Good hole variety

No 'generic' holes on this course. Nearly every hole has its own character. A good challenge for most golfers ...not long, but lots of elevation changes. If you struggle with uneven lies ... downhill, uphill, sidehill ...you could have a rough round here. Walked the course on a very nice 70 degree day ... would be a tough walk on a hot day. In addition to the layout, positives include good driving range, good fairway/greens conditions. Less favorable was pace of play, lack of beverage cart, difficulty making tee time ... 48 hrs in advance, no online option, had to call a dozen times to get through a 7:30AM in order to get a good tee time.

Will definitely make an effort to play here once or twice a year.

Such a fun track

I play this course a couple times a week as it's close to my house. The range is great as they have some of the best range balls for a public course.

The course is always in great shape. The layout can challenge even the good golfers. The greens are in perfect shape and are rolling on the faster side for a public course. The staff are super friendly.

The front is short even from the back tees. The elevation changes and all the bunkers make up for the lack of length on the front side. The back 9 is a whole other beast. Can get very tight at times with some big hills and a dog leg that is a real challenge. The course favors the guy who hits it right as it allows for a lot more error. If the Miss is left, well you could end up in trouble more often than not.

The 19th hole (Martel's ) has great food

Still at Tour level condition

Play here once a year while back home visiting. It's still in Symmetra Tour shape. Greens were extremely smooth, with very subtle breaks. Rolling moderately fast. Perfectly groomed fairways without a trace of weeds, though rough can get gnarly. The variety of the holes makes it a unique challenge every tee. Pace of play could be improved, very popular course and they are tempted to jam groups too close together. Grass range !!!

Avoid

Although they changed the name a few years ago, it is still the "same old, same old."
Old as in ancient marshalls who pay no attention to pace of play.
Front 9 is ridiculously short, and although the back 9 has some nice holes, it took forever to get there. NOT WORTH IT.

This course is challenging and fun.

I'm a high handicap golfer (30) so this course which hosts an LPGA event each year is challenging for me. There are a lot of sand traps around the greens which is a little bit of an issue for those of us who are usually around the greens and not on them with the approach shot. They also do not allow beer on the course. Other than those two items, the course is great. Even though it's located in the Capital City (Albany) the scenery is quite beautiful. I would recommend this course to anyone. All levels of golfers will enjoy it.

Fall Golf

I have played here before in the past and still find it an extremely fun but challenging course to play. But now that I played it in early fall the scenery was amazing!

Reasonable Shape in Fall

Considering that virtually every golfer in the Capital Region has played the course this season the course is still in reasonable shape at the start of fall. It was in pristine shape mid-summer but a less-than-average rainfall dried up most area courses. Drainage on course could be improved but all-in-all a good golf round to be had at CapHills.

Great course. Well maintained and in a quiet setting.

Great course. It is located on the outskirts of Albany, which makes it easy to get to but it is in a quiet area. The course can be a bit of a challenge from the back tees but it's fair. The greens are smooth and well manicured, and the bunkers have soft white sand. Overall the course is really well maintained. I like every hole, but my favorites are the drive-able 5th, the par5 8th that I can get to in two, and the 13th which is a steep downhill par3 that is tough to judge the yardage especially on a windy day. An added bonus is the driving range on real grass, and the putting green is pretty good too. The staff are nice and
there is a restaurant on-site if you want great food. The proshop is stocked with a good selection of balls in 3-ball packs and gloves incase you forget something at home.

HOSE ARE SOME BIG HILLS

I never knew that Albany had so many hills but the elevation changes here are remarkable. The course is relatively short playing only 5784 yards from the whites and just over 6300 yards from the tips. It is great shape and actually plays host to a Symetra Tour event. Had the shortest Par 5 I have ever played at 416 yards and it was pretty straight. Birdie Hole! Also included a downhill 270 yard par 4. Driveable? Fun course and there was a lot of deep rough so even though it was short, it was a challenge.
