Willows Run Golf Club in Redmond offers four courses: two championship 18-hole links courses, a family-friendly par 3, and an 18-hole putting course. There is something for every golfer at Willows Run no matter what skill level. Coyote Creek is one of the championship courses. The par-72 layout is 6,344 yards from the back tees. The golf course has a classic links design that is mostly straightforward but you can still expect some challenges, especially with water coming into play on nearly every hole. There are a few strategically placed bunkers as well as some rough. You'll also face the occasional dogleg. With the terrain being mostly flat, the terrain is easily walkable. The course is approachable for beginners but the nine-hole, par-3 and the putting courses are also good options for new players.

Not a Good Summer Course

I've played this course in the Fall before and it's great when it's getting watered, but during the head of summer there seems to be issues with drainage and there are lots of dry spots in the fairway and on the greens that really take away from the beauty of the course. A couple of times I hit decent approach shots onto the green but rolled onto a huge patch of dried brown green that was more like the seaweed wrap for sushi than grass ... goodbye birdie!

Especially at $51 regular rate / $31 twilight rate, this isn't a good value for the money. There are a lot of other good courses that are able to maintain their playing surfaces much better with the summer heat than this one.

Used to be great

I play this course often, for years. I dont know what happened to willows run, but its not what it used to be. Last year it was great all summer. The greens were the best they had ever been. I realize they dont have much water for irrigation, but the place is just not maintained.. Its really sad they have let it go. Maybe its not the same owners or management. Not the friendliest place either.

No bang for a lot of bucks.

I generally don't review a course I played if it was OK and up to par (pardon the pun) but this course was not worth the money and we paid a discounted rate! Full price is absolutely not worth it! I live in Kitsap County and the money we paid gets you Gold Mountain, Olympic course any time you want to play it! The layout isn't too bad but the fairways were atrocious and I've never seen more clover and weeds and general unevenness on a course that costs so much. I've played the course before, years ago and I don't remember it being as bad. Bottom line, poor course for a lot of cash!

not bad for the heat

The course was obviously hurting from the heat . That being said it was still playable. The greens were not that bad and the pace was 4 hrs .

Need drinking water on the course

This is a very nice course, but it was a very hot day and the only water available was at the 11th tee. When it's hot, it's difficult to carry enough water to stay hydrated for 18 holes.

course was in bad condition. So many dry and wet spot around green.

I played this course many - many times. But first time year. Course is really in bad shape. Many areas around green had very wet or very dry spots. Two four some from Man's club were playing in front of us. They were very slow, 3 hours for 9 holes. We have to give up after 9 holes. No marshal came in and talk to them besides this they have more then 5 holes empty in front. Pro shop were also very slow to deal with customers.

Good course to walk but over priced!

Eagle Talon is the better of the two courses. Plays long but stay in the fairway. Greens are well kept. Easy walkable course and flat. This course gets pretty busy and can play slow at times. Definitely over priced and should be cheaper. Playing earlier is best, because from 8-1 all the oldies will be on the course taking their sweet time like they own the course.

Good if you are in the fairway

This course was good especially for the money. However, there are several areas that need more attention. First there were several areas where water had pooled and it looked like all that needed to be done was clear a drain. Second, the rough was way too high. When looking for our ball, of you were not right no top of it you were not going to find it. I expect to get punished when hitting it in the rough but this was excessive. There was also a lot of clumped grass clippings in the rough. Maybe it had been too wet and they just did a quick cut but it didn't seem that way. It just looked sloppy. Finally the tee boxes on the back nine had several uneven areas. Meaning it was hard to find a spot that you were not above, below, or one foot was higher than the other when approaching the ball. The staff was friendly and I was asked several times if I needed anything or had any questions when near the club house.

Over priced

My total rate with cart after tax was about 59.00 dollars which is way too much for a 1130 tee time in the middle of the week for the condition the course was in. Course was muddy and had standing water. The rate should have been closer to 39.00 dollars out the door with cart. This isn't newcastle or Echo Falls.

Fun course to play, but still winter golf

The course was in good condition overall. The greens were better than I expected. It's still winter golf and it's still very wet. It is a busy course, but the pace of play was still outstanding.

Course ,needs a lot of work and lots of grass seed.

I played this quiet a few times. The course was in bad condition bare dirt mud ,no grass and we have had great weather! This has been a great winter course, they tarp the greens and used to keep it in great shape. The marshall talked to us at the turn and told us it was realy backed up, three hours later we finished. They didn't even have the ball washers out and we have had record sun and temps all winter.

Patience Required

Played this course on a sunny Saturday afternoon. The pace on the front 9 was horrible. Good thing they had $2 PBR tallboys to pass the time. Course conditions is what you'd expect after a dry spell in March. Lots of areas with thin or no grass but not one ball plugged the whole day. Green were a bit bumpy but not terrible.

