have a course ranger, however, we still waited on every shot.
DISLIKES:
Colorado National should get a 4-star rating but because of these issues, I can only give it a 3-star rating.
Many of the greens had areas that give you the impression of pockmarks. The green surface was not very smooth in sections. These would be holes 3, 4, 14, 15 & 18. Hole 1, had a strip of sod, running through the middle of the green. Hole 12, also had some sod planted on the front of the green.
The starter told us that it was carts on path on Hole 4. We were in the middle of the fairway on hole 3 and the course ranger was coming by and told us this hole was cart path only too. The starter on hole 1 did not tell us that, nor were there any signs on the hole to tell us this.
There are walking paths near the golf course. The signage is awful on the course, telling which way is the cart path. Signage is needed on holes 3, 4, 9 & 10.
The colors of the tee markers are very small and too many colors alike. Hard to tell the difference between gold and copper.
My number one pet peeve on a golf course. Ridiculous/unfair pin placements. Hole 12 had the pin sitting one foot from the tier. If you were on the top tier putting and you hit your putt a foot too long, your ball went down the tier and you were 30 feet away. There is no reason for this. Hole 18 was in the upper left and was marginally unfair too. Not much of a landing area and the pin was close to the tier once again.
The price was $99 for a Friday. We played Riverdale Dunes for $72 on a Sunday and the conditions of this course are way better than Colorado National.
Great layout, great views, mediocre greens
The course itself was awesome, and I always love a good mountain view. My only gripe was that a lot of the greens had a good amount of imperfections. A fun rigorous course, though!
Extremely disappointed in golf now
We had one tee time booked for 4 golfers and golf now somehow charged us for an additional tee time at an earlier time that we did not book. I was subsequently charged a no show fee for that tee time which was 1:39 pm and was not a part of my reservations. I was charged an additional $416 so paid almost $750 for 4 people to play 18 holes. When I contacted GOLFNOW they did nothing and said I had to speak with the course. I’ve called the course twice and have had to leave a message for the controller and they have not responded. Would not recommend GOLFNOW and thought I’ve played the course several time, not sure we will be back based on such poor customer service.
Charged twice for one round of golf for four
I booked a 2:24 tee time and golf now charged me for two separate tee times for 4 players. I’m working on getting resolved but as of now I paid over $700 for one round of golf for 4 players. Was charged $400+ extra. Hoping this will be corrected. If not would not recommend using golf now to book at this course.
A Rocky Mountain High
Beautiful track. Friendly, helpful staff. Great food. I’m looking forward to playing here again. The greens had been punched and sanded recently, and well, that is what it is.
I’m hoping to return in a couple months to play this course when it’s in better shape.
Great day
Great day on the course, two people didn’t show up from the other group so my buddy and I played two balls each. Great conditions, thick rough, bunkers a little worse for wear but that’s cause we got a ton of rain the week before. Greens were very quick, made for a challenging and gorgeous day. Great course.
early season play
I have played CN several times. Today the greens were below average as many of the greens were recouping from the winter along with several areas in the fairways. A plus was the ruff areas- they have not grown up yet, thereby allowing you to find and hit your ball. pace of play was great.
Great shape
Played here a few time over the last few weeks and it’s finally playing the way it should great fairways, greens are hard but roll true maybe 2 more weeks of good weather and it will be 10/10
Treated very well and there was a great pace of play!
Colorado National is the course for the University of Colorado Buffalos golf teams. They have their own complex on the site.
The course was in great shape for early Spring. I was in a 3-some, and we played the course in under 3:30. The pace was terrific.
The staff was very professional and helpful as they got me off earlier than my tee time which was helpful to me. I enjoyed the round and will play there again this year. I would love to see the course in Summer conditions.
Great course, poor pace and overbooked
The pace of play was absolutely terrible. It took us a little over 5 hours to complete our round. They were short on carts and our battery was on its last legs at the turn. They were having an event, so limited food options at the turn. Course was in good shape, but the pace ruined it. Constantly waiting at every tee box got old, the Marshal tried picking up the pace, but his cart apparently ran out of battery as well.
Great layout
First time playing here and it was great. The course was still coming out of winter, so conditions weren't tip-top, but overall very good. The layout was fantastic. No crazy holes with dumb features to mention. I play all over the west coast monthly, and this was one of my favorite public courses. Plenty of teeing options to best suit your level.
