Glenrothes Golf Club
About
Glenrothes Golf Club in Fife offers a challenging 18-hole golf course in a parkland setting. Built in 1967, it's a par-71, 6,406-yard course that occupies a prominent position on the high ground west of Glenrothes. The views from the course are memorable, with tree-lined fairways and glimpses of the Lomond Hills to the north and the Firth of Forth and the Lothians to the south.
The golf course itself is challenging, particularly the back nine, which features a burn that crosses four fairways. Long hitters will enjoy the wide fairways, while those with a good short game will appreciate Glenrothes Golf Club's well-maintained greens.
The course features four par 3s and three par 5s. And while the front nine features the two most extreme holes - No. 3, named "Wester Gales," a 149-yard par 3, and No. 7, Lomond Loan, a 564-yard monstrous par 5 - it's the aforementioned back nine that really taxes. The hole names alone should scare the average golfer - from No. 11, Satan's Gateway, to No. 18, Hell's End, Glenrothes sounds more like a haunted amusement park than a golf course.
There is amusement to be had, of course, and not just on the greens. Glenrothes Golf Club boasts several after-round options, including the Main Lounge, which is the heart of the clubhouse. It's a spacious room with a tasteful decor and comfortable seating. It even has its own dance floor and pool table. There's also a small lounge, which seats 20, and a bar, open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily (until midnight on Friday and Saturday). Full catering services are available in the clubhouse.

GLenrothes
Very good welcome from the young pro.
Course interesting and testing layout, would like to play again in the summer.
Staff in clubhouse all friendly and food good.
Enjoyable round
Played with my wife having booked just the night before. When arriving early the pro allowed us an earlier start. Push trolleys were £5 each and boy did we need them. The course has a lot of sloping fairways or uphill or downhill and uphill but still allowed a good pace. Tees and greens are in excellent condition as are the fairways. We found the course very enjoyable and wished the restaurant owner wasn't on holiday because the Spanish themed menu is appealing. Loved it when the small airplane looped multiple times in front as we teed off on 11th and the parachutist hollering yahoos from above. All in all, a great time was had.
HILLS are alive with dogs!
Dogs everywhere and back nine more suitable for climbing than golfing
Glenrothes golf course
First time playing Glenrothes. Lovely course well maintained. Some tricky holes made a bit more of a challenge by the wind and rain!!
Clubhouse facilities adequate. Unfortunately closed by the time we had finished our round.
Amazing quality council course
Played here yesterday, The staff were nice and friendly. Course was in fantastic condition. It was actually really busy when we played and throughout the 18 holes we had very little hold up with people in front of us.
Only learned yesterday this course is ran by the council, The standard the course is kept too is of a high quality, I'd recommend for anyone to come here and play. Just a heads up holes 11, 12 & 18 are challenging on the body due to the steepness of the hills.
Mr
The fairways are absolutely beautiful, the course with its slopes and dog turns makes it very exciting
Course is in excellent condition and the staff were very friendly. Demanding challenge on a fantastic course. Thank you.
The staff were really helpful and welcoming
Course was in good condition, green not fast but reasonably consistent
Cracking course.
1st time playing this course. Cracking course some tough and testing holes. Greens were really challenging. Definitely be playing again.
Great course for nice price
This was the first time we had played this course. After all the rain over the last few weeks in Scotland we were a bit worried that the course might not be in good condition but it was excellent.
The pro was really friendly and helpful - he made us feel really welcome (and I bought a secondhand driver from him!). He was happy to discuss the course and future developments.
The course was quiet when we started but did get busier behind us. However, we were never held up and completed 18 holes in just over 3 hours. The course is challenging - definitely 2 different nines with the first nine being tree-lined and narrow in places and the back nine being much hillier but more open. I liked the contrast a lot and had picked this course because it wasn’t flat and boring!
The only let-down was that there was no food provided on Wednesdays but we found a good burger van (The Munch Box) on the next door industrial estate that borders the 17th green. He did great bacon rolls but does close at 2.30pm.
Overall, a great day out for the price!
Great course
Lovely wee gem of a course. Took us a while to get a grip of playing fast greens!
Looked good
Turned up for 11:15am tee time , spoke to the pro in the starters office/shop about starting etc. Nothing mentioned except just play after the group on tee . As we went round every green was winter greens / a flag stuck in the middle of a fairway. No mention this was the case before we started . Took the fun out of our round and if notified on the morning when th club opened we would of probably rescheduled to play the full course