Surprisingly Good Conditions

The course was in decent shape for Winter time. In past years, I have seen this course in terrible shape, even after a week of great weather. I was happy to see the freshly cut rough and decent greens as they cover them each night.

Management is getting better.

Soggy, muddy, and pointless

I have played hundreds of golf courses. And I have played most of them in the rainy, wet, green, Pacific Northwest. I am forgiving and understanding when it comes to sub par conditions, but not conditions like this. I played the coyote creek course. It was barely called a course. The fairways and second cut seemed unmowed, everything was mud/standing water. Standing water in the sand traps, and the greens we bumpy, uneven, no ball marks replaced, and spongy. The conditions were unbelievably poor.

LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION, best part about this course

I've played out here since they opened. I play it a dozen+ times a year. It is my default course.

ON THE POSITIVE SIDE:

* You can virtually always get on, that is what happens when you have 36 HOLES. This and LOCATION are Willows two biggest draws hands down.

*The membership rates are ok, nothing special but certainly better than rack rate.

*I have a par three tournament with my Rotary Group there every year and they are very good, very accomodative.

*They tarp the greens in the winter so there is no frost delay, really a good idea.

*There are no houses on the course

*This course is sucessful as there are not a lot of alternatives

*Though it still can be a bit wet in the Winter/Spring, they improved the drainage a few years ago, which was very helpful. They don't have to close down holes anymore.

*It is better than Bellevue Muni, Wayne and Echo Falls three of it's four closest competitors.

*The food is good.

*The deck overlooks the putting green and first tees, outstanding place to eat or have a post round libation in the summer.

*Willows does a good job of managing tee time splits prior to twilight. They are far enough a part that you are not necessarily destined for the automatic 5 hour plus round you experience in places like Bellevue Muni, Kayak and Snohomish.

*This is anecdotal, but it seems that Willows is getting less tournament play, which is a huge positive as it opens up a lot of tee times that had been previously blocked out. This is great for last minute walk-ons. This is the single biggest area of improvement for the average golfer that I have seen at Willows since they opened up the second 18 holes.

AREAS THAT NEED IMPROVEMENT:

*They need to reduce the prime time rack rate, I have a member card so no big deal but I would hesitate to pay rack rate for this course, there are better alternatives.

*The pace of play is all over the place, you can play it under 4 hours (once, I played it in 3:20 on foot) or it can be slow, I played a 5 hour and 20 minute round this summer. Usually a normal round is about 4:30 to 4:45. Generally it takes 15 to 30 minutes longer than what they tell you it will be when you pay.

*Starting this summer, cart girls were a hit or miss, even on a hot sunny weekend, sometimes they show up just fine, other times you go all afternoon, no cart girl.

*The bunkers need sand. Once it rains a little more, some of them will be close to being hard pan. If you don't want to put sand in the bunkers perhaps they should be grassed in.

*The greens are in marginal shape, they are quite lumpy and don't hold a line well.

*The Marshalls are superflous, rarely rude but rarely effective. Either they are not there to move people around when it slows down or once this year they bugged us to move faster when we were already on pace for a relatively rare sub four hour round with no one pushing from behind.

* When they get to Twilight, they throw people out on the course as fast as they can, as a result the pace of play suffers as the course is jammed. Also, once twighlight starts, when you could really use a Marshall so that you could get in a few more holes, the Marshalls vanish.

*Often, except in the summer, they will close one of the courses down early to mid afternoon for no apparent reason, funnelling everyone on to the other course instead of spreading us out on both courses which could really speed up play and save everyone 30 to 45 minutes and make it so everyone could play in under 4 hours.

*I like to go out after my round and hit a few balls to straighten out my game,
however, I can't always, as too often the range is closed as early as 3:30 on a summer weekend a good 5+ hours before sunset.

*They have perfectly good grass tees on the driving range, however, it is only open once a week on Wednesday. The only time it is open on the weekends is when they are trying to sell something during a DEMO day. So we have to hit off of mats, quite frustrating. Years ago, I remember we used to be able to hit off the grass tees as long as it wasn't raining, it worked great.

*I usually walk, but will ride depending on who I play with. Willows goes to cart path only unnecessarily quickly. When Willows is on cart path only and I am playing with friends who like to ride, more often than you would think, we are able to find a course that does not have that onerous restriction. I find their stance on this a bit disingenous for a course that in past advertising promotions has billed itself as the "drier" winter time golfing alternative.

*I think Willows is owned by the same people that own Druids Glen. We get out to Druids a few times a year. The experience at Druids is head and shoulders above the experience at Willows in virtually every respect. It seems like the owners would be miles ahead if they ran Willows like they run Druids. But then because of Willows location and having 36 holes maybe they don't really thnik they need to.
