Glenrothes Golf Club
About
Glenrothes Golf Club in Fife offers a challenging 18-hole golf course in a parkland setting. Built in 1967, it's a par-71, 6,406-yard course that occupies a prominent position on the high ground west of Glenrothes. The views from the course are memorable, with tree-lined fairways and glimpses of the Lomond Hills to the north and the Firth of Forth and the Lothians to the south.
The golf course itself is challenging, particularly the back nine, which features a burn that crosses four fairways. Long hitters will enjoy the wide fairways, while those with a good short game will appreciate Glenrothes Golf Club's well-maintained greens.
The course features four par 3s and three par 5s. And while the front nine features the two most extreme holes - No. 3, named "Wester Gales," a 149-yard par 3, and No. 7, Lomond Loan, a 564-yard monstrous par 5 - it's the aforementioned back nine that really taxes. The hole names alone should scare the average golfer - from No. 11, Satan's Gateway, to No. 18, Hell's End, Glenrothes sounds more like a haunted amusement park than a golf course.
There is amusement to be had, of course, and not just on the greens. Glenrothes Golf Club boasts several after-round options, including the Main Lounge, which is the heart of the clubhouse. It's a spacious room with a tasteful decor and comfortable seating. It even has its own dance floor and pool table. There's also a small lounge, which seats 20, and a bar, open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily (until midnight on Friday and Saturday). Full catering services are available in the clubhouse.

Glenrothes open
Played Glenrothes open, £17 entry very good value for money.
Course in very good condition, not issues with fairways and rough cut to a fair length.
Greens smooth but not the fastest, however very tree.
Front night is fairly flat with the back nine slightly more undulating. Front nine is well tree lined on most holes and more open on the backnight.
Would play again.
Outstanding conditions for time of year
Considering the weather Fife has endured recently, courses around the area have really suffered !!!
However, Glenrothes was a real surprise to see only 4 temp greens on which was really refreshing considering a past wet few weeks. The greens were in superb nick and also very true . Fairways were naturally damp and wet under foot but nothing unplayable .
Loved the course layout and really interesting few holes once you’ve crossed the road .
100% will return; looking forward to seeing how it plays in the summer
What a course
Must be the best value for money golf around. Course is challenging especially in the breeze in great condition with great greens that keep you guessing! Cannot fault the set up at all and for under £15 got to be the best bargain around.
A welcoming course
Really good course for players new/returning to the game or looking to build confidence.
Excellent value
Last min booking as had free afternoon the mags cheap hot time made it stick out so jumped on it .
Wasn’t expecting much due to cost and it being council course rather than private but boy was I WRONG. As a single player (and dog) I was ushered tho 2 diff groups rather than being held up by members 👍.
Greens were fast and rolled perfectly even tho a couple had bare patches and fairways were in excellent condition will be returning with mates and recommend it .
As had dog with me I never used the club house .
Good value for money
There are some lovely holes and some forgettable ones. Greens were a little bobbly. Good round for £20 all in all.
Cracking course
Lovely course, First 9 holes typical parklands course, The back 9 opens up with spectacular views and a few more slopes to contend with. The course was in good condition although the wind played its part on our round.
Staff were very friendly and helpful.
Cracking course for very little money.
Matured Nicely
Played Glenrothes for the first time since 1981 as my playing partner Rob Laird said “the trees have grown”. The course has matured into a lovely and very enjoyable 18 holes. Very friendly staff in the shop. Unfortunately the club house is closed for food on a Monday and Wednesday so cannot comment.
Nice Course, But Very Hilly
Nice course, wide fairways and very fair. Some par 4 felt like par 5 . The back 9 though is very hilly so just a word of warning.
Great course in great condition. Best council run course we have played by a country mile. Happy days
Glenrothes Golf Course -A Little Gem
We were pleasantly surprised by this little gem and were stunned post playing to discover that it was a public course. We were welcomed by the professional who was exceptionally helpful and informative. We found the course in good condition although the greens were quite slow. The course was both interesting and demanding and we found the second nine spectacular in terms of views and and exacting in terms of course management bearing in mind the water hazards/ditches.
The only crisis she would be a lack of sign posting going from greens to the next tees. I played off the gold tee when using the silver tees on the on the 4th and were non-plussed crossing the road after the 10th despite the professional advising us.
Glenrothes golf course
Very nice course and a very challenging course on the back nine well worth a round
