The conditions have really declined
Rolling hills golf course conditions have really declined. The sand traps are not raked
and unkept with weeds and grass growing in them. The tee boxes are down to dirt and need to be replaced. Used to be kept up like a resort course and now it looks more like a Muni. Not worth paying $65 for a round.
Too good to be True
The Hot Deal price offered on GolfNow seemed too good to be true and it was.
It was a good deal to be sure but when we arrived at the clubhouse to check in, we were informed that the back 9 was closed and the front 9 greens had been punched and sanded! What a disappointment. We played the front 9 twice and enjoyed the course (condition and layout), but just wish that GolfNow would have alerted us of the aerifying of the greens.....
Something has changed?
We’ve played this course 2-3 times a year and since the first of 2023 something has changed….we were told “new management”. Traps were filled with weeds on numerous holes. Sprinkler heads on green collars were covered in mounds of grass not trimmed. Large bare spots in greens as large as 4x5 feet in areas. I could go on. Then we attempted to have lunch after, before our two hour drive home. None of us wanted to finish it. Stale bread no fries do to fryer being down at 1 pm, and an $80 bill. Sufficed to say this place is now crossed off the list. We won’t go back…. Buyer beware!
Pleasant Surprise
Really enjoyed playing this course.Very spread out among quiet fields. Makes a very enjoyable relaxing setting. The course did not have much water in play but the sand traps add a need to be accurate. The greens were in good condition except for 2 that had some winter damage around the edge.
Rude starter staff
The starter was rude to us again. I don't know why the course keeps this guy working. He comes over and barks at us "who's cart is this!" when we were waiting for him to greet us.
There was no Marshall moving groups along and there was 4 groups on the 10th tee box. We decided to play the front nine again that was empty. It took three phone calls from the starter to get an ok from the pro shop.
I like the course, but be ready for a harse greeting by the starter.
Fall golf is great at Rolling Hills
After a long hot summer, we did not have high expectations for our round. The local munis have been showing the effects of weeks of 100+ degree temperatures (dry/bare fairways and greens) so we did not expect conditions to be any different here. Boy, were we surprised! Green fairways, fluffy rough, receptive greens , and smooth putting surfaces were there to make for a very pleasurable day. The cart-guy brought out our rides before we were even unloaded. Nice practice facilities to loosen up before the round too. All in all, this was a great way/place to finish off the golfing season before winter!
Great course
Had a blast at The Links. Great conditions and a super fun layout. Course was in near perfect condition (just a little wet in spots). Staff was friendly and pace of play wasn't bad at all. Will definitely be back soon.
Under the radar
I’m halfway hesitant to leave this review because I kinda prefer Rolling Hills to remain a “secret.” I drive from Chico at least once a week to play it. It’s head and shoulders better than any course in a 100 mile radius of it. It’s challenging, well-designed and nicely maintained. I don’t always agree with their pin placement but overall they do a great job of keeping the course fresh and fun to play. Can’t beat the price for this quality of a course. Similar courses are $75-90. Rolling hills is an under appreciated gem.
Accurate shots need it
My first time playing this course, the guy at the desk was super friendly and helpful , the green are little slower and small, course knowledge is important the golf course is native area all around if you hit your shot in the death grass you have to take a relief without penalty stroke which makes it easier to score, if you're not used to play in wind conditions it can be though, overall good experience.
Great Value
Other than the starter who can be quite moody this is always a great experience and value!
