Grand Elk Golf Course
About
Nestled within the Colorado Rockies, Grand Elk Golf Club in Granby, Colo. offers stunning mountain views from every hole. The course has a links-layout inspired by the inland golf courses of the British Isles. The low-lying vegetation and gently rolling terrain lend a heathland feel to the course. The fairways are wide and undulating and the large greens have ample contours as well. The layout has an interesting mix of holes with some that are straightforward and others that twist into tricky doglegs, but nearly all are flanked with sod-faced bunkers. There are more than 60 bunkers coming into play throughout Grand Elk Golf Club, and water hazards come into play on four holes. Besides just being a fun and challenging round, the magnificent views that stretch across the snow-capped peaks of the Continental Divide are not to be missed.

Surprisingly strange layout, but still worth playing
Played this course with my dad and another solo golfer. We ended up playing 3 of the tees: Solo guy played the tips and was clearly a scratch golfer, I played the blues (5-6 handicap) and my dad played the greens (senior golfer, 15-17 handicap). From the back 2 tee boxes there are several blind (or mostly obscured) tee shots. Not a problem if you trust your driver or have a trusty 3 wood for distance control. 3 long par 3's on the front. Pay attention to the course map to figure out where hazards are, and distances to bunkers. Many bunkers are in the middle of the fairway, at typical driver distance (starting with #1). Greens are soft and hold well but have mixed speeds from hole to hole so it's hard to get a feel for pace.
Friendly staff and easy check in process.
Nice range to warm up on. Did not see a practice green but there may be one there.
GPS on carts in helpful.
Somewhat inconsistent sand in bunkers, be sure to test it with your feet as you take a stance, many were fairly packed and a little wet, so not much hope of sliding under the ball.
Got a good price through GolfNow at ~$65, and was happy with it at that price.
Very nice grass on tee boxes and fairways.
It's clear they are taking COVID protocols seriously: check-in window so going inside is optional, some sort of ball retrieval mechanism on each flagstick; restroom doors permanently open with new partitians, thorough spray down and rinse of carts after each round is finished. Free bottles of water and ice for cooler included with the round.
You might need a caddy . . .
Great course, but playing it for the first time is very tough. Several blind tee shots and forced carries makes it even more difficult for the shorter hitters. Knowing the wind direction also is important as the direction of play is greatly influenced by the weather. Would definitely play again. Greens sometimes were a bit rough, but that's a mountain course for you.
Very friendly staff and service.
Great staff, poor value & pace of play
With a serious family emergency going on, I was looking for a bit of relaxing golf. The course is difficult due to the extreme OB areas just off of the fairways. You must be very accurate and know your distances. The greens were in pretty rough shape. All of that could be overcome but the pace of play finally got me. My group stopped to get food at the turn, took our time for sure and still had a three group backup on the 10th tee box. It took over 30 minutes to get those groups through and finish the 10th hole. The 11th wasn't much faster. Thank goodness for the GPS on the carts so you know where the group in front of you is. After the 11th hole, I was way too frustrated waiting and ended up leaving the course. I did not finish the back 9 as I simply could not sit and wait 20 minutes to tee off. Even if I did finish the back 9, nearly $100 for the condition and pace of play was a terrible value. If not for the friendliness of the staff, this would have been a total loss. I'd like to try again one day but with many other courses nearby, I doubt I will. It's too bad as the scenery is pretty.
Great course, Better Value
First time playing this course and has a great time. The staff was excellent and the course was in good shape considering it's October in the mountains during a drought. The greens were running fast, the ground was beginning to firm up, but still good conditions.
The layout is very fun, challenging but not so hard that you don't enjoy your time. I love links style courses and this is one of the better links courses I've played. The value cannot be beat.
Better Conditions
Played Grand Elk for second time this season, and conditions much better. Greens are in great shape, with fairways very firm. Staff always great!
Great day great course! First time playing and I will definitely be playing this course again real soon! Great experience!
Great Layout!!
Cool links layout in mountains. Friendly staff, will definitely go back
Great Value Course
Greens were a little rough from the winter but give them a couple weeks and they should be great!!
Good Golf
Could not be more pleased other than my score, loll, thank you!
Staff and Overall enjoyment at Grand Elk
We always enjoy being at Grand Elk. Whether it is Happy Hour, Dinner or playing golf, the staff is always so friendly and ready to help us. We have a place at Mountainside and we lots rather spend time at Grand Elk and play their course. Although that back 9 is very challenging,
The guy in the Pro Shop and young kid with the carts were extremely nice on Monday. It is just nice to go someplace and have people pleasant and ready to help anyway they can.
Last time we had dinner at Grand Elk, Head Pro Mike Ritter came by our table and chatted for a while. I have worked with him a few times in the past setting up a golf group to play at Grand Elk and he was the easiest Head Pro I have ever worked with for tournaments. No, I do not know Mike personally so this is really a unbiased review.
Excellent course
I was able to book a tee time that was not crowded so was able to play a fast game. Course was somewhat challenging but not overly so. I really enjoyed the electronic device on the golf cart, was fun to use and really helped my game. Was able to play twice and enjoyed both times.
Great Course
Grand Elk is a good challenge. Beautiful scenery and it is a fair test of golf. Great staff,. Hightly Recommended. I'm a 2 and play the tips but you can move up and enjoy from any tee box.
Great course
Loved this course! Challenging but fair. The only complaint is finding your ball in the long grass is nearly impossible.
Will definitely play again
