Grand Elk Golf Course
About
Nestled within the Colorado Rockies, Grand Elk Golf Club in Granby, Colo. offers stunning mountain views from every hole. The course has a links-layout inspired by the inland golf courses of the British Isles. The low-lying vegetation and gently rolling terrain lend a heathland feel to the course. The fairways are wide and undulating and the large greens have ample contours as well. The layout has an interesting mix of holes with some that are straightforward and others that twist into tricky doglegs, but nearly all are flanked with sod-faced bunkers. There are more than 60 bunkers coming into play throughout Grand Elk Golf Club, and water hazards come into play on four holes. Besides just being a fun and challenging round, the magnificent views that stretch across the snow-capped peaks of the Continental Divide are not to be missed.

A tale of two 9s…
Greens are the best I have played in many years. Staff is ridiculously gracious and accommodating. Fairways and overall course condition is superb. Front 9 is as fun a 9 hole stretch as you will find. Opportunities to score and rewarded for good shots. You can still find trouble and in many cases have an opportunity to save a potential blow up. Loved it.
Full disclosure - I am a legit 12 handicap and actually played up to the white tees since I never played the course before. Not a hack but not joining the Senior PGA either.
The back 9? Did not care for it at all. Multiple blind shots from tee box and/ or fairway (sometimes on same hole). Driver taken out of your hands on several holes from the tee box and a longer approach shot is demanded…to much smaller green complexes with very tight/ limited landing areas off green.
It was a complete departure from the front and few of the holes just felt wacky with the set up / sight lines etc. Granted - for many golfers that are single digit (low) then this kind of start contrast / test may appeal to them. I could care less if I ever see 10-14 again. Multiple well struck and solid golf shots needed up OB….
I would likely have a different opinion after playing this course for a second time but the change in set up and layout from front to back 9 was extreme.
Don’t miss it!
Breathtaking (literally — pack some Boost portable oxygen)! Seriously so beautiful, outstanding staff and fun course. Not a fan of first few holes on the back 9, but I just take my lumps and blame it on the layout. Love playing here!
Great course
Course was a little hard and tricky for the first time, but was a beautiful course and is in great condition.
Tough course
I would not make this my first round of the year. Several blind tee shots and long par 3’s. Tee boxes and fairways are in amazing shape. Greens are quick. Lovely staff and excellent driving range. With stiff wind blowing this course can be a butt kicker.
Overpriced, Conditioning Not the Best, Some Poorly Designed Holes
If you are in the Fraser/Granby area, I would play Pole Creek instead of this course. Pole Creek is cheaper, better design, way more picturesque and in better condition. Grand Elk has small, undulating greens with a mixture of poa annua and bent grasses.
LIKES:
They bring carts to your car.
The clubhouse is beautifully landscaped with vibrant flowers.
Brand new carts. Brown leather seats.
Hole 7 had a nice backdrop.
Had a GPS system.
DISLIKES:
Overpriced. Charging $119. Pole Creek is cheaper and a much better golf course.
Fairways were not in the best condition. Thin and a brownish tint.
When you stand on the 1st tee, you’re just not sure where to hit your tee shot. Poor design.
Hole 3 is the same. Not sure where to hit your tee shot.
So many blind shots. It seemed every time you looked at the GPS, it said this hole has a blind spot.
Holes 10, 11 & 12 are some of worst designed holes you will encounter. Even a GPS system does little for you.
The driving range is small and too close to hole 9. Range balls all over the 9th fairway and I almost got hit.
We saw the cart girl on hole 4 and had not seen her in a while. We finally saw her near the 14th tee. She was off the course serving drinks to people in a condo subdivision!
WILDLIFE:
Colorado ground squirrels everywhere in the rough. They look like small prairie dogs. So many holes, you have to be careful not to sprain an ankle. We actually think one of my balls was lost in one of their holes.
Tough back 9
Great course and staff. A great deal of blind shots on the back 9 along with lengthy par 3s. Definitely a challenging course with spectacular views. Definitely a great deal on Golf Now.
Awesome Course - Friendly Staff
This course is a must play. A short and scenic 90 minute drive from Denver.
Challenging and Fun!
Nice course, well kept, and deceptively open.
Nice staff and bit off the beaten trail, we stayed in Vail. Well worth the drive and time! Do it!
Amazing Course, You MUST Try It!
I loved the course so much! It had challenges, but was very playable for someone of my skill level (12 hcp). The conditions were excellent, and the weather was perfect. The staff inside the clubhouse could have been a little more friendly, but everyone else was awesome. Two people inside the clubhouse felt the need to remind my friend that he needed a collared shirt, AS HE WAS WEARING ONE! This would not have been a problem if they had done so in a polite and friendly manner.
