St. Michaels Golf Club
About
St. Michael's Golf Club sits atop Gallow Hill, providing spectacular views past the River Eden to the historic buildings of St. Andrews. The course sprawls across a prehistoric settlement that is protected by Historic Scotland. The terrain is an interesting mix of wooded parkland and undulating heathland with a well-draining sandy base. The golf course features small greens and narrow fairways that place a premium on accuracy. While it may not have the prestige or the classic links layout of St. Andrews, St. Michael's Golf Club offers just as formidable a test. The challenges begin immediately on the first hole, an uphill par 4 with a fairway that slopes right to left. St. Michael's signature hole is the par-3 15th, which many consider to be the most demanding short hole in Fife. There is a large dip to the left and rear of the green, a bunker to the front right, and out-of-bounds to the left and on the railway line behind.

Upon arrival we went to check in and the staff member was very blunt and unwelcoming. This was our first time and we’re looking forward to it after reading reviews.
Our review is fairly honest. We wouldn’t return in a hurry. The front 9 holes were all elevated and hadn’t been watered (understandable) they were very quick and tricky to read or stop the ball within 80-100 yards. Members we’re rude and don’t have etiquette of stopping and allowing you to take your shot. Tee boxes are well used and no sign of repair on any par 3 tee box and some par 4s.
Back nine was slightly better and the par 3 15th is a great hole. The new bunker is unreal and really gives this hole character. After reading the sign at the 17th tee, saying if a ball leaves the course boundaries we are reliable. What happens if you accidentally draw or hook a driver out of bounds and hits a train or car on the main road which is no more than 15 yards from the tee box on the left. Then green is 5 yards right to the railway and very easily reached with a good driver. (270 yards). I think this is nonsense as an amateur golfer has no control over a bad shot. The club should have insurance to protect the player and not the player having to fork out. As member of a high profile course we have insurance to cover us hitting a caravan or member of the public if a bad shot occurs and damages.
Overall quite disappointed that the members have no etiquette and the golf club puts you under pressure on the last 3 holes to keep right of the railway and main road. Won’t be back in a hurry and generally wouldn’t recommend to anyone. If in the area I would be playing Drumoig for £10 more than this course.
Must play course.
My first visit to this area and I had played the St Andrew's Jubilee course on Monday 29 May, which was an amazing experience. I played St. Michael's with my son and son in law on the following Thursday and we had a great time. The course was in great condition and it is beautifully laid out. By all means spend your life savings on the expensive links courses if you wish, but don't leave the area without enjoying this bargain gem of a parkland course. All credit to the Leuchars St. Michael's golf club. Thank you for a great experience and a wonderful memory.
A gem of a course.
Greens in great condition as are fairways. Great views over the Eden estuary towards St Andrews. Well worth a visit. Great value for money
Excellent course
I played this course last year and forgot how good it is, well layed and every hole is so different.
It's not a course that you are going to lose a lot of balls at the same time it's still tricky with beautiful views and friendly clubhouse.
It has to be the best value course I have played.
Good course, well kept
Nice course, easy to navigate good fairways however, the rough is unforgiving a good course
Good value
Good value for money course' and always a friendly welcome.
Good value
Good value for money. Only downfall is lack of driving range to warm up. Very nice staff. Good variety in design of holes.
St Michaels Leuchars
Returned to play this course now for a second time during the Scottish Winter months. Enjoyed my round, no fairway mats, full greens. Course in good condition for this time of year. Good challenging pars 3.
What I also enjoyed about off the course is the warm welcome in the wee Clubhouse where they have a log burner. Chap behind the bar very welcoming. Home made soup excellent. Perfect combination for post round game. Highly recommended.
Great Value and Very Welcoming
Having driven passes this club many times I finally decided it was time to give it a go. We were looking for a course that wasn’t too long, playing with the ladies, also was good value. St. Michael’s didn’t disappoint.
We picked a tough day as it was blowing a gale, even the locals commented on how hard it was playing.
The course was in great condition. Some of the views were wonderful. We even saw a red squirrel at the 15th tee!
Being a train nut I enjoyed the last 4 holes along the railway.
We had a light lunch before our round. The staff couldn’t be more accommodating.
Go and have an enjoyable round.
Excellent value & surprising back 9.
Myself and my girlfriend okayed this course at the start of the September weekend, with an afternoon tee off I expected it to be quite busy however the pace of play was excellent. The front nine is laid out very well and offers a varied challenge with the lucky dip par 3 proving the most difficult. The back nine however is where this course shines, St. Mick’s corner and the holes each end of that are truly excellent. The whole course was in great condition and the food in the clubhouse was also superb. I wish we were more local to enjoy it more often. Thanks!
Great course and brilliant value
This course is a bargain at the price, well looked after and very friendly staff in the clubhouse and in the course. Played
It last year and it’s even better this year. Well worth playing.
Nice course in good condition
Played a two ball in three hours. Course was in good condition, greens were excellent, especially on back nine.
Staff and members were welcoming, and the green fee was excellent value.
We will be back to play a second round and hopefully improve our scores!
