Since opening in 1987, McCormick Woods Golf Club has garnered titles including "Best Course" and "Most Enjoyable Course" by Golf Digest and Golfweek. It is one of only 10 courses in the state of Washington that are Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuaries. The stunning layout features natural lakes hidden among beautiful fir and cedar trees. Don't let the scenery distract you though, it's one of the most difficult golf courses in the area. There are significant elevation changes throughout and you'll have to face the occasional blind shot. Though the golf course is challenging, there are five sets of tees so players of all skill levels can play to their abilities. McCormick Woods Golf Club also has a practice facility with a driving range, two putting greens, and an area devoted to chipping, pitching, and bunker play.

Great course

The day we played was very wet so our play was slower. I thought the sides of the fairways had heavier tall grass than usual, but the fairways were good. The tee boxes were in great shape and the greens were well maintained. We always enjoy playing at this course. The deer were plentiful today.

Well designed course.

Course was in very good condition, but the greens had just been sanded. Still consider this course to be one of the most enjoyable and challe
nging courses in Washington state to play. Variety of tee markers makes it interesting from any set you play. You don't have too much room for error: fair and demanding.

Exceptional golf!

I was skeptical after some negative reviews...until I played this course! First, I disagree with all the complaints about the course. The conditions were as good as it gets, better than any course other than Trophy Lake. The layout is challenging, but more than fair as I played from the blue tees. I love that fact that this is a thinking golfer's course and you must have a strategy to score well. You cannot just hit driver without consequences. The elevation changes kept it interesting and more than fair-I would walk this course any day. The shapes of the greens are unique and the roll is better/smoother than most courses. The fairways are mowed tight, exceptional drainage, and simply a pleasure to hit from. I did not see any wet spots or ruts from tracks. What may be lacking are fewer bunkers than I would like to see. House are not an issue as they are very far from the fairways. I never felt intimidated by the presence of houses here. This course is so peaceful with herons flying around. In conclusion, after playing here for the first times, I left in total amazement. The brisk and relaxed pace of play made the round so tension free. I left wondering why I never played McCormick Woods before! This is my new favorite course across Narrows in terms of a top tier course at low tier fee! If you are a better player, you will love this course. I played with 2 3-woods in my bag and shot 85 from the blue tees...I left a lot of shots out there because I did not have local course knowledge and went after some tee shots I normally would not have.

Fun, challenging course near Port Orchard

10/19/2013 This course is in really great shape considering the time of year. The superintendent's strategy to aggressively aerate the greens in the spring time has allowed McCormick woods to keep their greens true this fall. I nabbed a $21 hot deal for a round with power cart. We finally caught the group in front of us on the 17th hole, which made for a round in under 11 minutes per hole. If you've never played this course it's worth a shot compared to Gold Mountain or Trophy Lake. It's not as well maintained as, and McCormick's layout is not quite as appealing as GM or TL, but it's a good course for the money. Note for all the golfers who enjoy to walk and golf, there's an average of 130 yards between tee and green. I took one star off my rating for the driving range and overall practice facility. The blue tees offer a very challenging layout, while the white and green offer a unique contest for all golfers. I would also like to complement this course for offering an actual set of junior teeboxes (about half the black yardage) so bring the fam or someone who wants to learn the game. Driving accuracy is important, as this course mingles closely with a housing development throughout. You might want to throw in an extra sleeve of balls! There's danger lurking in the form of H2O...

Peaceful with lot of nature.

Deer hoof prints on the greens was a little amusing. Couple of the dog leg holes were like 90° angles. I'll be bavk!

If you get a deal its worth it....if not...

For what the normal fee is, I don't think this course is worth it. Given courses within an hour of here the value just isn't there. My expectations were much higher, perhaps a good winter and some attention to fairway and immediate rough would lend me to think higher of it, but just not in as good of shape.

Great Course

Enjoyed the course. I liked the elevation changes throughout the course and how every hole brought something new. If you're into a beautiful wooded course, this is the one for you. Lots of wildlife along the way as well.

Many better local courses

The course has an okay layout but does not drain well on a number of holes. Come August shots in the middle of several fairways will bounce laterally into the salal that is ever-present. The greens have seen poor maintenance recently and I refuse to play the course given that Gold Mountain(2 courses), Trophy Lake, White Horse, and Port Ludlow are not far away. Cannot recommend the course.
The Clubhouse (the restaurant) is a favorite place to eat - we often golf elsewhere and drive to have our post-round meal. Great food, great staff, and well worth the extra miles to get there.

Needs some TLC

This is the first time we have played McCormick Woods since RMG took over the management of the course. We've played this course for the past 15 years and this is the worse condition we have seen it in! This is not what I would expect from a RMG golf course.

Beautiful, challenging course!

McCormick Woods is beautiful and challenging. The fairways play long and tight, and no fairway borders another fairway, so this course will make you a better golfer. The beauty of the course is both natural (cut out of a hilly forrest, deer wandering through) and due to impeccable maintenance (it really is pristine). Even when I'm having a bad golf day on the course the scenery at McCormick is so amazing that I always have a great time.

Needs a lot of work

The greens were uneven and muddy also Full of divots that had been there for days or weeks, large piles of dead wood all over and the edges of the fairways had muddy ridges and tractor tracks making it impossible to have a good shot and you came out of these areas with your shoes full of mud
Hopefully Spring will change all of this, it used to be a great course
