The Hirsel Golf Club
About
Hirsel Golf Club, founded in 1948, appeals to all levels of golfers. The historic and picturesque golf course was referred to in one magazine as "The Augusta of the North."
Hirsel, a parkland golf course nestled on the Scottish border on the outskirts of Coldstream, offers great natural beauty and breathtaking views over the Cheviot Hills and surrounding countryside. It features 18 very different holes strategically designed to make the most of the undulations of the hills and valleys and the natural hazards presented by a very large number of majestic, mature trees and the winding Leet River.
The golf course measures 6,024 yards. Par is 70 for men and 72 for women, with both par 5s in the last seven holes.

Beautiful countryside
The course was superb , greens fast and true and the scenery fantastic. I would tell anyone coming to the borders to play golf that they must play at The Hirsal
Dissapointed
Winter greens in operation front 9 and the back 9 greens unplayable due to heavy sanding. I appreciate that this is the risk playing in Sept but would have hoped for some advanced notice to then make an informed decision on travelling to play.
I'm sure it may be nice in the summer months but not worth the drive down unfortunately.
Very disappointing 😟
First course for a lads golfing weekend & had heard good things about the course.
I checked a few weeks before that it would be proper tee boxes as there was something on the booking details that said winter mats. When I called the club they almost laughed and said no it will be normal tees & proper golf.
When we arrived we were informed that the greens had been hollow tuned & treated, but it would still be proper greens. I notice the last was on a winter green. I went into the shop & asked how many would be winter greens & the guy said one or two.
The first 11 holes were all winter greens & so we’re 15 & 18.
The winter greens were pathetic. The whole episode spoilt the start of our trip.
Not the “hidden Scottish Borders gem” we hoped for 🤨
My only critisisim would be that the greens weren't in the best condition. Other than that it was a good challenge, the back 9 more than the front 9.good condition good layout
Beautiful little Gem of a course
Course was in fabulous condition beautiful and green with some lovely holes. Would definitely recommend to anyone who just enjoys playing golf.
Everyone was very friendly and there is a lovely balcony to sit out and have a well earned drink after your round.
Borders Beauty
Sunday midday, and a nice and quiet course. We could play the whole round at our own pace.
It's a rich, beautiful estate. The golf is sort-of-American, with springy, not tight fairways, and long, sticky semi-rough. This was really the only bother, as you could easily take time looking for a ball just off the fairway. Greens were good. the course is not too long off the yellows, but the second half has one or two long drags if you're getting tired! Definitely worth a trip.
Good course
It’s a nice course. Front 9 more interesting than the back 9 even though a bit criss crossing greens a bit slow but ok. Fairways in good condition. The rough brutal Only drawback was very slow as we were behind a coach load of guys so took us 4 30 hours
Was not great.
Fantastic, will definitely be back.
Chose this course at random for travel distance between friends, couldn’t be happier with the choice. Fantastic layout, very good condition, lots of challenging holes and excellent value. We are already planning on returning.
A lovely course
My wife and I had a wonderful afternoon of golf here. The staff were very friendly and it felt like we had the place to ourselves, would definitely recommend!
One of the best in Borders
The condition of the course and especially the greens for this time of year, let alone the weather conditions recently, is truly excellent compared to a lot of courses in the area.
The staff in the pro shop and all the members were warm and welcoming and it wasn't too busy either.
This place is a bargain for what you get for your money.
The only downside was not having the local knowledge on the number of blind shots, which could've shaved a few shots.
I'm a 7 handicap and shot 7 over playing average/decent so not a particularly hard, nor particularly easy. You need to be quite straight down the middle at a number of tree lined tee shots.
I really enjoyed it and will definitely be back soon.
A Gem
A pity i didn’t live closer , only the 2nd time playing this course as it’s over 100 mile round trip. But it’s well worth the effort , a great course, and in great shape too . Planning another trip in the summer.
Hidden treasure
Myself and my son were looking for a course to play in the Borders area whilst on holiday in the area. We searched Golfnow and stumbled across Hirsel GC and we were glad we did. Tidy and challenging course with something for everyone. A bit of work going on but considering most courses are still using winter tees and greens, Hirsel was pretty much fully open. The odd carpet tee and some greens were very damp, but this did not spoil our round. Would be happy if this was our home course. Hope to play again when the weather improves.
Great day out
Course in very good condition considering recent heavy rainfall over last few days. Varied layout and only one temporary green on. Assistant pro and bar staff couldn't have been more helpful and friendly.
Overall, really enjoyed the day and will be back again in the summer

Hidden gem, good value, great food.
Will be back.
Tricky Course
Lovely course in great condition with very tricky greens.
