Anstruther Golf Club has a prime shorefront location with stunning views that stretch past Anstruther Harbor to the Isle of May. The club dates back to 1890, successfully surviving two wars. It began as a seven-hole golf course but throughout the years has expanded into a challenging nine-hole layout. The demanding fifth hole, also known as the 'Rockies,' is touted as being on of the toughest par 3s in the UK. This difficult risk-reward hole will definitely make or break your score. It begins with a shot from an elevated tee to a small fairway that is guarded by steep gorse to the right and a bank of rough to the left. Most golfers walk away happy with a bogey. The challenges don't stop at the fifth hole, though, it is only the first in a trio of holes that is considered Anstruther G.C.'s own version of Amen Corner.

Small course but challenging

I played this course with my son and we enjoyed a pre-Match lunch in the rockies restaurant at the clubhouse. Very enjoyable.
The 1st tee is blind and you are facing an uphill placement not long - except in the wind it become twice as long, in fact the whole course becomes challenging with the wind. And it was very windy when we played. Really enjoyed this course the 2nd par 3 looks easy but again with the wind?
3rd and 4th are reasonable drives and short irons but the 5th is a par 3 with elevated tee and a view to die for the water edge and narrow fairway amazing hole - it’s called the rockies.
The following hole is another par 3 and tricky with the wind hey links golf.
My fav hole is the 7tha 200 + yard par 3 with a block cliff face in front of the green. You need to drive it into the top of the cliff in order to spin the ball onto the green. The 8th and 9th are long drives both par 4s and not really remarkable.
This course as stated is not long, without the windy conditions not sure it would offer the same challenge but nevertheless good fun.

panoramic views

I played this lovely 9 hole course in true "Old Tom Morris" style, with my 7 hickory golf clubs. Most of the course is played on a cliff top situated between the picturesque towns of Anstruther and Pittenweem. The panoramic views out over the Firth of Forth and the North Sea are outstanding. The course is very well maintained, with wide fairways, forgiving semi rough and excellent greens. Keep the ball reasonably straight and you should score well. You're on your own though on the famous par 3 (5th hole) "Rockies" Good Luck!
