Kirkcaldy Golf Course in Fife, Scotland, is an attractive, 18-hole parkland course that features a traditional Scottish burn that meanders by five holes throughout the course. Founded in 1904, Kirkcaldy is known locally as Balwearie and is spread over 150 acres of Fife countryside,

The challenges start early on Kirkcaldy Golf Course. The burn comes into play on No. 1, a 330-yard par 4. Hit over it on your drive and make sure you're not too big on the approach, as you will be left with a downhill chip out of the rough.

Kirkcaldy's version of "Amen Corner" starts at No. 6, a 345-yard par 4. Don't hit it to the center with your drive because you will end up on the right hand side. Hit to the front part of the right green. No. 7 is a 130-yard par 3 and the club's signature hole. Don't miss the green right, because the burn running alongside the hole is out of bounds. Amen ends at No. 8, a 329-yard par 4. It's the shortest par 4 on the course, but you have to deal with more burn and out of bounds on the right side.

Finish strong on No. 17, a 518-yard par 5. This is a "should I or shouldn't I?" hole as you contemplate crossing the burn in two from the top of the hill.

Kirkcaldy Golf Club is open to visitors and features a pro shop and a clubhouse that serves food and has social events like jazz concerts and performances by local bands.

Great day

A friendly welcome from the pro shop and the bar staff. A great course with some very clever holes. Not hugely long and accuracy is the key.
We played 5 weeks after the greens were cored and they had come back, and were running very true. Would certainly return again (3 of the 4 hadnt played it before). For £16 we had a great day!!

Enjoyable in the rain!

We couldn't have picked a worse morning to go out in the rain but the course held up and drainage was good. We almost had the course to ourselves due to weather but what a good course and would go back when weather is better to get full experience of course. Suitable for all abilities and were made to feel welcome. Par 5's easy to score well on and par 3s are all a good challenge. Recommend to any standard of golfer and extremely good value to money

Front 9 has some tight fairways and is fairly hilly. Back 9 opens up a bit more and is easier going. Good variety of holes.

Good course

Nice course in good condition although greens were quite slow if I’m being picky. Managed to get round in under three hours which was nice for a change.

Kirkcaldy Golf Course

Was surprised at how quiet the course was given the weather.

Given the terrain of the course would not recommend it to anyone who is unfit or has mobility difficulties as some of the hills can be a nightmare.

Overall an excellent day out on a well maintained course, will certainly be back

Nice course we'll presented but not for the unfit. A considerable amount of greens with difficult angles. The greens however are good condition and fast which makes for problems for the faint hearted putter. Would be improved by direction markers for the first timers.

No On-Course Restrooms/Toilets

When I arrived after not playing for a year, I was told the portable toilets previously located between the 9th and 10th holes had been removed. So unfortunately, I had nothing to drink during my entire round and felt rushed throughout my game. While I love this challenging course, I can’t recommend Kirkcaldy to my lady golf pals because the club has decided not to invest in these facilities.

Very good course

I always play Kirkcaldy when returning to Scotland from Canada on holiday. This is a very challenging walking course as some holes you play have quite severe inclines and paths between some holes are quite steep. You will enjoy the variety of lengths of holes and contours of fairways. The greens yesterday were “very fast” and the had recently been punched and sanded and some of the pin positions, I’m sure, were the result of the superintendent having a a bit of a tiff with his wife that morning. Joking aside nice course, friendly staff and “members” that were in the restaurant welcomed us. The food was excellent, great day.
