10 more days to enjoy this course
With the closure looming, some maintenance is lacking, but what would you expect. I played on a Thursday, and the holes appeared to have been in the same position since the past weekend.
On top of that, the rough hadn't been mown in some time, and was quite penal, but you shouldn't be in the rough.
If you get the chance, play the course before it closes for good at the end of September.
It was fun course to play
This course is going to be torn out and the land turned into footings for warehouses. The city of sumner has no idea of what the feelings of the golfers in the area are about this closing. It has been used by local schools as a golf class for years but now all they can see in dollar signs in the sale. So long to a wonderful course.
Better than the reviews I read
When looking at the reviews beforehand, and talking to a friend with experience there, I was not looking for a particularly good/fun experience.
I was pleasantly surprised by the friendly staff and the course was in good shape for a Sub $20 round.
The negative, the slowest round i've played all year, tournaments included. There was a 1 or 2 group back-up on every hole throughout the day and a 5.5 hour round is a bit excessive.
For the price - A good value, provided you have the time.
different tees for all level of players
I really enjoy playing sumner meadows. I sure hate to see them close the course at the end of September. I will be playing it again before they close.
golf course over watered...
Ok course, but in my opinion the course was way over watered....
Better than I've heard.
Clubhouse (term used lightly) staff, could use a huge upgrade. The starter was friendly and helpful. If you can keep the ball pretty much down the middle, it is a fairly fun course. If not, you will lose a lot of balls and have a lot less fun. Pace of play can back up if you get behind many of the later. Course condition is usually pretty good. Nice grass range is a huge plus - not many of those around anymore.
Very challenging and stingy golf course when it comes to pars & birdies
Fantastic golf course, lacks scenic character but packed with exciting challenges that make you want to come back in the hope to conquer the course!
Great challenge and price point
This course is more challanging then it looks. It needs some work
but is price appropreately
Bring more balls!
dont let the lack of trees fool you into thinking that this is an easy course. one miss on the fair way can and your ball is in some deep thick rough, a bad miss results in pasture or water. The course is an easy walk, pretty flat overall. What I like most is that there are no houses nearby so you dont have to worry about taking out a window if you shank a show. Prices are good and the course is well maintained. If your just starting out this course has wide fairways and is overall pretty straight forward
Good Value
The course has a good layout and is a decent challenge. We got a good weekend rate and played in 4 hours. The course was easy to get to and we'll be going back.
Play it once in awhile
70 Degree weather.. awesome
Playing with your buddies.. awesome
20-30 mph winds howling in your ears for 18 holes.. not so awesome.
Decent links layout
Have played Sumner many times over the years, but is a horrible winter track. The course is extremely wet with standing water everywhere, casual water in every stance with nowhere to go to get away from it. Better have good golf shoes as you will walk through water the entire round...
Fun course, requires good planning.
I would recommend the course to anyone looking for a good value. The walking rate is very reasonable and as with most courses this time of year probably better to walk than run back and forth to the cart when play is "cart path only".
Plan your shots carefully as there are many places where your ball can end up unplayable as opposed to being able to just pitch back out to the fairway. Actually played very dry after a couple days of light to no rain. You'll have fun--give it a try.
Great rates.
I always enjoy playing at this course. The only downside is during evining play there are quite a few groups just taking their time. Sometimes makes it difficult to finish all 18. But for the price thats ok.
JUST OK
This course is maintained nicely and is challenging but it is boring to the eye as there are very few trees and is void of elevation changes, etc...
Enjoyable Local Course
Sumners Meadows tends to wet conditions in the winter and plays drier in the summer. Staff is friendly. The pace of play is one of the worst in the area. Most of the course is adequately maintained and watered.
Great course great value
This is a fun course, challenging enough for a scratch player to enjoy and no so hard to make a 20+ handicap hate the game. The staff here are incredible. And they have a grass driving range, a practice putting green that isn't totally flat, and a chipping range. And I've never been on this course without a beverage cart coming by at least 4 times.
