Tierra Del Wind
As the only eighteen-hole course in Aruba and after hearing great reviews from other vacationers, I knew I had to play this track. One thing everyone told me was expect to “club up” two or three clubs when hitting in to the wind. This was a valuable tip as Aruba consistently has a 20 to 30 mph wind.
I arrived at Tierra Del Sol which is part of high-end resort with all the amenities you could wish for. I checked in at the club house and was ready to go. Once outside, the bagboy loaded my bag into the cart and directed me to the starter. The cart had a GPS with score keeping which was a nice feature. The starter then directed me to the range and stated he would come get me when I was up. The range here was on a hill facing the Caribbean Ocean and was facing into the wind. Here I learned exactly what to expect when hitting in to the strong wind. A short time later I was up. I grabbed a Bloody Mary from the snack shack before I headed out and was less than impressed. The Bloody Mary was made of a generic mix, a dash of Tabasco and vodka. It was OK but I would not order it again.
The first tee box was elevated and I was hitting downhill with a strong wind behind me. This was excellent as I hit my longest drive of the year by about 20 yards. Several holes were downwind making it extremely challenging when determining the right club to hit. Going in to the wind was also a major challenge as it was in fact necessary to club up 2 or 3 clubs. These challenges were a constant throughout the round, but course designer Robert Trent Jones II did an excellent job designing Tierra Del Sol with the wind in mind, making very playable.
The fairways at Tierra Del Sol were open and very well maintained, as well as the rough and bunkers. There greens here were very soft, almost sponge like. On a few occasions my ball was 2/3rds plugged after hitting a hybrid in to it. Well placed approach shots often stuck as the greens were very receptive.
The views at Tierra Del Sol were spectacular. On the way out, several holes offered views of the California Lighthouse. Views of the spectacular Caribbean ocean and wind surfers also made it hard to concentrate while playing, especially mixed in with the desert layout. Playing an ocean and desert course at the same time is quite the experience. There was also some wildlife on the course including a herd of Billy Goats that came in to play on more than one occasion.
All in all, Tierra Del Sol is a must play if you’re in Aruba. Lots of elevation changes, lots of views, lots of wind on a very playable course and lots of fun. As Tierra Del Sol says, “Where can you play Scotland, Scottsdale and the Caribbean all at the same time!
Fun layout, average conditions, still worth golfing
We really enjoyed our 2 rounds at Tierra Del Sol. It was a really nice layout, pretty views, and how could you have a bad time, you’re in Aruba! The course demanded different types of shots, most holes were unique, and the constant wind requires the golfer to think. The staff was pleasant and the cold towel after the round was nice.
However, Aruba is a desert… this was the only place on the entire island we saw green grass, so the conditions were not resort-caliber. The greens were more like manicured fairways, bunkers were not sandy (more like waste bunkers), and the tee boxes needed redoing.
I am a 9-10 handicap and played the whites (because the rest of my family wanted to). It was fairly easy from these tees (81,82 in my rounds), but I’m sure the blues would have been more challenging.
For $125-$150 a round, it’s a bit steep. But if you’re a golf addict in Aruba, this is the only course available and you should play.
They’re redoing the whole course in 2024, so I’m excited to see the changes.
A bunch of issues
I've played this course over a dozen times over the years, and bring my own shoes and balls usually just rent clubs.
We had a very early tee-time (7:39).
They had Titleist rental clubs and after about 3 swings at the practice range the rental club snapped in half at the grip and cut my index finger with a deep gash and i was bleeding.
I went back to the pro shop that was NOT FRIENDLY. AFTER about 5 minutes of blank looks they gave me a band-aid and a replacement club.
Also, at the halfway house, they didn't have anything prepared. They could make me something but that would have slowed the pace of play. So we passed. Many of the Tee-boxes were burnt out, and greens were not fast for a PGA level course.
Not for your average resort golfer
There’s not a lot of golf on Aruba, this is the only 18 hole course. The conditions would be considered really bad if you are use to playing at high-end resorts. What it lacks in modern turf quality, it makes up for in the overall uniqueness, course, layout, and enjoyment. Would I want to play this track all the time? No. Do I highly recommend it for the avid golfer looking for new and unique golf experiences? Yes.

