Discovery Bay Golf Club
About
Opened in 1925, Discovery Bay Golf Club, formerly known as Chevy Chase Port Townsend Golf Course, has the distinction of being the oldest public golf course in Washington. Besides its long history, it has also garnered acclaim as one of the best golf courses on the Olympic Peninsula. Situated on the shores of Discovery Bay, the layout enjoys panoramic mountain views spanning the Olympic and Cascade mountain ranges. There is more to the course than scenery though. The classic design is challenging enough to appeal to low handicappers while still being accessible for beginners. The course's back nine is more challenging than the front, featuring challenging elevation changes and some tricky lies. Be sure to bring your camera for the breathtaking view on Discovery Bay Golf Club's 10th tee.

The Old and the New
This course is really a combination of old and new holes of golf.
The old (9) hole Chevy Chase course was redesigned
several years ago when a new (9) was added to the
course on the western hillside.
The course can be challenging the first time you play it. Several of the Par 5's can be reached in (2) strokes. The greens fairly easy to read helping set up birdie puts.
The weather is generally favorable, but prevailing
on-shore / off-shore winds can be a factor at times.
Cart not included any longer,
The course could no longer provide carts, at times exceeding 20% of the carts were going to golf now customers. This course was great with a cart included, but to try and walk this course is a bear The back nine is elevated 10th tee box, with long hike back to clubhouse from 18 green..The course is trying to make a better deal with golf now. Still no progress been made going on 4 months. Walking rate only.
Hidden gem
Back nine made it all worth it ! Course totally changes after the turn when you go way up in the hills. Super fun !
Friendly staff and the course was nearly empty so it was very UN rushed.challenging from the blues. Only downside was there was no breakfast available there . lunch only.
This course is alot of fun and has a great range of different types of holes
We always have fun here, even when it is a bit wet, we live in Wa. so were used to rain and wet. I play this course more than any other.
We had a great time on our few days away
Lost more golf balls then ever and stunk up the course but we had a great time on our few days away from home. No one was on the course I guess because there was rain in the forecast but not a drop fell.
Fun regardless of the condition
Due to heavy rains prior to our play, the fairways were very wet which made play a bit more challenging. Greens were drier and tended to be moderately fast.
This is an outstanding course for both the novice and experienced player with some of the most beautiful scenery in the Northwest.
Playing In The Mud
The course should not have been open for play. At least 2" of water covered the fairways ... Probably won't play again until the grounds get in better shape.
We played only 5 holes before we gave up. The cart we were given was a piece of junk- wouldn't start so we left it out on the course. We did complain but it didn't do any good .
Randy is the coolest
Randy was one of the most approachable, knowledge filled, friendly golf employees I have ever come across out of all of the golf course I've played. After 5 minutes with talking with randy having never playing this course Before, felt like I knew everything I needed to know. The golf course was also in great shape for being the middle of February in Washington state. The differences from the front nine to the back nine makes it feel like you are playing two different style courses for the orice of 1. I would recommend this golf course to anyone who is an experienced golfer who is looking for a fun day trip out in the islands. And I will be returning.
Thanks again Randy
Your golf course is awesome.
The people that work there are excellent. They are very friendly & helpful. I have been there about 6 times, its a bit soggy in the winter but where isn't it soggy this time of year around here ? I would highly recommend this course. Thanks to Golfnow I can afford to drive 1 hour there & still get a better deal than the course that is 6 minutes from my house. I will be there this weekend, rain or shine.
Challenging from blues
I enjoyed the setting of the course.. you are out in the woods with no houses. I'm an 8 handicap and the blue tees were a real challenge. At least 5 of the party 4's played over 400 yards. The greens were nice and held the ball well but were slower than my home course. I walked 18 and the front was easy....the back will give you a little more of a workout with some pretty steep hills. The overall course condition was good and pace of play was awesome. I played in just over 3 hours. I'll come back and try it again and will hopefully do better now that I know where to place some of my drives. I also saw a lot of deer out there which was cool. The Pro there was really nice and let me tee off early.
Good value
Wish I had discovered Discovery Bay years ago. Nice layout, course in good condition especially the greens and some great deals on Golf Now. Give it a try.
FUN AND QUICK
Is a basic layout in playable shape but what you'd you expect from a rural course. Price was great with GolfNow. Enjoyed everything although the ride in the cart was pretty rough.
Did not honor purchase
We purchased two individual golf certificates from GolfNow. Each purchase stated that the purchase was for 18 holes and a golf cart included. The staff stated that you purchase a seat and not a cart. Even if there were four different golfer, they would be made to ride together even if they didn't want to. It messed the hole game up for me and my wife. Wasted money and an hour drive to get there.
Recommendation: have a clause in the course description that state that you are purchasing a seat and not a cart.
Birthday golf
Went to this course with my best friend celebrating my 73rd birthday, which is Tuesday. Had a great time and enjoyed the course, weather and companionship. Thanks, Pastor Bill.
Rainshadow golf
Arrived and it was raining. Looked at the radar, saw a break coming, waited 15 minutes, rain stopped and held off til we walked off 17. Had a great time. Greens were nice, no puddles, played well. Really fun and very green. We will return..
Awesome Hidden Gem
This is a great course nestled away in Discovery Bay. We love playing this course and the staff is so nice! The course was in great condition and it's a great price for a round.
Tons of fun
The course plays short (very short) but tons of fun. It's a great place to increase confidence and just plan have fun. Nice restaurant appealing menu short driving range 150 yards.