Paradise golf
The views are stunning, of course the wind blew very hard but that is to be expected. The pace of play was great! I felt that the course could be in a little better shape. The staff were great and very friendly. I'll definitely be back.
Course has excellent features
Course has great features it’s very challenging.staff is really friendly.
Terrible course
Tierra Del Sol is the only 18 hole golf course on Aruba. The only other course on the island is The Links at Divi, which is only 9 holes.
I’ve been coming to Aruba for 20+ years and I have played Tierra Del Sol every time I’ve been here.
The course gets worse every year. It’s as if the owners of the course know that they have the only 18 hole course available and don’t need to maintain it for that reason.
From tee to green, the course is in terrible shape.
The tees have very little grass.
Fairways are indistinguishable from the rough with some fairways not even mowed.
Bunkers have hard packed sand and weeds.
Every green had large patches of dead grass.
I don’t look to be catered to at any golf course but at this one, no one even greeted me at the bag drop area or offered to take my bag and put it on the cart.
Honestly, the only reason I play this course every year, is because I can’t spend every day on the beach doing nothing.
If your looking to play golf while on vacation, Aruba is not the place to go and Tierra Del Sol is not the place to play.
Conditions
Great layout from Robert Trent Jones. I have come every 3-4 years since Tierra Adel Sol opened. This was the worse condition I’ve seen. I’m guessing the heat and humidity is tough to handle. And the course may not be getting enough play to justify the chemicals and water needed.
Wishing they could get it back to conditions of 20 years ago.
Needs some TLC
The greens and tee boxes, especially the tee boxes need work. There is either unmowed grass or no grass on the majority of the tee boxes. The greens roll ok, there are some rough areas they avoid using for the holes.
Where is the lawn mower
The fairways are in good condition
The greens are spotty
The tee boxes are in terrible condition, either they are not mowed or there is no grass to be mowed.
Range balls also need to be updated.
Could have been in better condition
I enjoy playing Tierra del Sol.
Pace of play was great.
The tee boxes were in pretty bad shape, the greens were a little worn in many spots but they did roll surprisingly well.
The GolfNow Hot Deal rate made it well worth the price.
AS GOOD AS ADVERTISED
Awesome course!!!! Layout was great. Totally different than anything I’ve played before. Desert type course. I was told the trade winds make the course really difficult. I lucked out. Barely any wind the entire round!!! Which led me to score my best rd EVER!!!!! Being little wind the humidity was high. Course was HOT!!!! Plenty of water on course and a cold towel waiting for us when we finished. Nice touch.
Course has dry areas but greens fairways t boxes were fine. It never rains in Aruba so the course does the best it can. Cant hold that against them.
Staff was so friendly and helpful to everything we needed for a great round.
Played mid August. COURSE IS EMPTY!!!!
Was told by staff it gets packed during winter months.
Our 1st time. Played next day. Totally exhausted Played like crap. Will stagger days for our next trip!!!
CANT WAIT TO COME BACK!!!!!
Terra De Sol
Have been playing this course for many years. Green are not as pristine as in past years. Beautiful scenery, lots of wind, difficult course. Must play in the morn early, too hot in the afternoon.
Tere de sol
Have been playing this course for 20+ years. Usually lots of wind and very challenging. Back nine is more difficult. Suggest going out as early as possible. Course can get very, very hot. Great course.
The course is very interesting to play with the scenery and the views. it is certainly challenging with wind but itt was a fun time. Obviously the heat has taken its toll on the course but the overall experience was great.
Just hit it!
Always love to play here. It is so unique.
Get your confidence up on the first 3 holes, cause after that it is ON! You'll get humbled by your perfectly struck 175-200 drives into the wind. Practice your stinger at the range and don't skip the putting green before the round. Make sure to stop and take in the awesome views!!!
Don't book too early, as the Hot Deals don't show until a few/couple days in advance. Good luck and have fun.
Don’t waste your time
Driving range is like hitting into a cow pasture. The practice balls are found water balls or balls found in weeds - I’m embarrassed for this course. Every tee box was terrible. Almost every fairway was terrible. Course could be fabulous with watering and attention. 15 out 18 greens are sparse with grass. I will not play course again.
